Have you ever sent baked goods through the mail?

I have a friend in LA who LOVES chocolate chip cookies and I was thinking of baking some for her and sending them as a surprise along with a book from one of her favorite authors.
Do you think sending cookies through the mail would be ok? if I packaged it right? has anyone done this before? would it be better to send already made ones as opposed to freshly baked ones? I know they won't be fresh by the time they get there but if I sent it priority mail it might get there in two days?!? what do you think? could this be done? Your thoughts please!

Hmmm I'm not too sure about this one honey! I guess the bought ones would travel ok if they were well packaged but not sure how many pieces they would arrive in! I wanted to send some of my brothers favourite biscuits to him last month and my other half told me I was being really stupid and they woud just be crushed to pieces in the post! I was most upset! xxxx

Awwwww that wasn't nice of him to say it like that. I'm sure like others have said if they were packaged properly then it would get there ok. I am going to try it and will let you know whether it arrived there ok. Thanks mummymo!

I have and what you need to do is make them, packaged them very carefully so they don't crumble. Ship them priority mail. They will reach the destination in 2-3 days and you don't want to ship them on a Friday because they will be sitting in the PO of Sunday if it takes 3 days for them to get to the destination.
Good Luck and you a good friend to want to suprise your friend like that.

I would imagine if you packed them sufficiently for them not to get broken, there would be no problem. You would need a non-crushable container and some packaging around the actual cookies though. It might take the postage costs up a notch or two but would be worthwhile to prevent breakage. They would also have to be packed so that they didn't move about in the container, but I see no reason why you shouldn't mail them.
Brightest Blessings, my friend. x

Thanks Darkwing. I am going to try it as it seems the majority thinks it will be ok as long as I package it properly.

I have not tried that maddysmommy! I hope someone here have tried that and can share to you the experience. I will just suggest, how about searching online a store near her location and order from there to be delivered to your friend's house? Anyway, I appreciate your being kind to your friends! Cheers!

I have sent cookie to Iraq. What I did was to wrap several like 3 or 4 in saran wrap then put them in a crush proof box then add poped corn around them so they don't rattle around the shipping box. When home made cookies get jossled that when they become crumbs. But go for it. The chocolate chip might melt a little bit but if you wrap 3 or 4 together it shouldn't get too bad.

I have sent my step daughter chocolate chip cookies for her birthday a few times. I put them inside a Pringles can and put them in a Priority Mail box. I packed that box with *popcorn*. Popcorn makes the best packing material. If you are sending a book, too don't forget to put it in a ziplock baggie. Sometime the mail people have a way of getting things like that very dirty.

no but i have been on the recieving end of cookies and now i work in a place where they ship radios out and i would suggest wrapping your cookies in the method of your choice to keep them fresh, then wrap them in bubble wrap to prevent them from breaking.

I send baked goods to my husband all the time. He is deployed overseas right now. I love the priority boxes. It's a flat rate to mail up to twenty pounds and it gets there pretty quickly. What I do is put them into a plastic baggie then put the plastic baggie into a tupperware box. It keeps the cookies from getting too broken on the trip over there. Good luck!

Yes I have sent baked goods through the mail. In fact I even sent them overseas to my dad whom was fighting in the Gulf War.
If they are going to be chocolate chip I would keep them cold if not freeze them for a day before mailing since it is summer in most places in the US now. I would priority mail them that way they get there faster.
If you don't freeze them, to keep them fresh longer put a slice of bread in with them. Hope this helps...

hello maddysmommy,
thats very sweet of you to send those to your friend.
anyway, to answer your question.
YES we had an experienced of RECEIVING a baked goods through mail.
my dad-in-law knows how much i love krispy kremes glazed donuts so he will send us couple of boxes every now and then when we are living in beijing.
my husband and i loves it and it is sad that we cannot find it there so dad have to priority mail it for us.
he will buy a fresh baked ones and then wrapped it with cling wrapper and viola ready for shipment and we will have it within 3-4 days.
it is still pretty tasty and i swear i eat a whole box (a dozen donuts) in just a day coz i miss it sometimes LOL.
i think it will be much faster here since she is just in another state so it will be much much fresher so it wont be a problem anyway.
hope that helps you have an idea.
takecare

I think you can send cookies freshly baked via mail, and they will still remain good.
Rap them seperately in bubble rap, but in covered containers and express them. It depends on where you live. Express does the trick. I have expressed cooked food to Baltimore from the Virgin Islands, but I froze it first. It arrived the same afternoon, and when it got to the destination it was good. So you can do it.

I have never sent a bake cake through mail. I guess the best way is to ship it via fedex or ups which is much safer. Or when you ship it you should say whats inside it in the envelope so it won't get crushed by the delivery. Or maybe if you can put it in a well sealed package then I think it's ok for priority mail.

I send home made oatmeal cookies to my son in Iraq. They take over a week to get there and he says they're wonderful.
The first time I sent them, I used throw-away plastic containers and packed them tightly so they can't jostle around. That's all you need to prevent. Pack the cookies so they can't move at all.
I wouldn't send him chocolate chip cookies because of the heat.
I hope this helps a bit. Your friend is fortunate to have you as her friend! You sound compassionate and caring.

Well I haven't done this before, not even ever thought of it. I think mail cookies is OK if you pack it properly so that it won't break into pieces. My friend's mom does this kind of thing quite often actually. Once she sent boiled eggs to my friend by mail!

hi maddy.
no i won't. believe the hype the philippine postal system is pitiful!!! enough of our postal service issues and more about yours.
that's a real nice gesture from you. i think it'll work and sending it as a priority mail will definitely help. try checking door-to-door parcel services about this. they might provide you with tips on how to keep your cookies fresh.
cheers!!!

Well I haven't sent any baked good ever through mail but I think it would not be All right as baked items can retain their freshness only for some time and if u send them by mail it could lead to a fall in their taste. As far as my knowledge is concerned I don't think any one having done so. However if u send athem by priority mail and they can reach them in 2 days then it is OK. This can be done. I think u should do this. If these items reach their in 2 days then their taste will not be hampered
