black waxberry - black waxberry is the most well-known
Yuyao waxberry boasts of the largest cultivated area in China with longest history, as old as over 2000 years. And according to the archaeological discoveries in the Hemudu Site, which is inside the Yuyao area, there were uncultivated waxberry 7 thousand years ago. Presently, Yuyao has nearly 82,000 mou cultivated area of waxberry with annual production of about 20,000 tons, and there have been 19 towns of the city planting waxberry. And a lot of villages that are specialized in production of waxberry spring up, so all these helped Yuyao win the honor of “the world -renowned waxberry of Yuyao”. In June 1995, the Ministry of Agriculture named Yuyao as “hometown of China waxberry”. Yuyao waxberry has a lot of varieties, mainly including four major varieties of black, red, pink and white, among which the black “water chestnut” variety is the most well known and a most favored fruit in the country. This variety features round shape, small nutlet, the bright color and sweet taste. Agricultural technical personnel in Sanqishi town found a lot of old-aged waxberry woods around Shibu village; there are about 2000 trees with average age between 120 and 150 years old. Local government has established “old-aged waxberry scenic spot”. White waxberry mainly produced in Yaoxi Machu, Moushan are also well known, and its advantage is the fresh and sweet sour taste. And it normally comes into the market later than the water chestnut variety so as to prolong the marketing time of waxberry. When waxberry grows up every June, the “joyful tour in waxberry hometown” has attracted a lot of visitors inside and outside the province to gather around Yuyao. The tourists could taste waxberry here, and experience special local conditions and customs of waxberry hometown in China. so ningbo is famouse for its seafood as well as waxberry.by the way, which city do you live?

Yes,it could be dried and processed, but it almost lose the original taste.as you can not have the feeling of sweet and acidity. It can not be freez,as this fruit have not the skin like others,it will be more delicious if you dip it in the solt water for a little while.

They sound yummy! I never had waxberry, sorry. If I'm able to eat them I will. They sound like a mixture between cherry/strawberry/raspberry, am I right? They are like a cherry because they have seed (pit) in them. They are like strawberry because they are sweet and juicy. They are like raspberry because they have little hairs . Thank you for teaching us about waxberry. Pablo

Hey,mate.I love it,but the only time i ever tried the fresh waxberry is when i went south to travel.Unfortunately ,we are living in the north and fresh waxberry are not easy to preserve so it's really hard to find fresh ones here up in the north. What we usually see are those in the packet.
