Do you think that there's such a thing as "too late" to go back to school?
I am 25 years old. I have stopped studying for five years and now I am going back to school to continue and finish my studies.
When do you think will it be too late? How old is the oldest classmate that you had?

No you are never too late to go back to school either to get qualifications for the job you want or just for the fun of it. When I lived in the UK I did some Open University courses which are a sort of semi correspondence thing but you get a regular class and a summer school. On one of the courses I did at the summer school there was a man of 82 so proof positive I reckon that no you are never too old. It can be scary at first but I think you enjoy it more second time around as you are there with a real purpose. Good Luck with your studies!

Hi there overhere!
I am actually going to finish my studies because I really love teaching. It just so happen that I will get extra income aside from my own business and I am planning to teach in a public school since we are always short on teachers here in the Philippines and when you teach in public schools, you get extra benefits too.
82? That's so cool. More than enough proof that it's never too late.
Thank you very much for your response.

Well, I'm 34 and I'm going back to school to finish my bachelors degree, so that's not too late! I have a friend who is in her 50's and she returned to school last year. I think you're never too old to learn!

I had before a classmate who were in their 30-35, a mother and a wife too. I don't think so there is such thing since education if a lifelong process and it is very good when you have the time to do it despite of your responsibility at home. So, don't think negative about it!

It is never too late to go back to school to finish your studies. As long as you have the desire and passion to do it. It is a bit harder though to study as you get old. You are a bit lazy and a lot of harder to learn because you have already so many experiences and you tend to forgot the basic.
I tried taking some masteral degree in Business Administration a few years ago but I was not able to finished due to some other priorities. Now I am trying to go back to school again, but not master but on a different field, like nursing or something related to medical field which very in demand today. My problem is the time and will to finish it. I hope I can have that same energy when I was still young.
Good luck in your studies. 25 is still young, you have not reach your peak yet. Take the chance now while you still can.

Hi there Robert!
Yeah, I am actually worried about remembering things because now I am really forgetful. I am afraid I won't remember details that I have too especially during exams. I might need to take some memory enhancers and try if they will work.
I am really excited to go back to school now. I actually dreamt about it last night. I have bad eyes, I don't see clearly unless I am wearing eyeglasses and I dreamt about having problems copying what's written in the blackboard and getting scolded by our professor. It was embarrassing.
Good luck with your plans of studying again. Thank you very much for your response.

i have a cousin who still studies when she was in her 30's. that's because she got pregnant and she need to stop in her studies in order for her to take care of their son. then after so many years, like 10 years, she studied again and finished her course.
i guess there's no age limit when it comes on studying as long as you're willing to learn. i guess my oldest classmate was around 25 or 26

It's never too late to go back to school. My mom is in her 50s and is considering going back again. The oldest classmate I've had was well over 60. At 25, you'll be right in the range of traditional students.
Congrats on deciding to go forward with your studies! :)

Hi there Fluff n Flowers!
Thank you very much. I think you should encourage your mom too. Well, I don't know where you live but here in the Philippines, college students are from 16-20 years old if they didn't stop their studies. But yeah, I guess 25 isn't really far from the normal age of college students so maybe I can still fit in.
Thank you very much for your response.

Nah it's not too late and never think it will be too late either. When I was studying at uni for a bachelor degree I sometimes saw few older people like 30s and 40s sitting in a room full packed with mostly students at 20s like me. These people feel nothing and it's better to gain something while they can for their future benefits (i.e better jobs, etc). So I suggest you to commence study as soon as you can because you will never know what future holds for you :)

It's never to late to educate yourself. Back to school at any age is good, but I don't think it stops there. You can educate yourself besides just school. I like to read as much as possible, and learn from other people. Mylot helps in that respect. Education is like beauty, in the eye of the beholder I think. But back to school is never too late, never. Plus, you are making an excellent example for others.

I believe it is NEVER to late to learn. My mother graduated just last year with her associates after going back to school at 52 years of age.
I believe it only gets to late when one has lost the yearn to learn new things- which I think may be never- at least for me.
I found myself attending college at the age of 32 because I decided not to go right out of high school. Now I wish I did- I would have had more time and less responsibility to deal with if I went right after high school. It is hard maintaining a full time job, a part time job and online classes- but I just tell myself it all be worth it in the end.

It's never too late. There's always something to learn. I heard about an 86 year old woman who graduated from college this year.
My daughter dropped out of college half way through her junior year and went back 4 years later to finish. I went back to business school when I was 45. I was the oldest one in my class and many of the students I would see around campus thought I was a teacher . I found that subjects like math that I just couldn't comprehend in high school came much easier for me at that time in my life. So once again, it's never too late!

Hi there Bead Doodler!
I always joke about that with my mom and sisters. I have grey hairs and I say I'm planning to dye my hair black before school starts because I don't want my classmates confusing me as the teacher.

It is never to late to educate yourself. I finished my bachelors degree in my 30's because I had two very hectic pregnancies that kept me from going to school full time. I don't regret taking time off from school because I learned alot about myself and life. Life, for one, will never stop because of your circumstances. You must always take life one step at a time and look forward instead of giving up :)
I wish you all the best in your future nanayangel!
P.S. My oldest classmate graduated with us in 2006 at 67 years of age. She gave an honorary speech about her ph.D in street knowledge and how she planned to use her new degree to change her life. I thought it was beautiful! She is currently working as a paralegal with her B.A in English.

Hi there! It is never too late to continue your education. I am thirty four and I am going back to college in the fall to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse. I have always wanted to go back to school, but was afraid that I would not be able to provide for my son while I attended school. I know that it will be rough and money will be tight for a few years, but afterwards I will be doing something I have always dreamed of and making a lot of money to go with it. Go Back! I once had a seventy something year old man in a college computer class. He just wanted to learn it!

Hi there deborah!
That's great! Good luck with your studies. We are actually worried about that too but I guess now would be a better time since our son is only in kindergarten. We think that it's better this time instead of me studying when he's in high school or college.
Financially, it will be tough but me and my husband are willing to work aside from earning from our business. As of now though, I told my husband to just take care of our business and take care of our son while I'm studying. Well, my mother will be helping too in case that our shop assistant won't be able to report to work and my husband have to man the shop himself. If there will be a need, I might work part time too aside from my part time work as a book keeper in my uncle's beach resort.
Good luck to us and thank you very much for your response.

I have seen in television about older people (much older than you) who goes back to school just to finish their high school studies. They probably have known in their life the importance of having an education.
I think there will never be "too late" if you wanted to pursue something. Though in your case expect the attention and spotlight that you will get in your class (but even so your only 25 and your classmates will only be in their 19 or 20's).
I have known someone who have the same case like you. She had also goes back to school after marriage and having a child. After 2 years of studies, she had graduated with honor in her class.
Good luck and hope you'll have fun in school.

There is never "Too Late" for those people who want to study or finish their studies. I had a 39 years old classmate when I was in college and darn! He is smart and really good hehehe... he told us that the reason why he stopped going to school is to work hard for his family then it is only now he get the chance to finish his studies...I really admire him.

I don't think there is such a thing as "too late" to go back to school. I go to school online at the University of Phoenix and a lot of the students there are a prime example of the fact that you can continue your education at any age. There are a lot of people in their 30's, 40's, and even 50's that are going back to school to get a degree. I am 25 and one of the younger people there.

Hi there Phoenix!
You're right. So I have noticed that a lot of people here in mylot, usually from other countries are studying online. I don't know how that works, is it hard or is it much easier? Do you get to choose the time for your clesses?
Thank you very much for your response.

Oh, I see. So you don't really go to a physical college at all? Everything is done online.

I don't know how other schools do it, so I can only tell you how University of Phoenix does it. For your associate's degree, you take 2 9-week classes at a time. Those classes alternate work weeks and participation weeks. Every other week is a work week in one class and, meanwhile, you have participation weeks on those weeks in the other class. On work weeks, you work on individual assignments, usually papers and powerpoint presentations. On participation weeks, you have to answer discussion questions and participate in discussions with the teacher and other students in your class. If you take math classes, those are a little different. You do have to do "tests", but they are open-book so it's not that difficult. Your assignments are due on certain days and you just do them when you have time and turn them in before the end of the day on the day they are due. With the class discussions, you just post responses to something kind of like a message board whenever you check into class. You don't have a certain time that you have to go in. The associate's program was really not that hard. You do have to know how to write and how to write in APA format, but most of the students I went to school with still didn't know how to do that after we had finished. The bachelor's program is a little different and more challenging. Your classes are 5 weeks long and you only take one class at at time. You have individual assignments due during that time, usually papers and maybe a powerpoint presentation. You also do discussion questions and participation each week. What makes it really challenging is that you get split up into "learning teams" and you have to write papers or put together powerpoint presentations together. This can get really difficult when someone doesn't pull their own weight. I have heard that some businesses were picking UoP business students over Harvard business school graduates because of the learning team environment for the bachelor's degree program. It teaches you how to work with people and how to get things done when things go wrong - and they will go wrong. Some of the classes are more challenging than others. I had to take a statistics class as part of my bachelor's degree program in psychology and it was HARD. Online learning is a great way to learn if you work or if you have a family...or if you live out in the middle of nowhere AND have a family like me. There's no way I could possibly drive to a physical college campus for school. I hope this helps you out.

There's no such thing as too late to learn or too old to go back to school.
Every year on the news, they always feature senior citizens in their 70's and 80's getting their HS diplomas or getting their degrees. They do this to encourage others who might think they're too old or it's too late to go back to school and to publicly congratulate these graduates.
The good thing about studying and learning, is that you can do it for the rest of your life.
