I was looking at this program on Tv. they were talking about dogs, dogs are so smart, dogs can alert you when something is wrong? They sense when something is wrong, like if there Master is sick or Dyes. Tell us some of your experiences with your Dog, I never owed one but I had a Job where I had to take care of the handicapped young man, and he had a dog that would help him, that dog was so smart. What kind of Dog do you like? or what kind of Dog do you have? Share this with us. Have a good Night or Day!

I had no idea there was that many different breeds of dogs. I have to agree, dogs are far more intuitive than we think they are! The dog I have right now is a German Shepherd. She's almost 7 now. When I went through my cancer ordeal she never left my side, only to go out and to eat. She knew I was feeling crummy from all the surgeries, chemo and all and would lie right next to me. Even to this day, if I'm not feeling well, she will come and stay right by where I'm sitting or lying down...and she's not normally like that. I think they're far more in tune to our feelings than we think they are.
Another thing she did surprised me and made me wonder if it was instinct. My daughter got a little puppy, I was afraid that it might not get along with this huge shepherd. The puppy was only as big as the shepherds head lol. Anyways, my shepherd chases the cats away from it's bowl, and when my other daughter brings her dogs, she gets downright nasty with the 'keep away from my bowl' thing. This little puppy just kept hopping up on the shepherd while she was eating and I thought that she would growl or something, you know, giving a warning? Anyways, the shepherd had had enough of this thing hopping all over her while she was trying to eat. (She has one of those tall bowls that are in a stand off the floor) She looks at the puppy, sticks her head into the bowl, grabs a mouthful and places it on the floor...and the puppy starts eating and leaving her alone. Animals sure surprise us sometimes lol. It's like she knew it was a baby and she had to treat it different. I thought that was pretty smart for a dog to think out.

It's amazing to think of how many breeds and cross breeds there are of mans best friend. I own Cocker Spaniels, and have for over 15 years now. I bred my female, Libby twice, and kept one of her puppies from the second liter. We had to have her put down due to old age around Thanksgiving. It was heartbreaking. I also owned her father, so I've owned three generations in her line.
She was amazing. She had a sense of illness and pain like no other. She even saved my life once, when I passed out due to high blood presure. She kept going to my son and whimpering, then going back to the bathroom, until he came to check on me. He brought me too, and probably saved my life. She was always very protective when one of us, in the family was sick as well. She played with rocks instead of balls, and could pick the same rock thrown out of a pile of rocks. It's hard to write about her, kind of breaks my heart that she isn't here anymore.
I think that dogs overall are the smartest of small animals. I look at the "Dogs for the Deaf", Dogs that lead the blind, and police and rescue dogs just to name a few.
God bless Man's Best Friend
If you want to see pictures of Libby, you can visit my myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/creativedreamweaver
I also have a tribute to Libby on my Myspace blog.
Great topic.

Ok, I will take a look, Yes, Dogs are really smart, the one dog that I took care of alone with the Handicapped young man, you will see him and the dog at www.chatsdog.com that dog was so smart, he knew 42 commands. He could even turn on the Light switch open a door, he would take his nose and push the button. The Boys name was Chad, and the dogs name was? I can't remember, and it is right on the tip of my tongue.

Hi Marcia-I have 2 bearded collie crosses they are very affectionate and loving, loyal etc..as I am epileptic when I don't feel well or haven't been well they are around me as if to protect me and they sense when I'm sad down or happy etc-one of them is very sensitive to spirit and I know that I have a few in my house very harmless but chips-my dog-always barks when he senses them or sees them-sometimes he'll bark at someone on the stairs and I know there is someone up there as living on my own I have actually heard them walking up and down in one of my bedrooms when I have been on my own-even my neighbor who lives on his own has heard the same so am not just hearing things-your friend littleowl

I didn't know that dogs can sense sprits, that is weird. I can even sense sprits. I guess dogs and people can sense it, but I can't. Thanks for you input.

Hi Marcia-dogs are that more sensitive to spirits than humans! Humans have to be open to receiving sprit and sensing them but dogs and cats have a sixth sense that is quite natural for them to see and know when they are around-often one of my dogs-chips-will just bark up the stairs where there-to the human eye-seems to be as if no-one else is there but my daughter can see them and when she has been round she has said that there is a man on the stairs so obviously thats who chips sees-also he will often just bark at the door with his sister and when I open the door there is no-one there! That and the the corner in the of my front room-it may seem weird but animals have a sixth sense that although us humans have not all of us use it-your friend littleowl

That's so many. We have a Maltese dog before and sometimes we bring him in a vet. Of course they do have posters of dogs there in their office but I only see a hundred most probably. They look so cute with different looks and color, they're very playful to at.
I think one reason why dogs are made as house guard, because they bark when they see someone coming in. Our dogs do the same thing everytime they see people. Even if it's just us, they bark and gets excited. They don't get mad though if they see something wrong, they just bark. hehehe..

Wow! You find out the most interesting things, Marcie.
I have never had a dog personally since I have been an adult. We had them when I was a teenager. One was a daushand/Pekenese mix and the other a Saint Benard/Shepard mix. Both were rather smart. My mom now owns a Shitzu named Daisy. She is the smartest little dog.

I have a pekingese, these kinds of dogs are very smart and very protective. It seems when I am sick, and not up doing what ever it is I'm usually doing, he will lay beside me if I'm on the couch or in bed he lays beside the bed. At night if he isn't on the bed he is in the door way so that no one can come in. My hubby taught him as a baby to protect me, he would act like he was hitting me on the arm and I would yell, so now when someone starts toward me, he gets between me and them. Now my hubby has a fight every night to get into the bedroom, I told him you taught him good, he sometimes at night hears something outside and he will come bark at the door for me to get up and come see. And if I don't follow him to the door he will come back and bark till I get up, we live in an apartment complex and it is usually someone coming home, but he can't see who it is. He has learned that when I leave, I will come from one direction because there is only one way out and back in, so he lays by the patio door watching for the truck to come around the corner, and he runs to the door barking. My hubby said he always knows when I'm coming, so he comes out to get the groceries if that is where I went, if hubby cooking something in the kitchen and the smoke alarm goes off and I'm in the back he comes flying back there barking for me to follow him, and I think that is important, because I believe he would alert me if there was fire in the front of the house and I was in the back. My hubby said when I left for Ohio one time for a few days he laid by the window and would not eat or do anything waiting for me to come back. Dogs get attached to their owners and if they up and leave them they have no idea where you went. We are from the hurricane Katrina and after the storm and we went back down to see what was left he just went up to the steps and stood there like where is the house, he just laid down as far as he was concerned he was home.

That was a nice story about you dog, they are smart. I sorry you lost everything from hurricane katrina, when I was looking at all the damage. I heard some of the people ddn't want to leave the dogs but they had to. They were trying to find there dogs and couldn't, That was sad. The dog I used to take care of was a golden retriver, he was so smart, ever time I would come he would be happy to see me, his masters had him on a diet. I would feel sorry or him and ive him some of what the boy and I were eating, I think that is why he liked me so much. I would sneak and give him some food. not a lot, I felt so sorry for him. he had to weigh a certain amount. That had a million dollars insurance on that dog, he was one of those dogs that helped the handicapped.

That's a surprise to hear that. I never know that there are so many breeds of dogs in the world. I think I can name no more than 30 breeds. In the past I had a sharpie dog. He had wrinkles and that's so cute. I like big size dog. My favorite kind is the Tibetan dog. They are as powerful as lion, and they are also very loyal.
I love China

I used to be able to name every single one of them. I desperately needed a hobby as a kid, so dogs were it, lol. I am still pretty good at identifying them, especially if see an exotic looking dog on TV. Dogs are very intuitive and I've learned that from owning so many in my life. All of the dogs that we owned have had different personalities. It's kind of like they are humans sometimes. Right now, we have three siblings that are Boxaroos. That means that they are part Boxer/Labrador/Poodle. They have amazing personalties and are extremely intelligent. And the breed of dog that I've always wanted to own is a Border Collie.

Sounds like you know a lot about Dogs. Collie Dogs are pretty, they were showing dogs this Morning on T.V. They were dressing the dogs up as Brides and Grooms, and some were wear the same color as there Master, they looked so cute. They said that Celibrities include them in there Wedding. dresses them up in Tuxs and everything. I think that so cute when I see a Dog dressed up.

You never owned a dog huh? That's really sad. Dogs are said to be man's bestfriend. I have a dog and he is really fun to be with. He just loves it when I rub his tummy and he waits for us when we go out everyday. When we come back, he welcomes us with his doggy hug. Having a dog is fun and I hope you will be able to experience that soon.

Yes, And I think that I have all four hundred living with me now. Really there are only four but it seems like four hundred. We have an Australian Cattle Dog, Australian Shepherd, a Maltese, and a German shepherd mix. They are a hand full and the little Maltese is the ruler of the group.

I have worked, in my teen years, as a pet minder when people go on holidays. One dog I looked after was terrified of me, even though I had met her before her 'parents' went away. She just hid in her kennel and wimpered and carried on like I was going to eat her! After about 30 mins of me trying to coax her out, she came, teeth first and bit me! Oops, that was my fault as I was the treat and she felt as though I was going to harm her. Well, the bite was only mild, no blood etc, so I just kept being patient and sat on the back steps. This poor dog then decided she was going to try and make friends and came upto me, with her head down and all submissive, even though she had just bitten me! lol. This dog and I became firm friends, and I never had a problem with her after that. I guess she was just testing my reactions to her actions, so was just doing what a dog does. That is to say, she understood my intentions, but I didn't give her the room to move, so I could see why she bit me. oh, and she was a rotweiler, but so gorgeous and sweet once you got to know her.
My mum used to have a rotti a few years back, in the days of me being in nappies! lol. And this dog was the terror of the neighbourhood, though I think that was other peoples ignorance more than anything. When I came along, instead of getting all jealous, as you hear a lot with dogs, especially Rotties, she took it upon herself to teach me how to play. It was like she knew I needed her and she had a new playmate to boot. This same dog would not be visited by the vets because he was too afraid of her bark! Hhhmmm, it was worse than her bite, and I'm sure once he got over his fear, he'd have had no problems.

I love dogs. Once I asked for a puppy from my boss and he gave me one. I brought home the puppy and my kids were so happy. But my wife wasn't that happy for it was so noisy, it always bark with nothing. So I have to tie it at the backyard. One day, the kids untied it and they let it play around. To our surprise, it was gone and never came back, until now...
