I always wear my seatbelt and my children are always strapped into correct car seats. I cant think of any disadvantages to wearing a seatbelt but would imagine the advantages to wearing one far out way the disadvantages there might be to wearing it! You could die from smashing into a windscreen, a seatbelt would prevent that im not taking the risk that I might not go through the windscreen id rather be alive with burns and bruising to my chest and whiplash than be comepltley broken when flung through a windscreen!

Where I live, in Canada, it is the law to wear your seat belt. If you don't, and you get caught, it is a $135 fine. I have never gotten a fine but my hubby has. Twice in one day. You would think he would have learned his lesson after getting caught the first time, but no, he still drove without one on that same day and got caught again. So it cost us $270 for his two tickets. He now always wears his seat belt, or at least as far as I know he does.
You say it has it's disadvantages too, but you don't state what you think those disadvantages are. Do you want to share those with us please?

Elderly and bulky people find it uncomfortable to breathe, with seat belt on. In a sudden accident, with great sense of fear and in their anxiety to get out of the car, people struggle with the belt and become a victim, though rarely.
Thank you very much for your response.

In our country, wearing seat belts is mandatory. If you're caught not wearing your seat belt, you will be caught and you'll pay a fine. For me,it's just fine because it is for your safety.I don't see any disadvantage except it may pose a choking hazard when not worn properly but as people who know how to wear seat belts,we should everytime we're on the road and assist others who don't know.

In the state where I live it is the law and I always wear my seatbelt. I am glad that I do since I was in an accident last Oct and I think having my seatbelt on helped to keep me from getting more hurt than I might have since I had a mark on my neck and shoulder from the seat belt.

I sure do. In fact, I will NOT start the car until my husband or any other passenger has theirs on as well. It's a habit I got into when I 1st started driving and just seems to be a good one. Besides, I could get a ticket for someone not wearing a seatbelt in my car, so yeah. I make sure seat belts are worn. Besides, it is just a good safety practice.

I think the law was introduced in Australia in 1971 before I got my first car in 1972.
I have always put my seat belt on. I do it without thinking about it before starting the car.
I would feel unconfortable without it.
To my knowledge... the only people experiencing discomfort from a seat belt are those who are overweight. But that's not the fault of the seat belt.
There is no doubt about the fact that seat belts save lives. It prevents you being thrown out of your seat. And let me tell you that even a small crash at 30 miles per hour will propulse you out of your seat when the car stop abruptly from 30 to 0.
Disadvantages? perhaps...
It prevents you from doing things that you are not supposed to do while driving. Like reaching for something on the back seat.

It is the law here for everyone in the car to buckle up. If you are the passenger in the car and the driver is buckled up you would get the ticket if you did not have a seat belt on. Even if it wasn't the law people should wear their seat belt. Being in a car is dangerous and without a seat belt is really bad. I know someone who was thrown from his car not wearing a seat belt and was killed from it. Left behind a little boy. Sad

wearing seat belt is mandatory in my country. i automatically put on my seat belt when i get into a car. it doesn't matter if i'm the driver or the passenger. i'll put on my seat belt even if i'm in the back. this way i feel so much safer.
i can't really think of any disadvantages of wearing a seat belt. only thing to be cautious is the old type of seat belt for the middle backseat. it's known to cause more damage than the accident itself. it's those that you wear around your waist. there had been instances where the wearer suffered spinal injury. :(

It is the law here that you must wear a seat belt when in a moving vehicle. That doesn't matter to me though because I have always worn a seat belt. I get into the car and on goes the seat belt.

I always wear a seatbelt. It is mandatory, but it wasn't always. The laws have changed a lot in the U.S. since I was a child, and still vary from state to state. My parents drilled into my head that if I am in a car, I must have my seatbelt on. I was not allowed to ride in the back of anyone's station wagon, as there were no seatbelts, even though it was legal then. Even though I am an adult, I still have that in my head.

What you said is true, here in my country wearing seat belt is made mandatory for the safety of the car driver and the passengers as well. I find it is rather ridiculous that most of the car users here to fasten the seatbelt is not for the sake of safety but to avoid being caught and fined by the traffic police

I always wear my seat belt and wore it before it became mandatory. IMO it has no disavantages.

Here in the Philippines wearing seat belt is really a requirement especially if you are seating in front but seating at the back is not that required. For me I like that kind of implementation of the rule wherein of course we would know how to be cautious.

Seat belts are mandatory in Texas and in most other states. I always wear mine, even when just moving the car across the street. This has not always been so. In retrospect, I have often wished that they had been mandatory when my two children were small. That would have made driving with them a lot safer and much more enjoyable. The period of time about which I've been reminiscing would be about 40 years ago. At that time, not only were seat belts not mandatory, they were not even available on most vehicles.
