im niece is 2 years of age. she's very close to me, since most of the time im the one who is looking after her.
she just got from the hospital. my brother told me that she always cried when she sees the nurses coming at their room. especially when she saw a scissors and a micropore tape!
this is the usual trauma a child can get when they get hospitalized. they fear all the people they see that wears white uniform. just curios of what will happen. i tried wearing my uniform and get my scissors and i called my niece. when she saw me, she cried and run to her mom! i called her name and said that it was just me. but still she didn't come near to me. and when i take off my uniform, and called her. she hugged me and cried!

In my area (Austin, Texas) nurses wear charmingly decorative scrubs instead of the old uniform. Many are even made with cartoons or other childlike designs, & I'm sure it must make kids feel a LITTLE better, at least.
I have 2 aunts who were nurses, & they hated those stiff, prim uniforms. The scrubs are much looser & more practical.
I was TERRIFIED of medstaff as a child. I had a very low threshhold of pain, & when I got a shot, it felt like a hot NAIL was being rammed into me! I screamed & hid, but it never did any good. When I'm in a hospital now, it grieves me to hear the children cry. I KNOW how it feels! I always ask God to soothe them.
Now, my tolerance for pain is MUCH higher -- heck, I even give myself injections now, though the needles are TINY. Still hurts a little, sometimes, but it's a FAR cry (no pun intended) from the pain ANY needle gave me as a child!

wow! That is sad, I wish she will overcome that trauma! Maybe tell her as story with pictures about nurses and how they help kids. How they heal kids, something like that and later own, ask her to wear all white...ANything that you can think to eliminate her bad thoughts towards medicines and medical people!

Awwww. she was still scared of you also until you took off your uniform. Maybe that will help her get over her fear of hospitals and nurses. I would have felt so sorry for her also if she cried being afraid of who was in the uniform. I'm glad you showed her who it was.

i pity he. things like that always happen, especially on kids. they think that everybody wearing the same clothes will hurt them. i think, she will get over it, because she still so young. she will forget the memory and she will overcome from the trauma. the best thing you can do for now is to shoe her that she is well loved and protected.

My daughter had asthma and had to be in the hospital. (She's grown now? But then she was 2.) After..even when we were on the streets, in a store, etc..whenever she saw a person even in a white shirt she'd start to cry!
It does get better over time. And it will for your niece, also. (As she is reassured she will not need another hospital visit.)
If she does need to see a doctor, ask them to kindly, before they see the child, to take off the white coat and leave it in another room. And do not use the name "doctor." It will help a bit. Ask the nurses to avod white for a while when your child is coming in. Most are happy to help.
She'll outgrow her fears. Sadly..sometimes a child needs hospital care? If the care can be givin at home..it's a better place for the child to be treated. but if the hospital is ABSOLITELY needed..juts ask them if they'd mind terribly not wearing white? They'll understand.
