How do you celebrate your birthday?

It is my mothers birthday today and last night we went out for dinner and had a lovely family outing. We then went back and had the cake and 'Happy Birthday' at her house because she didn't want a fuss and didn't want everyone to hear her birthday song at the restaurant. My mums idea of a birthday celebration is a nice quiet gathering with only family members in attendance, or simply not celebrating at all! Other birthday celebrations I have attended have been huge with all the attention put directly on the Birthday boy or girl. They have lapped it up in style. Marques and chairs and tables have had to be hired to seat all of the family, friends and aquaintances. The cake has had many tiers and the dinner has been a full three courses! I think that I have touched on celebration in two totally different degrees, which extreme do you lean towards? Do you like to think that you celebrate like other people or do you like your own unique ways? My birthday is coming up in August give me some great ideas for how I should celebrate! What is your favourite Birthday celebration that you remember and why do you think it has stuck with you?

Why thank you very much, and a Happy Birthday to you for your next one too! I like to do the family thing too, nothing like a huge family gathering. Isn't it great catching up with all your relatives and watching their children grow?

My mom will buy a birth cake, and then invite her friends over our house. My mom is the chef on that day, my mom is the best cooker in the house but she doesn't cook everyday, I cook most of the time. She wishes she'll be able to cook everyday, but her busy working does not allow her to do so. It's because of that, my mom cooks on my birth day. I feel I am very happiness, I eat her cooked food once per year.

I can see that having your mum to yourself for your birthday would be a special activity. She sounds like a very busy working lady. I bet her food is delicious too! I am sure that you are naturally good at cooking too and with all the practce you have been having I am sure that soon you will be perfect - you know what they say about practicing!

I usually dont...in fact I've NEVER had a birthday party..even as a child...my hubby and kids get me cards and give me money (since I'm so hard to buy for LOL AND I like doing my own shopping anyway) and my hubby also always asks if I want to go out for dinner but I never do...

Oh go on, celebrate this time around, suprise everyone! I do like the idea of getting money to shop for just what you want - especially if the hubby gets to mind the kids too. I do like wandering the stores with a pocketfull of money, a license to buy what I want and a whole lot of time to enjoy!

You can't go past favourite food with favourite people - just the way to celebrate your birthday. Of course if you are dressed to impress it only makes the day even more fun!

I did this for a few birthdays but that seems like a life time ago. At the time I thought I was having a good time, but I don't actually have any fantastic memories of it! As long as you are happy getting drunk for your birthday, go ahead and have one for me wont you?

Hello,Advanced Birthday Wishes to you first of all. I celebrate my birthday by getting up bit early than usual days and get ready and buy fruits and blankets for the old age people and chocolates and crayons for orphanage children and go to the old age home and distribute the fruits and blankets to them and then go to orphanage and distribute chocolates and crayons to the orphanage children and spend little time over there and then come back to home and arrange lunch to my family members at home and spend time with them till the evening and then invite my friends for the dinner at some resort and enjoy my time there with my husband.

And a happy birthday to you too! What a lovely way to celebrate your birthday. I have never thought about waking up extra early, I usually try to sleep in on my birthday. Next time I think I will take a page out of your book and try the early waking thing. You would have some fantastic memories of your special day on many different levels. It is so rewarding to give to others.

I usually just celebrate my birthday with my husband and son. We go out to eat and just hang out. We might rent a movie or buy one or something, but we usually don't have anyone over or anything like that. I guess it would be different if I lived close to my family, but I don't. And I don't have any really close friends that I want to celebrate with.

I guess, as they say, blood is thicker than water and sometimes you do just want the ones you love the most around you. It is nice to relax and enjoy your birthday and food tastes so much better when someone else cooks it for you. I like your way of celebrating.

I would definitely prefer the smaller more intimate gathering with just friends and family. I don't like being the center of attention in real life. Online I don't mind chatting with many others. But offline it makes me feel self-conscious. A cake would be nice. Maybe a small celebration at a restaraunt. Nothing fancy. Costs less too. My tenth birthday sticks in my mind. Mostly cause I had lots of relatives at my party. Last big party that I ever had.

I think I feel kind of like your mom. If I must be celebrated, then we can do this at home, quietly , ove dinner, maybe a BBQ. I just don't feel like I need to celebrated. I friends and I know I am surrounded by love everyday. I just think a birday party is vain. When I bring world peace or win the Nobel Prize, then we can have a party, but not on my birthday.

I used to celebrate my birthdays with my friends and family, usually by having a party or something =] Come to think of it, it's kind of memorable. I feel so loved having so many people thinking and caring about me, and more importantly, remembering me :]

madebyrobyn, that is me to a tee. I love spending it with family, just going out to dinner and having a birthday cake, or even having takeaway at home with the family. I think it is about the people you celebrate it with, not how you celebrate it! One of my favourite birthday celebrations was the one just before i had my son, i was about half way through my pregnancy and it was the last birthday i was having before being a mum, so this one stuck, just for that reason. And my recent birthday was lovely, my partner took me out for breakfast at the marina, it was lovely, we walked around, and just had time together, so was very nice. Then we had tea with my family that night, just takeaway at home. But the most important thing was i was with people i love! So just enjoy your birthday, celebrate it how you want to, it is your special day, and enjoy it with the people you love most!

My birthday just comes and goes.we are just the two of us at home so they usual greetings from all my family and some close friends and that's it.Nothing much these days.If other family members are with us we go out for dinner.Ofcourse while I was in school & college it used to alot of fun. What with surprise party being arranged by some friends. It used to be something I used to look forward to.When I finished college I joined up for short term courses.I never knew a soul there.Everyone was totally new.We just got introduced and were chatting up so the topic of birthdays came up and we were all telling our dates. It so happened mine was the first after we joined. I never knew a thing as usual I went to bed.At the stroke of 12 the entire dorm of 25 people switched on the lights and started singing for me.I was shocked. They had planned it so well.We all a big party at 12'o clock. It was areal pleasant sueprise, which i can never forget.

Hi there Made by Robyn! I also like to celebrate my birthday just the way you celebrated your mom's. I like it when it's celebrated with my loved ones, nothing too grand. Happy birthday to your mom!
