What type of Alarm Clock do you prefer?

May 31, 2008 5:26am CST
I'm not a morning person, I hate getting up early to go to work. I'm useless with alarm clocks as well. This is why i'm asking to see what type of alarm clocks people prefer. You see I never wake up if it's just a repeated beeping, i get used to that and go back to sleep. However having the radio on wakes me up, usually gradually but I mean it wakes me up rather than just getting me up. So what type do you use? prefer?

the classic ones always annoy me and wake me up for a second then i'm straight off back to sleep with the alarm going off in my dreams.

When I was working I used a combination cloak radio with a duel alarm. The first alarm, I would get up and start the pot of coffee then went back under the covers. After 15 minutes the radio would turn on, I would go get a cup of coffee and go back under the covers, sip the coffee and wake up slowly to the music that was playing.

Most of the time I do not need an alarm clock. I am an early morning person unless I feel bad. I hate alarm clocks. Whe I have to use one just to make sure I'm up I use the beeping on turned down really low. Mostly I just tell myself over and over when I go to sleep what time I need to get up and I usually do it. When I was younger we had one that had 2 bells on the top and an arm that tapped them both. It was extremely load and I put it in the hallway. I had to get up to turn it off but that load ringing of 2 bells was not going off next to my head or anywhere close to me. They will get you up.

I know what you mean. I do not like alarm clocks. The sound bothers me and I don't like being rudely woken up. That's what an alarm clock does. If it is loud I get a headache from it. Not the way to start a day, lol.

I had one of those alarms with 2 bells on top when I was younger, very annoying weren't they! Some alarms are too much, they make me feel aggressive when i've been woken up by one that is too loud.

My absolute preference is for the wifely kind. Ideally she will be bearing tea and offering bacon sarnies for breakfast. She will cuddle me awake before telling me that I have 30 seconds to shower and dress because we/she have to be somewhere. I rarely actually have to be up by a certain time these days. But if there is no wife, then an old fashioned alarm clock will jolt me out of bed, moaning and groaning. Normally, though, I just wake up at the right time. I don't know how it works, but it does.

I hate being cuddled in the mornings, It makes me feel really uncomfortable. I prefer the radio alarm to the boyfriend one! I find when I have a week off work i'm more likely to just wake up early in the morning rather than when I have to go to work, even if i've gone to bed at the same time!

and it makes the day last longer. I hate waking up late on Sundays and only having a few hours to relax before I have to think about going back to bed. I could do with mondays off.

I know that feeling. I used to wonder why it was that 6.30 felt fine on a saturday but not on Monday. But then on a saturday I didn't have to dress up like an office person and go out and spend my days conducting relatively pointless exercises for other relatively pointless people.

Right now my kids and husband are my best alarm clocks. They don't let me go back to sleep. Before them I had an alarm clock that beeped and played the radio, that was annoying enough to get me out of bed, especially if I put the radio where it was slightly off so that it makes the fuzzy sound, I hate that so it would make me get up. I can sleep through the beeping as well, and if the radio comes on by itself, I will go back to sleep and the music will be like a part of my dream. So I have to make it as annoying as possible for me to get up.

That reminds me of my pet cat Tabby. She still lives at home with my parents as i've had her since I was 5 (i'm 26 now) but she used to wake me up by meowing directly into my face only about an inch awake. That always gave me a shock but I loved her for it.

I used to use alarms to get up in the mornings, but it has been many years since. I haven't had to set an alarm for about 20 years, as I just wake up when I have to. I used to use the radio to wake me, like you.

Hey, Thanks for your reply. Do you find you just manage to wake up when you need or do you not need to get up early?

I just always seem to wake up when I need to. I do have to get up early to go to work. I have only slept in a few times but I almost always seem to just wake up in time.

If I had the time I'd wake up and doze for at least an hour. Usually get woken up at about 6.30 and then used the snooze for just 30 minutes. It does take me a while to get motivated in the morning anyway. If i'm off I always nip on the computer for a bit first then get on with stuff, coincidently that's what i'm doing right now. 3 minutes and then I better start tidying up.

I have two alarm clocks ! one has a buzzer, nature sounds, and the radio I could wake up to. The other is a dual alarm, when the buzzer goes off it`s a gradual sound, it gets louder and louder to wake you up! Nice idea but it just doesn't work! Getting up is always a struggle and having all these alarms going off every morning is border line stupid ! And iv`e worn out the snooze buttons on both ! silly isn't it? The guess it comes down to self discipline on my part but I wish there was A new tech that would help with this.

I like the sound of the nature one but I still don't think it would work on me too well!

I have to use 4 or 5 different alarms, phones, radios and elephants with tambourines- but when I was a kid it was a simple Garfield alarm clock. Proper bells on top so when the alarm went if the noise alone don't wake you then trapping your finger between the ringer and the bell would get you up and attem. I also have industrial strength coffee for when I'm still groggy. :)

I used to have a Big Ben alarm clock, the old traditional type one. Actually I still have it but don't really use it. I used to have a Bart Simpson one too but I can't actually remember using it.

Clock radio works for me. But while growing up, I was used to the conventional beep-beep of the alarm clock and it was enough to wake me up then. There was a time when I get to sleep in a place where clock radio were the only thing available that can serve as an alarm clock and I got scared the first time that thing woke me up... LOL! The radio was set to one of those rock and roll stations so imagine waking up for loud music. But clock radio warmed its way to me and I've been using it ever since.

ah, when I was younger my mum used to wake me up. That was so much easier and reliable. Maybe thats why I only wake up to voices well singing.

My own internal body clock.. hehe ^_^ It never fails to wake up up in the morning, but it's never on time, it will always wake me up 15-30mins earlier from the actual time.. LOL ^_^ And so, i will use an alarm clock with snooze, and set it at the actual time i have to wake up.. And so, i wun be too late if i wanna laze on the bed for awhile more.. LOL ^_^ U should know, the bed is the most comfortable when u have to force yourself to leave it.. LOL

I often wake up early in my life.Because of my family, which is live up to sell the foods in early morning,I have a habit that getting up early by myself, although now I do not need to do like before to sell things(because now I have a new life-style with my wife),I keep the habit.
4 Jun 08
Being able to wake up early is a great habit. I know what you mean though, if you get used to waking up at a certain time your body clock alters.

I prefer my alarm clock to be set to the radio. This way I wake up and I am informed about the events. Furthermore, this is a more effective setting to get me up on a timely manner. The radio setting is a more effective setting.

I don't really use an alarm clock because I find that if I really need to get up for something I am able to. I think it's a combination of my internal body clock and my the sunlight filtering into the room.

I'd love a life without alarm clocks! Strangely I don't think I get up too late at the weekend when I don't have it on. I'm usually up for 8.30 - 9.30.

I personnally need to have two alarm clocks. I use the alarm on my phone cause it is one of the most annoying sounds I have ever heard, and then I also use an alarm on my dresser across the room, for to tun it off I have to physically get up, and then I am up for the day.
4 Jun 08
It seems like nobody really likes getting up! What would we do without alarm clocks?!
