Just Found Out I Lost My Job :(

United States

So, I was working for a great company and my hours became less and less and I got a call this evening from my boss saying that business was slow and they were cutting my position. Okay, so now what? I don't know what to do anymore. I have tried so many times to make my life better and nothing seems to work. I have two very young children and I am a single mom. We lived in shelters for about a year and I finally just got back on my feet, finished school, and got this job. I GIVE UP.

Latoya, I am sorry about how your feeling because there are days when I want to do likewise especially with high gas prices, salary still the same and a car breaking down every month it seems. Then just two weeks ago, my two jobs went down to one job when my hours from my main job kept interfering with my second job, causing problems so, I am down to one job and you know, since I left the second job, the first one has been letting me off earlier each and every day. hmm.... anyhow, on to you, there is something behind another door for you. I don't know what it is, but if you give up, you will never know what it is. You have young children, whatever you do, keep up your hopes for them if not yourself. A great book to check out, "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale. You should also be eligible for unemployment as well. Check into it and see what openings are coming available at the local State Careers Office(or Employment Office for those who don't know). Keep in prayer and keep in touch here. I wish you nothing but the best.

Oh, no don't give up. We have all been there before. Some more than once. Try and keep it together. I know it is hard. If you have to fake it. It will get better with time. I am so sorry this happened. www.genuinejobs.com This site has work from home jobs. GO to your local unemployment office. They should have people there that can assist you. Hang in there.

awww, that is so horrible. I know times are tough but you know what, you were able to get back on your feet once, you can do it again! you found that job, you can find another one. don't let this keep you down. keep a positive attitude and KNOW that there is something out there for you. something that will pay more and that you will like even more. don't give up, you can't. you have those kids to think about. I know you can and will do it. keep a smile on your face and keep your head up. everything will work out.

Dear Latoya, sad to hear that. You have already been made great efforts for the education. Right now it is just another temporary setback. Know your pressure because of the children. Don't give up. You have the support from many mylotters.

Hey there - how you doing today? Your post made me go cold! I guess there are lots of people in the US in your position at the moment - it must be really scary for you. Do you have any family who could help you out, perhaps with a place to stay or something? What sort of work do you do? You are obviously computer literate - do you have any admin skills? What about trying to set yourself up as a Virtual PA - that way you could work from home, no gas costs to get to work, and it would cost your employer less than having to have someone in the office - win, win all round. Good luck, stay strong and you will get through the bad times. They are sent to try us. A very wise lady once told me 'God never gives us anything we can't cope with!' Granted, the situation was different, but it works nonetheless. Stay strong. Violetdreamslingerie.co.uk

don't you dare give up. this is just one learning lesson you have to deal with, and the lesson is to deal with this current situation with your head held high. with the faith of knowing everything will work out. the way you react to a situation is how you get new situations. so you don't give up. don't you ever give up. if you got this job you will get another. you have to know it to be so, and then make it happen. i have been there, i have been there a few times. so i am not just talking sh*t. i am telling you, don't see this as the worst thing that is happening, but as a new situation that can change your life for the better. hold your head honey, and have faith.

Awww... don't give up yet latoyahall. There are many opportunities out there waiting for you to grab them. I am sure there are ways to get by. First of all, go through your work contract to see if you are entitled to any compensation from your company. Then start looking out for a new job. Mean while, if you are good with your hands, start sewing or making some craft to see if you can hawk it on the net or at touristy places. If not, if you are good with your knowledge, give tuition. I have friends who quit their day job to give tuition to students who are looking to supplement their learning by having a tuition teacher go thru their curriculum to re-enforce what they have learn. Lots of opportunities... don't give up.

Never give up! I am also a single mom like you. I attended interview four times to get my present job. I have lost jobs countless times and I never give up as I have to support myself and my child. It is better to do bussiness as we we don't have to worry about losing jobs. As for me I am learning on how to make money online and you can try that too if you are interested. Beware of scams and never give up!

I know exactly what you are going through. I have recently had the same problem and am going through this also. Register with your local employment agency, keep checking your local newspapers especially on the weekends, and just get your name out there to people. Best of luck, keep us posted on your success! Thoughts and prayers are with you and your children.

cheer up! it is not the end of the world. being fired is quite normal nowadays. just keep on, trust you can find another job soon. my suggestion is that you do not need to let your colleagues to know your situation (say, 2 babies, single mom, etc.) in the office. otherwise, maybe some bosses will leave you more tasks to handle. best wishes

If you are full time, you should get unemployment. Please don't give up! Call the unemployment office. If you don't qualify, or even if you do, call 211, like 911 but with a 2. Tell them you lost your job and are needing help. They should give you referrals for food, medicine, etc. There are other jobs out there!!!!!!!
