Do you forget to set the timer when baking?

Hello, maddysmommy.
Well, if forgetting to set the timer occasionally means a person is a lousy baker, I guess we are all lousy bakers! That is a bummer that the cookies got burned, but usually, it is possible to salvage a bite or 2 or at least a chocolate chip here and there when that happens. I've always thought baking is much tougher than cooking because it's hard to salvage a baking mistake!
But, maddysmommy, please be comforted in the fact that all of us have burned a batch of cookies at some point in our life. It just makes our future cookies better! Take care.

back in my high school days, i was trying to learn how to bake. i forgot to time my first ever cookies and it burned. my neighbor even knocked on our door and informed my mom that they think our baked cookies/cake (they guessed) were burnt already because they can smell them even up to their house. it's pretty embarrassing... and no one ate my cookies, no one even tried to taste them =(

Awww I know how it feels to burn them for the first time, and the second, and the third and many more after that. We can only keep trying :)

now you make me want to baked a new set of cookies, i am trying not to bake something as much as i can coz i am trying to help my hubby (same goes with me) to lose some weight but now i am kinda wanting some.

I am useless when it comes to baking so everything is "ready to bake" just add butter and egg LOL I can't make them from scratch, even if I tried. I know I shouldn't be eating them either but my son and I started craving for some LOL

hahaha, i cant blame you for wanting 'em they sure are very tasty.
the only brand we love to use for cookies is tollhouse and i just add a few pieces of chocolate chips on it coz he likes it that way.
his dad can eat all of em in just one night so i told him not to bake 'em if dad is around coz i dont want him to have diabetes LOL
i am hoping to learn how to do it on my own coz i like to experiment with foods specially with baking oh well for now i am settling to one that is easy hahaha!
have fun munching your cookies.
good night!

LOL! You poor thing! And that poor first batch of cookies. Don't feel bad at all though. I can't count the number of times I've forgotten to set the timer on the oven or forgotten to hit the start button. I won't call it being a lousy baker at all. I chalk mine up to having 'mommy brain'--too many things on it and not enough time in a day to focus on all of them.

Oh, its not just you! There are times that I forget too. In fact the other day I just burned the bottom of the biscuits so you couldn't eat them, had to eat the top off only. Not so good that way! :-)

Growing up, I thought the only way you got biscuits was with the bottom burned. That and turkey was supposed to be dry and chewy. It wasn't till I got married to my awesome wife that I discovered moist tender turkey and Buns that were actually edible top to bottom.

No i dont think that makes you a bad baker. Just have a brain fart is all you had. LOL around this house we store some stuff in the oven when its not in use. More times then i can remember we have turned on the oven and then remembered there was stuff in the oven. Also a couple times there were plastic bowls with left over halloween candy in them that have totally gotten melted down.
So that doesnt make you a bad baker.

We don't have a timer. I always wanted one. I did have one once but it broke and I never got one again. I never forgot to set the timer when I lived with my mom who has one on her oven.

I never set the timer on anything I cook. I just have a good sense of time I guess and never burn anything.

I forget the timer most of the time. Good thing my guys love burnt foods. They fight over the burned parts of the meatloaf and ham casserole. I just burnt artichokes tonight. They were not tasty IMO, but we are not wasting food here, so I ate mine without complaint. Ok, without outward complaint, but inwardly, I was wishing I had turned the timer on!

Yes , I have and have burnt many batches of cookies . I am now starting to get the hang of the whole timing thing . I was once famous for burning a whole pot rost dinner for not adding water.
