Do you rate those who respond to your discussions? Do you rate at all?

I am relatively new to Mylot and I am just beginning to learn the ropes. I wondered about unresolved discussions until while experimenting with selecting a best response that discussion no longer appeared as unresolved. Regarding the + or - rating system. I have not had the occasion to check it out fully. Do you rate discussions? What are your criteria for rating? Do you have a group of friends who rate each other plusses (+) and get high ratings? like getting the blue star?

I rate everyone positively + because I know that not all people will have the same thought or idea as you and there will be conflict. Therefore if someone thinks differently from what I think I dont give thema negative rate - it still is positive these other thoughts do make a discussion interesting.

You know what? You're right. Disagreeing is not a negative thing. I like it when people express their thoughts which could be completely opposite to mine, I don't mind rating them +. Cheers!!

I like your attitude and I predict that you will soon have a red or a blue star. Enjoying the mylot experience and having fun seems to be synonymous with success. Cheers!!

I do try and rate everyone. I love to give out the pluses. I dont give negative very often unless they are breaking Mylot rules or just off topic completly. Like the ones who will hit on me hello not the topic people.

I guess you're right, being off-topic is kinda hard to rate with a +. I wonder how that happens, and hitting on you seems off-topic to me. Cheers!!

Iam also completely new and atleast you crossing 1000-1500 posrings and I am just crossed my 100th one.I admire all who are so fast in postings and I do have a question, only by discussions we can gain points?or some other way to?
• Philippines
8 Jun 08
When you start a discussion you do not get any points until someone responds to your discussion. When you respond to other people's discussion you immediately get a point. Uploading photos also get you points. Cheers!! Keep responding!!

As I read the responses in my email. I go to them and give most a +. I have never given a - and probably won't either. Every other day I will go through the discussions I have started and pick the best for "best response".

I have started giving best response too. Usually I wait a little bit until I feel that the discussion is finally over and no new ones are coming in, that's when I choose best response.

Well normally i would give a + to whoever respond in my discussion , unless they offended me in someway or are really rude and copying other people text and paste onto my discussion yea .

That is very inventive of you and it makes sense too, and is a good way of showing your appreciation. I may copy this technique of yours if you don't mind and I may just start with your response which I think is very thoughtful indeed.

I always make it a point to rate discussions as well as responses to my discussions. I wouldn't think twice about giving a "+" for responses that really have substance. It is of course important that the responses are relevant to and are related to the discussion at hand. I tend to do away with giving a "-" unless the response given warrants such.

Bravo!! I have been doing that too. That is good policy and since giving + ratings I feel kind of good inside and I have a feeling that more people are responding too.

Yes, I rate anyone who comes by and comments on my disscussions. Pluses for everyone. I also rate discussions and comments where I've joined in. The onely minuses I would give would be if the person was rude, going against the rules, or posting a comment that had absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Oops. Should be "only" not "onely."

I do hope I never encounter the occasion when I would seriously consider giving a negative (-) rating. I would probably only give it if there is some kind of truly rude and malicious comment.

I do rate everyone who responds to my discussions and everyone who starts a discussion I respond to. I usually rate anybody who gives a really good response I see on a discussion. I think it's only right to read the responses and rate them when someone takes time to respond to my discussion, so long as it is pertinent to what I asked. I have yet to give a negative rating, although I probably should have tonight for someone who spammed a discussion that had nothing to do with the link he spammed. In the future I will. I rate everyone so the question of friends does not apply to me.

In a way I am very conservative about ratings unlike some who aggressively go for ratings by calling on their friends and who by the way are also very aggressive in keeping out the so-called trolls. I have yet to encounter one but, I am digressing. Yours is a very good policy and I wholeheartedly support that. Cheers! And congratulations on your blue star.

I pretty much give all of my responders a +. Never have I given a -. I try to respond to most, at least the first few responders unless they are repeating something another responder said.

It is good to respond to the responses of those who visit your discussions. It seems more than just saying some words. Like you, I tend to give + ratings and I have not given a - yet and I hope I never have to do that. Everyone has been really friendly and helpful.

well i'm also like you new to mylot and i'm so much into posting and responding to discussions that i forget to rate them...i'm also not sure whether it is going to make any difference....i'm totally unaware of the whole purpose of rating discussions..

I have found this to be true, rating makes things easier for you. People respond to you more and you get the feeling of camaraderie as though people enjoy being in your discussions. Speaking strictly from personal experience, of course. Cheers!!

I rate all of the responses in my discussions positively. I also rate discussions I respond to positively. (So those who are looking for blue star should be looking for me.) I don't really have a group of friends who rate each other positively, but I think most of my friends do rate posts positively. That is maybe the reason I got a blue star now. So why do I rate? I rate responses to my discussions positively because they contributed to the quality of my discussions. Why would I rate them negatively? I rate discussions I respond to positively because the reason I respond to that discussion is because I like that discussion. I would just be fair to rate it positively, right?

Sadly, I had an unfortunate introduction to ratings. I read about how ratings were somehow erroneous and there were lots of negative discussions about ratings including one who wanted to be rated minus (-) which I could not understand why. So, I stayed away from it for quite a while.

I had never asked a question because I am still new here. But if someone had responds my discussions,i am sure that I will rate them because it means that you had see their respond to you, then next time they will answer more about your questions.they can feel that you are friendly too.

I have been here for a while but it is only very recently that I began to rate. It does feel good to show your appreciation to those that respond to your discussion in non-verbal ways.

I always respond or rate with pluses, all the time, when I first started in mylot there was no rating system, and when I finally saw the rating system I have been a 9 since forever it had started. I wish I could get to that nice blue star but I am sort of partial to my red star. It is okay, and actually red is my color!!
• Philippines
7 Jun 08
Well, your red star looks nice on you. However, you might find that blue star creeping up behind you. Would you still want the red star back when that happens?

Since I started rating I feel that I have rounded out my participation in the discussions. It's a kind of boost and and unspoken approbation or reprimand. So far, I have never found the need to rate negatively. Everyone has been just wonderful.

I joined myLot two weeks ago and i've only started three discussions, but I have rated the responses to those discussions. I've only given positive ratings so far; I think the negative ratings with be reserved for the trolls and really unnecessarily rude people. As far as i'm concerned, if you take the time to respond to me and your comment is relevant to the topic then you'll get a positive rating from me. I haven't started rating other people's discussions yet though. I, like you, am still learning the ropes.

I think you're learning pretty quick. I only very recently started rating and it is truly an important way to show what you think of people's discussions. I never realized how powerful it could be.
