Hello,
I am visiting this topic of interest for the first time this month. I have not wrote an article here because I want to be optimistic.
I just had another (3rd IEP at school today). School year is only one month away and then the school ends and the kids move on to the next grade.
I am heart broken, lost and totally drowning in devastation.
My daughter is moving onto first grade. I should be happy but I am not because I fear that she cannot cope with this. I don't know what will happen with the new teacher too. I barely establish a connection with her current teacher that now is time to move on again to a new one.
She still wets in pants in school and what else can there be? She still refused to speak and let the teacher know she needs the restroom. The restroom is actually only a hallway away, the k-grade have their own restroom inside the classroom. Is that nice? yes it is and I was so glad there was one becuase I was so worried.
IEP will refer her to OT (ocupational therapy). She currently has speech and social skills and behavior therapy. But I fear the new teacher will not understand her needs and neglect her needs are different and this will impact her learning and behavior. I hate to see her regeress in her improvements.
She is not doing academically well, yet the school grades her on a different grading scale so obviously she is behind compared to her peers.
Oh gosh, I am so tempted to quit working and home school her. but I don't have the money to quit working.

we are faced with a similiar problem and i hope your Daughter does ok in her own personal transition intothe first grade. i think all of kids get stuck and at this point i am not sure which it is harder on us or the kids. Cause the more we stress the harder they stress. just remember they feed off us and we need to be strong for them. just remember every school is required to give us any help to make our children sucsessful. good luck on your juroney. its a hard road and we all have to face the challenges of school and change.
