is ever late to say sorry

i always wonder if it is ever late in our life to say sorry to people we have offended, like how will you feel if someone offends you and comes out 2 years or 10 years later to say am sorry for what happened the other time, will you willingly accept the apologises.

Saying sorry is not easy for anyone because it's admitting one's fault, and people don't like admiting they were at fault. I'm wondering what I will do if someone I used to be friends with came and said sorry for ending the friendship. The friendship ended about 4 years ago and we've not been in contact since. I think if she apologised to me now, I would find it difficult to accept the apology and carry on. I mean it would be quite awkward after all this time, and perhaps even if I accepted the apology, I might not be able to forget the hurt she caused.
