Is there any hope for gas prices?

It seems like gas jumps on an almost hourly basis now days. An article I found in USA Today claims that they have reached their peak and will soon start to come back down somewhat. Of course the article also mentions that most gas stations are only making about 3 cents per gallon profit, so it is likely that they will leave the prices up for a while to regain some of their lost profits. Do you think that the price of gas and diesel will come down enough to actually help, or is that just a fairy tale??

I don't know where you are, but here in Ohio, it already is $4 a gallon, I have even seen it up to $4.17. I heard by August, we should expect it to be $6 per gallon. Nice that that government cares about us and how we are all barely making it.

I also believe that it is just a fairy tale. As far as actual gas prices, they are already over $4 a gallon here in Texas as well. It would be nice if they would come back down at least a little bit, but I don't expect them to.
My husband and I drive a truck for a living (we own our own truck). We have been on vacation for about a month now, but when we came home mid-April, it was costing us around $650 to $750 each time we filled our truck up with diesel fuel - and this usually happens at least twice a day when we are running. If it were not for the fuel surcharge we would not make it.

well, im here in Connecticut, and i was watching the news, at this time gas is at $4.17/gal and its rediculous. i can hardly afford to drive recklasly anymore. which stinks becasue driving is my getaway from my problems, but i was watching the news and they said that gas prices could get up to $5.00/gal and stay there for the next couple years. its rediculous if you ask me.

I completely agree with you. There has to be something that can be done to resolve this serious problem. Not only is it making it hard for people to go to and from work and school, but it is also making the cost of living and food rise drastically because of the fuel required to deliver the goods. There has to be a solution!

I wish I knew where all of this was going to end! It's really getting to the point where people are going in the hole going back and forth to work! The closest gas station to my house was $3.88 as of last night, but it probably went up since then. I remember back in the seventies when there was "wild talk" that gas was going to go up to a dollar a gallon! When I first started driving it was about $0.30 per gallon, can you believe that? When my friends and I needed gas to go "cruising" we'd all chip in change until we got enough to get a dollar's worth of gas and that lasted for about week...lol!

No I do not believe the prices will come down as long as people are determined to pay whatever it is for gas. I heard Bill O'riely say last night we need to start finding other ways of where we need to go like car pooling to pay the bills the first of the month, or do not buy gas on Monday, put a dent in their pockets, he said just everyone not buying gas on one day of the week would set them back, and would show them we are not going to continue to pay the high prices and will find other ways to get around. Some are buying bikes here and riding them to work, more are making car pools, I think it is us that has to put a stop to the buying and only us that can help put a stop to this. One woman interviewed on ev the other night said she was going to the mall no matter what the cost of gas was, when you have people with thinking like that how can we get anywhere, I though to myself what is at the mall that is so important that I would pay $4.00 a gallon to get there, she said she goes all the time and no one is going to stop her if they raise it to $10. she did not look like she was that rich to be making those kinds of statements, and I'm sure from the looks of the car she had better places she could use the money she saved, but people are going to go no matter what, it makes it real hard on the ones trying to do something to cut the cost.

You are right, as long as people keep thinking that way we will not be able to do anything about it. If we could get everyone (or at least most everyone) to carpool or like you mentioned not buy gas on one day of the week, we might actually be able to get their attention and do some good; the trouble is too many people will buy the gas anyway!

I think that gas is going to keep going up. It is going up everyday just about. I have been listening to the news and it has been a hot topic. It will keep going up and there is nothing that the people can do about it. Why cause they know drivers need gas and they will pay what ever price that is set to get from a to b.

Well, there is ethanol, and bio-diesel but currently there really is no good way to produce enough to replace the petroleum based fuels. It cuts into farm lands that are used for food crops, and also cuts into things like corn that are used for food and grain. There has to be some sort of workable alternative, though!

I think the prices will come down when there's new people in Washington in January.

Hi there. Here in New Zealand we're paying $2.10 per litre. By august this price may have rised to $2.50 - $3.00 per litre. In Brisbane, Australia I had word that they're paying $1.40 per litre. Who knows wether or not gas prices will ever drop. Have a great day anyway...

Sheesh, anything that people are counting on, they always have to hike up prices. Not only gas but other things like ciggarettes too! I was watching the news the other day too and I heard something disturbing about the whole reasoning behind our gas prices and why they are so high. It's all because someone said they would be! If that's not the stupidist reason then I don't know what is? I would like to know who said that and see how they are dealing with the hike in prices now!
By this summer our gas prices are suppose to go up to $2.00 a litre. Most places here now it's $130.00

Hi Mehale
where in Texas are you? I'm in San marcos between Austin and SA and its at $3.89.
Seems everyday it goes higher and sometimes an hour later it will jump again.
I have to get some gas tomorrow and know from that post awhile back that its best to go in the mornings when the pumps are expanded.
Keep on walking...LOL

Here in Oklahoma, the diesel prices are already over 4.00 a gallon and the regular unleaded isn't far behind, the cheapest in our town is 3.69, but it probably won't last for long, it'll go up again. I'm glad we don't have any vehicles that take diesel, at one time it was cheaper, and we almost bought a diesel truck, we would of been sorry if we did....have a good day

I was in journalism and in my business economics class this semester we learned that the predicted gas price for the summer would be 1.12...we all know its much higher now! I guess people are just going to have to find other ways to get where they have to go. I prefer public transit. It saves me tons of money and is great for the environment!

It's been $4.07 for a while here in central Illinois. We don't have a choice but to pay it. We live in the country and my husband commutes 1/2 hour each way. No mass transit here. I believe it's going to keep going up.
Now that the kids are out of school, we are staying home all day, every day. We make a trip to town once a week for groceries and other necessities. We just can't afford to drive the van much.

Boy do I know that feeling! We don't buy gas more than once every couple of weeks when we are home - we try not to use the truck unless it is absolutely necessary! On the other hand, we drive a truck for a living and the cost of diesel fuel each time we have to fill up - which is usually at least twice a day - is enough to bring you to tears. We spend on average $750 to $850 per tank depending on how low the truck is on fuel. If it were not for the generous fuel surcharge that we receive, we would not be able to make it for long!
