Do You Keep Your Old Cellphone?

Philippines

The price of cellphone nowadays drop abruptly once they got out of fashion. Of course, most do not want to be left behind by the new models and features of cellphones that are coming out of the market today. If you buy a new one, what will you do with your old outdated phone?

Usually I exchange the old mobile with the new one in the shop and pay the additional amout for the new one. But I have kept my first mobile with me without giving that to any one.

I just hope I kept my analog cellphone also since I cannot fine one of those already. Could be a good collection. analog phones were pretty much bigger and heavier than our cellphones today. Also, my first digital cellphone may now be considered an antic (a Nokia 5110i), although some still use it. Yes, if an item has a sentimental value to us, you would really want to keep it. It may be worthless to others, but a treasure to you and it's priceless. have a great day padmameera!

That's what I usually do when I don't have somebody to give my old cellphone. I just exchange it with a new cellphone and pay the remaining charge. You keep your first cellphone, maybe that has a sentimental value for you that it reminds you of something whenever you see your first cellphone.

Yes it has got some sentimental value in it. I bought it when the cell phones are not common among people. It looks like a primitive one now, yet I like that one very much.

Yes, cell phones are getting more and more expensive. However, I tend to replace mine every couple of years. I donate all my old cell phones to the local sheriff's department to be refurbished and given to the elderly to call for help, should they need it. Also, our local domestic violence program takes them, I think, to provide them to women who may need assistance. I also think there is a local program that takes used items and takes them apart for parts to rebuild new items. I forget what that program is called but if you search for "recycle old cell phones" on a search engine, a lost of those programs all over the U.S. will probably come up. PearlGrace

Hi PearlGrace, i just appreciate you for thinking the needs of others and yes, it may be that simple way to donate an old cellphone so our indigent brothers and sisters could use but it's impact to our community and to the people will be great. So just keep it up and may you receive more grace from up above PearGrace!

PearlGrace, that's a very good way of disposing your old cellphone. You are disposing them for a good cause by donating them so other's could also used them. You are making a better world and I salute you for that. I guess there are a lot like you in your country who are willing to donate for others. More power to you!

I tend to pass my mobile phone on to someone else, my last phone went to my younger sister. The other alternatives would be recycling it with Envirophone to get some money or keeping it in case my phone breaks and I need a temporary back up.

Hi! I dont buy that many phones. Im more loyal to my things actually. I only use one bag, one pair of shoe, and whole other ones.^_^ I have other things but I always use one and its my favorite and its the only thing I use until its very very broken down that it cant function well anymore. With cellphones I would have kept only one but originally I did have one. My Mom is the one who likes to have new ones so as time went on and she got bored or got old with the her phone I would always have it. I have no siblings so Im the 'dumping' site of most stuff here at home. If I want it I can have it if I dont we sell it or give to other relatives as gifts or we donate it to others who needs it more. Right now I have 2 phones. My 1 year old phone and my 6 year old phone which is broken and is under repairs. I still use them both. Like I said I will keep on using them until they are not recognizable to be phones anymore.LOL^_^

That's cool for still keeping your 6 year old phone. I guess you can still have that phone 10 years from now and still working and in good condition. Maybe you could even keep that for a longer time to reach a Guiness World Record.

Now I think thats a plan. I say why not? Now Ill be taking extra care of it now so it will still work 10 years from now. Maybe it can be displayed in an old cellphone museum sometime. Like the first ever cellphone that was still really huge and has a long antenna and cant text yet. Thanks!^_^

yes, that's a nice idea. You could even keep it and someday you could show to your great grand children the evolution of cellphone. By that time, our high tech phones today will already be obsolete and will just be a history.

I don't care about new models and features, I just use my cellphone for calls. My hubby gave me a new cell phone last year for my birthday. It's pretty simple and I like it. I still have my old cell phone. Nothing wrong with it and if we ever need a backup phone, we've got one.

Yes, there's nothing wrong with just keeping your old cellphone since you could use it as a backup phone. And I admire you for being just practical and just use your phone for calls. That's the main purpose of the cellphone anyway.

I think I'll keep mine as a backup, if trading in gives a really low price. Maybe I'll try selling it on e-bay and let it go if the bid reaches an amount I'm willing to part with. Oh course, before I let it go, be sure to wipe of all data, photos, messages, contacts etc. Beware of identity theft.

Yes, be very vigilant not to forget erasing all your data and information in your old cellphone before selling them. It would be very risky I think if you forget to erase them as others may try to swindle you or your friends.

I bought a new cellular phone last year.I tried to sell my old nokia 8810 but its price was low as US40.I thought this was crazy because I bought it for US399 sevan years ago.So I decided to keep it as it still works well.Maybe I will give it to my nephew.

Yes, that's how the price of cellphones depreciate that much nowadays. And I agree with your idea for just keeping it and give it to the younger ones like your nephew who will be grateful for having a cellphone to use.

I go through cell phones very quickly and I either give them to a friend who just broke their phone or I donate them. They take the phones and give them to battered women or abused children to use in case of an emergency...it's a good cause that most can donate to!

Old cellphones are great to keep for emergencies or for other situations like a child going away on their own and who own a very expensive phone or an old phone. Also where I'm from (England) websites offer money for old cellphones.

So that's another great reason then for keeping an old cellphone. If it is still working, you can use in for emergencies. And you could also get monetary rewards in exchange of your old cellphone from your country. Too bad, we don't have such here in my country. So I just keep it or give to my younger siblings.

hi mhigzz, hope you could make something big out of experimenting broken things. Who knows you could make a better communication device out of your broken phone. LOL! Yes, it's good that you give your old phones to relatives who do not have one so they could also get connected.

I have a closet full of old cellphones. I should probably get rid of them but you never know when they might come in handy. There have been several instances that I have activated an old phone is use until I purchase a more up to date model.

So you have got a collection of cellphones then. I guess you change your cellphone quite often for you to get your closet full of old cellphones. Hope that you'll get a better way of getting rid of your cellphone collections. Maybe you could donate them or even sell them so you get some amount to purchase a new cellphone. Good luck!

hello sunshine lady, that's a very good way of disposing your old cellphones. It will help a lot of people in your community to get connected and have a means to communicate for their emergency purposes. And saving the environment as well by not just throwing them on your garbage cans although they are still working. Better put them for a good cause.

That's a pretty good deal already if you've got nothing to do with your old cellphone. Because the price of the cellphone depreciate too much, maybe you wouldn't get the same value when you trade it later. So I guess 10% discount for your new cellphone is a good deal for your old one.

No normally by the time I'm done with my phone and getting a new one its a peice of crap. It might sit around but It doesnt get used at all or I'd never think about using it again.. unless i was really desperate and something bad happened to my new phone;

Yes. We've never sold or exchanged any of our old cellphones. There's 6 of us in the family and 2 of us is too young for a cell phone but we've about 10 old cellphones aside from the main cell phones we use right now. Of course, I think some of those old cell phones don't work anymore. But my old cell phone, I use to insert a different network. At least people have multiple ways to contact me.
