Ovarian Cyst the size of a volleyball.........

Has anyone had an ovarian cyst removed? The reason I ask is my daughter found out 2 months ago she was pregnant. Then about a month ago she woke up to her bed being wet. Then when she stood up she started leaking fluid. She went to the hospital because she thought she was losing the baby. They did an ultasound and found she had a cyst on her ovary about 13 cm. They said the baby was fine but she needed to keep an eye on the cyst. And that she needed to see her doctor when she got back in her hometown(she's a trucker driver). So she was home a couple of weeks ago and tried to get in to her doctor. They told her she could wait until her 1st assigned doctors appt, which isn't until the end of this month. Well Thursday she woke up in pain. Her husband calls an ambulance and they took her to the hospital. They did another ultrasound and it had grown another 1 1/2 inches. They couldn't believe the size of this cyst. They did surgery and took out a cyst the size of a volleyball. She was in Georgia at this time driving a semi. The doctor said the baby is fine and she should beable to carry on with the pregnancy w/o anymore problems. She was released today and is suppose to be back home in a couple of days from Georgia. And she is giving up truck driving at least until the baby is born. Can you believe a doctor would let this thing get that big? Especially when a life is at risk. I told my daughter to give her doctor an ear full when she gets home.

Firstly glad to hear that your daughter is going to stop driving now through the prenancy and that all is well with her and the baby. The thing is with ovarian cysts some grow but others will just disperse on their own so they are difficult to judge but being pregnant I feel that your daughters doctor should have monitored more closely. A friend of mine had one removed that weighed 51/2lbs which is the size of some new born babies. Ellie :D

Hi Olivemai, don't get me started on the receptionists some of them seem to think they are the doctors and to try and get an appointment with my GP in almost impossible. I know the doctors are busy but even so I am usually better by the time I get to see one. LOL. Ellie :D

I hear ya. My daughter lost 15lbs after they removed the cyst. She gave birth to 2 babies with this thing. I'm with you all on the doctor should have been more concerned with her being pregnant. It had to be crowding out the baby. The baby is probably partying now that he/she has room to move....LOL

My baby was about a year old when I was found to have an ovarian cyst. My was about the size of a grape fruit. It was very painful when i discovered It. I thought my appendix had ruptured. any way I went to the DR and he put me in the hospital to have it removed. I had a friend that had one the size of a baby. The Dr insisted she was pregnant but she knew she hadn't done any thing to get pregnant. It took her a while to convince the Dr though. That was close to 40 years ago and it was much easier to get into see the Dr.s back then.

The cyst she had twisted her ovary. They said it looked like a twizzler. Thanks for the information. I'm going to pass it on to my daughter.

I am surprised the dr let her go on without doing anything! I am glad to hear your daughter is ok now and the baby is doing fine. I bet they will keep a close eye on her pregnancy since she had to have surgery.
To answer your question:
I am going through test right now. They think I have one and I am waiting for a phone call for my appointment for an ultrasound. I got my pap results today and she told me I had A-typical cells which sometimes is an indication of cancer, so I am a bit nervous now, but am trying not to be. She said I have to have another pap done in 4 months (October), but I guess if the ultrasound shows a cyst, they will operate or do what they need to do and hopefully all will be ok with me.
Best wishes for your daughter and an easy delivery to a healthy baby.

I hope they will keep a better check on her now. I hope everything will be fine will you also. The same daughter got a pap test back about 4 years ago with postive results. She went through extra testing and come to find out she had an infection that caused the test to read postive. Nothing major at that time. So hopefully its nothing for you also. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. keep thinking postive. SMILES

Wow. that is unreal to have something that big growing and the doctor did nothing about it at the time. there are alot of quacks out there. I am glad that she is okay now. I hope the baby will be fine also. I wander what caused the cyst on her ovary and I just wander how long it has been there and growing? I know when I was pregnant and my water broke, my regular doctor was not in. The doctor that was on call told me to go to bed. You and mom said no and took me to the hospital and I went into labor. Quacks get on my nerves.

LOL. Yep. You could. I think I have something going on inside of my body also but we don't have insurance. I could just be getting fatter LOL. As long as I feel okay, I avoid going to the doctor because of the dang bill you get afterwards. I'm glad they found it and successfully removed it from her. She is lucky. I'm glad she is okay now.

She didn't know how long it been growing there. But it grew 1 1/2 inches in 3 weeks. I talked to her today and she had lost about 15 pounds from the surgery. I asked what causes them and she forgot what the doctor said. I agree there are some just in it to make a dollar. They could care less if you die or live.....Yeah in your case I could have delivered "A" myself since I had just been through it.....LOL

OMG! I cannot believe that her doctor said she could wait until her first appointment! That is just horrible. I really think that she should change doctors. How could a doctor do that when a woman is pregnant? I am glad that she and the baby are ok, and I wish you all nothing but the best. I am glad that she is stopping driving the truck until after the baby arrives. I would seriously change doctors though. That is just unacceptable on his part.

I feel the same way on her changing doctors. All I can do is give my opinion and advice. Its all up to her on what she does.

All we could come up with is her insurance wasn't in affect yet. I guess they wasn't thinking about a lawsuit.

Well she is 2 months pregnant and hasn't yet seen her doctor. First appt with him is the end of this month. Wouldn't get her in any sooner knowing she had this cyst. She went to some hospital in Florida 3 weeks ago where they found it. They again in Georgia where they did the surgery. She lives in Kentucky.

Yeah we are very happy nothing serious happened. The doctor at the first hospital told her all that could happen if it continued to grow. Thats why he told her to see her doctor here at home. But the fool wouldn't get her in. He better be glad nothing happened to the baby. I'm going to try and talk her into seeing someone else. Heck who knows if he will be there when its time to deliver.

Sounds like she needs another doctor! I sure wouldn't want to continue through a pregnancy with him.
My granddaughter had an ovarian cyst burst while she was waiting weeks to see a doctor. She was in incredible pain. But she lives in Canada where the "free" medical care creates waiting lists that are miles long.
I hope her pregnancy will now be easy and healthy. Is this your first grandchild?
Best of luck to all.

When I was pregnant with my first daughter they found a cyst on my ovaries but it was small they said they would watch it but wasn't really worried about it. They next time I had an ultrasound it was gone so I guess its just some they have to watch more closely then others. Sorry she had to go through all of that congrats on her being pregnant how exciting and its good that she is giving up truck driving to take care of herself and the baby.

I'm glad to hear yours went away and they had the sense to keep an eye on it. They were hoping my daughters would go a way. But from what I understand it was already huge. Thanks and we're hoping for a girl this time.

It sounds like she has really been through the mill. It is really bad that it was left to get that bad before they did something about it. It could have ended up being really bad for her and the baby, but thank goodness everything is OK.
She just needs to take it easy now for a while. It is amazing what they can do now though in terms of operations when someone is pregnant, I think it is brilliant that they were able to do that surgery while there was a baby inside her! I hope she makes a really fast recovery.

That is aweful and not right what the doctor did. She should have been seen right away not have her wait and being pregnant at the same time. With situations like these you need to get immediate attention not to let it go unattended like that doctor did. I don't think he deserves to be a doctor if this is how he is going to be w/ any of his paitence he should be terminated for good. I hope everything goes ok the resat of the pregnancy for her and she dosn't have any complications. I wish her and the baby the best of luck and god bless.

No I haven't heard of that. I'm thinking that maybe what caused my daughters. She was on the shot(DEPO) then she switched to the pill. I believe she got pregnant on the pill.

Wow, I can only imagine how scary that must have been for all of you! My sister is currently pregnant, and even just the smallest things make me worry about her and the baby. I'm so glad to hear that your daughter and her baby are doing ok. I can't imagine a cyst so huge! Thank goodness they were able to get it removed safely. I can't believe that her doctor would be so careless with her condition! That just sounds incredibly irresponsible of him. I think if it was me, I would be looking to switch doctors! I hope your daughter will continue to recover nicely and have a healthy pregnancy!

Wow that's amazing! I can't believe that something such as an ovarian cyst can get that big. I had one as a teen and it ruptured caused problems that sort of stuff. I'm glad to hear she is ok! Good luck! Hope the rest of the pregnancy is uneventful!

How aweful. No, the doctor shouldn't hve allowed the thing to go unnoticed and shuld have suggested it be removed early on. Had she just ignored the pain who knows how much worse it could have gotten. I think the child is extremely lucky to have gone unharmed or even untouched by the infection and not adpopted that his/her - self.

I hope your daughter's baby will be healthy after this ordeal. I am amazed at your daughter's stamina and she never gave up for her baby. This may be considered as a negligence on the doctor's part. They should have done something that will not put the baby's life at risk. Imagine what could have happened *shudder*. I hope your daughter will stay healthy all throughout her pregnancy.

We are hoping they will be also. She had a hard time getting her husband to agree to have another baby and her friend just lost a baby. I believe it would have hurt her bad if something happened. We can just Thank God everything came out just fine.
Thanks!
