How good are you in affiliate marketing?

I am an affiliate of a popular dating site since last month. I started out quite well, I now have $36 in my account in less than a month.I'm waiting for it to reach the payout of $50. However, nowadays, membership is not that active because I only posted the site in a referral exchange and I think it's not that effective with affiliate marketing. What about you,what's your experience in affiliate marketing?
