..... my daughter and I walked to the store with our pull cart to the bus stop to catch the last bus iof the day home, and just before we got to a house on the corner accross the street a couple was walking their two dogs and pushing their baby in a stroller. The people in the house opened their door and let their dogs out.One was a large black dog, which I thought was a black sherpherd mixed with something. The other dog was a small off white dog.I was accross the street and it was so small I could not guess what kind of dog it was.The fence around the yard does not have gates at the driveway. They put this fence up about 6 months ago.The big dog ran out the fence and down the sidewalk barking and growling at the two dogs being walked by their owners. The woman started yelling at the hispanic woman to get her dog instead the woman ran around the fence and grabbed the stroller and started up the sidewalk with it about 10 feet. The woman was still yelling,"No,get your dog".But,the woman apparently did not understand her english. The dog was not even bothering the baby or the stroller. Then a hispanic man came out and started chaseing after the dog.The dog ran accross the street and was barking and growling and my daughter and I.My daughter got behind me at my command and I put the pull cart in front of me.Then after a few minutes the dog ran back accross the street and the man got him back into the partially fenced yard and left him there, like he was going to actually stay! The people took their baby and dogs and headed back up the sidewalk. Then the dog went back out the fence as I expected and headed up the sidewalk. This time the dog cameout the gate that was left open. The man ran back out of the house, accross the yard and up the sidewalk and was yelling at the dog.Meanwhile the other smaller dog excaped the yard by squezing thru the slats in the fence. Then the bus came by and we missed it,because the bus stop was there on the corner.A second hispanic man came out from the house and was also shouting at the dog and chaseing him. The big doug ran in the street in front of a van,but the van was able to stop. Then after a few more minutes they got the dogs in.But,we had missed our bus, because the stop was right there on the corner. That was the last bus of the day,so we had to walk home. There is a law that pets have to be leashed or fenced properly, but it is not enforced.Don't you think it should be?

Wow! What a story...I couldn't stop reading it! It is unbelievable. All because people cannot speak English and have no common sense. All animals should be gated not running out the streets. And all because of this, you had to walk home. What is the world coming to?

That is why we need to stop having everything in Spanish...and we need to make it a requirement to live here.

People that have dogs should have control over them...They should either be inside or in a fenced yard....I have a small house dog,she stays inside, she only goes out to potty ,and runs right back inside...I would never have a dog without a fence or never tie up a dog..I am afraid that a lot of people have pets that do not deserve them...Had that dog bit ,they would have been in deep trouble...

Yes I do. We live out in the country and there's not a leash law here. We keep our dogs indoors or in their pen though except when they go out to use the bathroom. One of them we take out on a leash cause we can't get her back in until she gets really tired. When you live around others you have to be careful and keep them from annoying or scaring others.

Sorry you had to deal with such an ordeal to get home. Yes, there are leash laws and there should be something done in these situations and a call to the appropriate authorities may be needed to make them aware of the situation.

It seems very silly to have a law somewhere about something if it is not enforced. Are they just hoping that people will abide by the law?
It is hard to keep a dog tied up or fenced in - I know we've had several dogs run away on many occasions. I think this all depends on the breed - some are better trained than others :)
Either way, I definitely agree if you have a law it should be enforced. On the bright side, think of all that great exercise you got and something to post about on mylot too! (I always try to find the good in the bad, lol)

It is very popular,I have found in a lot of counties. They make a law because a lot of citizens complain. So,they make the law just to shut everyone up and then don't do much about it after words. But,tommorow morning Iam called the Animal Warden's office.

wow, that must've been kinda scary for you and your daughter! Not to mention the inconvenience of missing the last bus! These uninforced laws probably only come into play when there's a lawsuit. Instead of enforcing them to protect people in the first place like they're intended!

Those people should have better control of their dogs. Thats not fair to the pedestrians walking. I have always had dogs, I have never just let them outside to roam the neighborhood. That is dangerous, them dogs could have attacked. The yard should be secure all the way around, or the dogs should be put on a chain when they are let outside. That had to have been scary for you and your daughter. I get scared when I see dogs running loose, you never know if they are friendly or not.

We dont have any dog rules here. But I dont live in a big town. Very small town, no cops nothing but an extremely tiny post office that they just brought in one of those little shed things. LOL..pathetic I know...but its home. Gotta drive about 30-45 minutes to get groceries, but its quiet LOL.
I would have been so mad if that were me. And I probably would have done something. Im a very loud opinionated person and tend to speak my mind and take action before I actually think things through. I think that if there are laws about things like that, then they should definatly be enforced. Maybe you should it in and make a report?

The owner of the dog that was uncontrolled should be reported to the spca. I normally never interfer except when there is absolutely no controll over an animal.
That dog could of bit a child.
We have rescued several aggressive dogs that were going to be shot or put down/ so we took them and made them into wonderful dogs. Except one that was my husbands because he would still come at you if he thought you were in the wrong in discipling or putting in the pen or on leash.
He is no longer and I am a bit relieved. However, if people are not responsibe with theyre animals and don't get training and help when needed then they should not have them.
There is a by law about dogs being on the loose. It is not allowed in the city.
Even if it were My dogs are never off they're lead in the city or parks or rec areas where there might be other dogs.
Most people do not understand the dog language and do not become a leader of the pack. This doesn't mean you are to be abbusive. What it tells the dog when you establish leadership you give the dog his place and understanding that once matured an trained will become a good citizen and be able to go anywhere.
All my dogs are welcomed into my friends homes and to stay overnight with me because i am they're leader. I am persistant and stubborn if i say stay then my dogs will stay If it takes an hour for a young dog to learn to stay for five minutes then I ve won and next time the dog will stay after only 20 minutes.
those people were completly irresponsible.
