Should men open doors for women?

The other day whilst shopping in a department store a man opened the door for me, and held it aside for me so step through in the old fashioned gentlemanly fashion. By permitting this did I compromise feminist ideas that it is patronising to a woman when a man opens the door for her? Does it make the her look the weak and helpless little woman?

An man can open any door for me,im sure its a great feeling to have a man who takes care of you,and to have respect for a woman is great too,its always been considered polite to hold the door open for a lady,so why change things now?

That's a gentleman. I wish there are still men like those. It is not patronising and woman should see it as pleasantries. I wish for those days to be back. Respect is a good thing.

I married my boyfriend because he was so old fashioned and opened doors for me, and always paid when we went out for dinner.
I am still married to the same man, it shows kindness & respect for women.
I wish I see more of it today.
