Am I the only one who feels a bit starved by todays selection of authors and books. Even the Bestsellers are mostly fluffy non existant books I think. Da Vinchi Code made a good deal of money and so did Devil Wears Prada, but 20 years from now will anyone remember either of those. There seems to be a lack of great writers today and probably a bigger lack in demand for quality. This may sound like an elitist high brow post but that is how i feel about this stuff. It just seems to me that today's books are more writen to be bought than anyhting else.

I dunno, the Da Vinci Code may be recognised 20 years from now. I know the author that I've been attatched to, Anne McCaffery, for several years and her series started before I was born. I still know it years later and so will my kids probably when I have them. lol
I do agree with you in some aspects though. There will be stories out that that will never be remembered because they aren't that catchy. Some of them I just can't get into.

I'm not a literary purist myself. You might want to try the work of Cormac McCarthy, I haven't read any myself but they are very well written books from what I hear and each one is also a vocabualary lesson. Alos Jeffery Eugenides is a great writer.
