Unresolved Discussions - How Good (or Bad) are you?

I'm in the process of resolving discussions (i.e. placing Best Responses) and I started this after seeing a couple of discussions and seeing one of my oldest discussions come back to the top...unresolved. I didn't mean to leave them unresolved, as I'm usually responding far more than starting my own discussions.
Its easy to lose track of discussions on my end, but how much time do you take to resolve discussions? Are you any better at it than I am? The same? Or are you even worse than I am in resolving discussions? Keep in mind, the discussions I'm finding are several (6, 7, 8) months old. -_-
A bit embarassing but I justify with all the best responses and other responses towards assisting people here.

I never let mine get older than 4 weeks. I figure this is long enough to get most of the responses I need to decide on a best response.

Your skill in this is rather impressive!
Hopefully when its all said and done I could do something like this. Ah who am I kidding. I'd probably mess up and end up back at square one just a few months after.

Howdy Pro, I don't even try and resolve mine until they are about 6 months old. i have found that when I do it earlier some one will come along and give me an even better response. There are some discussions I have had that I knew there was not going to be a better response because someone had hit the nail right on the head, those I resolve straight away, but most of the time I let them bide time.

Sounds like a good figure. But I've been lax anytime I tried that. I have plenty I said would be 5 or 6 months until BR, and it turned to 8 or 9 months.
At least no one can say we assign BRs too quickly!

Hello theprogamer,
I can't beat your record..LOL, I had just giving my BR to the deserving members last week and those topics were posted 3 months ago..LOL, Honestly, I never knew how to resolve those until I bump a topic talking about it and give me an idea! thanks for that post! Cheers!

I rarely get other members bumping my topics, but its happened. That's also reminded me to resolve the discussion. Of course if it already has BR attached to it, its never bumped back to the top after a few months time or so. Interesting, but completely understandable.

I'm as bad as you, I'm afraid! I go in spurts, now and then for some unknown reason I'll go through and resolve a bunch of my discussions until something distracts me from that task, sometimes an old discussions will come back up, as you said, and that will remind me to get to it and a few months ago my friend here, Grandpa Bob had posted about how he'd finally resolved all of his discussions except for his most recent ones and that inspired me to try to get mine done - but, they're still not done! We're not alone in this, Pro, because now and then I'll see I got a BR and when I go to it I find it was from months ago so others do it too! I guess I'll go get some resolved right now, until something else catches my eye...lol!

That response sums it up in a nutshell. Even though I don't start many discussions, it seems like the amount in need of resolution is limitless.
I forgot about that one factoid though Annie. I too get BRs from several months ago and that reminds me to resolve a few discussions. Of course, any outstanding discussion or response could pull me away from my resolution task.

I have only 6 discussions that still has no Best response. And one of them is 11 months old!Well, I have a very valid reason for this.It only has one response and I'm still waiting for someone to come along and give an answer so I can have a comparison.
The only time that I had a pile of unresolved discussions was when I was a newbie. I didn't know what the "unresolved discussions" was for. Now, whenever I post a discussion, I try to choose the best answer when there's more than 10 who have responded. Most likely, I can already choose the best one. But there were times that I waited for more responses because the ones who have already shared their views didn't really come close to the answer I was looking for.

So thats a third person to check discussions for. I'll see what I can do, but please be patient. There is also a chance the discussions may not suit me.
I have to admit I have trouble with single response discussions. If its way too old for a discussion and it doesn't seem like anyone else will answer I'll bite the bullet. I did make the mistake of this with a simpler discussion though, I'll avoid that in the future.

excuse my ignorance, i guess i might know the answer to my question if i had spent a bit more time reading the FAQ or finding out evere little detail about mylot, but what are unresolved discussions?
is there a need to resolve the discussions you open?
i haven't noticed any difference among the discussions i've read or responded to so far...
thank's for the help

Any discussion you start is an unresolved discussion. The discussion is "resolved" when you choose a best response for it. Then its removed from the unresolved discussion list.

I did notice that. At first I didn't pay attention, but then it looked funny and I saw it. Maybe there is something to the star rating we might have overlooked. Its too bad the BR thing doesn't work on my end. I've got hundreds of them... and a nice 67% F grade star for it. Ah well.

I almost feel "new interest group" from this response and the subject overall. Maybe... it could help some of us "horrid" non resolving members!

I am trying to do the same thing. Unfortunately, I have several that are a year old and have no responses. I also have a few with noncontributory responses if you know what I mean. If the response is halfway decent and has something to do with my actual discussion, I am marking best responses. When I started my crusade, I had 14 pages of unresolved discussions. I am proudly down to 3.
PS. I love your avatar!

I'll have to check those discussions out then.
Ah, and thanks for the positive vote about my avatar. Probably one of the best ones yet.

Well I will say that I have pages and pages of discussions that I have to resolve at last count I think I have 5 pages I'm going to really have to plan a day to resolve these discussions. LOL! I would have to say I'm worse than you I might not have them from 6-8 months ago but I start a lot of discussion so you would think after a week I would just simply pick a best response but no I just let them pile up and up and up. LOL!!

It probably doesn't help that I keep bringing up a very certain discussion of yours, which probably throws off your efforts in this matter. ;p

I have some discussions that just have one or two responses in that case it seems kind of silly to issue a best response. If you have one response obviously that is the best one. I dont know if I will ever mark those.

That's understandable. Other members feel the same way. Hopefully you do get some responses to help your BR process.

I'm somewhere in the middle. Sometimes I forget to resolve them and sometimes I don't. It just depends on what is going on with the discussions and how interesting they are for that day. I usually resolve them when there isn't much going on.

But that's the thing with my mylotting. There is so much I can answer and despite quality there are plenty of discussions I respond to. A whole variety. Boredom barely sets in, and if it does, its really exhaustion from the whole mylotting process. I find I have to remind myself or drive myself to solve discussions. Of course some resolutions happen naturally based on what's been written by the other members.

Well, I've got 8 pages of unresolved discussions. It's hard for me to decide who to give the best response to. Oftentimes, I only get 1 or 2 responses to one of my discussions because they aren't really popular here or the two responses I have aren't relevant enough to merit such. It's a tough decision, sometimes.

Same here for some of my discussions. I think many of my resolved discussions only had 10 or less in terms of responses (some had one or two).
And there are a few times choosing a BR is a tough decision even with my various criteria.

I go on these sprees twice a month when I select the best responses in bulk! Its fun actually - I get to re-read all the responses and feel enlightened!

I feel that way sometimes. I found a gem I forgot I had as a discussion. It was great seeing it once more, but like several discussions it was esoteric resulting in the low response number and subsequent "burial". Still great seeing the older discussions either way. Something might have been missed too.

Me, i have so many unresolved discussion. I am more bad than you think of yourself. I used this discussion to say sorry for those members who gladly reply to my post and haven't received their ratings or best response. I am so busy that i can just log in to mylot and reply to my friends post like you. I have no time to do a discussion of my own since i have so many unresolved discussion. There will be a time that i can finished my discussion.

I'm sure people aren't that worried and are just fine with it. Everyone has their own style with BRs and mylotting Grecy. Don't worry too much about the whole thing.

Mmm hmm. I too set aside time to resolve, but I have to push myself to do it.
You are welcome for the BRs. You answered many of them, only a few or no other members joined in, you earned the BRs.

I always wait a while before making my best response
choice as I want people to have achance first to
read my discussion. then after a couple of months
I will start giving my best responses. I am always
a bit behind but I do get there eventually.

Its good to wait awhile, but on my end "awhile" turns to a couple months... then a few... then several.
At times I'm reminded to give more time when I see other members giving best responses within hours.
