What kind of food makes you feel sick? Which foods do you avoid?

What type of foods make you sick? Do some food smells make you queezy to your stomach? Have you ever gotten food poisoning from food, before? Sunday, I ate Italian seasoned turkey tacos. Ordinarily, I don't have a problem with ground turkey. But, I had a major problem with the Italian seasoned variety. I think I gave myself a mild case of food poisoning. I can't be sure. I went to sleep shortly after eating the food, because I couldn't stand to be awake anymore. Every time I stood up and tried to walk, I was sure I was going to be sick everywhere. That's a really weird reaction to have over food. I don't know what was wrong with the food, but there was definitely something not right. Maybe it was the smell of strong spices that turned my stomach. Years ago, I ate Chinese food and had a similar reaction. It had a very strong odor as well. I'm very sensitive to smells. Any type of food that has a strong smell makes me feel queezy. When I was pregnant, the smell of Italian season tomato paste made me ill, too. I should have thrown the whole batch of raw ground turkey away when I first got it. I knew something was going to be wrong with it.

I've never suffered food poisoning, touch wood, but there are a couple of foods I just can't abide, in this country. The first is tripe... yuck, that's the worst thing ever and if you don't know what it's made from, you might like to look it up, as I don't have the stomach to talk about it. The second is black pudding, which is made from pig blood. Yuck, yuck, and double yuck. In the north of the country, this is served with a full English Breakfast, and I just can't abide it! Brightest Blessings.

OK! You win! Gross and double gross. Pig's blood! That has to be unsanitary and you know how I am about germs. You've read the posts.

Strange as it might sound, it is eaten quite widely in the north of the country. Some people just love it, and I never heard of any germ-related illness being caused by black pudding. It would only harm somebody if you hit them over the head with it! lol. I just hate the taste. I tried it again recently because I got it with my breakfast, but I couldn't stomach it. It had to go back!!! Never again, my friend.

*Giggle* I can just imagine a bludgeoning with pudding. How would they prosecute such a case! LOL! I am sure it's OK since it's cooked. The thought does make me queezy.

For me, it is oily foods. I am not used to eating a lot of oil because growing up, my parents always refused to cook with oil because it ruins your kitchen and leaves smells that you can't get out. So we never had fried food unless we went out to eat. So once I had learned to cook, I did learn to fry things. If I ate a few, it was okay. But once I made onion rings and basically that was all I had for dinner, tons and tons of onion rings since I made so many. It did not go over well, they all came back up shortly after. And onion rings do not taste good on their way back.

Oh wow! That must have been really horrible. I don't think it could be food poisoning that fast, but it could have been a reaction to something in the soup. Or just some nasty cooking. ;) Wow, that story makes me not want to have kids. LOL

Oh, that sounds bad! I have been there. Once I ate too much soup when I was a kid. And, then followed up with a big BIG glass of water. It refunded on my mom's kitchen floor. I just kept getting sick over and over again. Someone had to just come up and take me away from the kitchen, because the sickness refused to stop. My mom was not the best cook, did I mention that part? It was probably food poisioning.

I do not feel sick from any foods but I have to avoid many foods as if I eat them then I get really bad tummy ache, bloating and feeling tired. Things that set me off are bread, onions, tomatoes, lamb, pork, curry, certain crisps, chocolate in large amounts, certain vegetables, pasta, pizza in large amounts, basically lots of things! I just have to be really really careful what I eat and so as a result cannot eat large meals either as that sets it off too, mealtimes for me can be extremely awkward!

I work in a resort and we have a lot of different cuisine, being in this job is like tasting a lot of food too. I have travelled as well and been exposed to many different food. As much as I would like to explore food, however everytime I eat anything with spice stomach cannot take it. Sometimes, I get spots but most of the time I run to the loo all the time. So I avoid anything with chili and anything hot and very spicy.

When I was pregnant I could not eat anything I cooked. After smelling it cook, I could not eat it. Every now and then I get that reaction again to chicken. Also, I am having a hard time eating thyme now. I wonder if it has anything to do with your reaction to Italian flavor......

I am severly Lactose Intolerant, so of course daily and milk products make me sick as a dog. But regular foods like that smell and taste of mayonaise does the trick too. The cooking smell of ground beef will send me to the bed. I have had food poisioning, and it was from potatoe salad that have been left out too long and I didn't know. I don't think that I have ever been so sick in my life. I would'nt wish that feeling on my worst enemy. From that day forward, I only eat my potato and that of my best friend. We have always prided ourselves on our clean, sanitary, and safe cooking preparations for our family and friends. I love the saying, "When in doubt, throw it out!"

Your stomach may just be really sensitive to spices. It may not have been the meat itself. You might have colitis or something. Have you ever been tested? As for me, there are meats that make me gag because they smell so bad when cooked and, they don't taste any better either. The first and worst is Liver. Ugh! My mom cooked it once when I was young. I knew something disgusting was being prepared in that kitchen because my Mom is a really great cook. So, that smell tipped me off. I asked her if she was making liver and she denied it and said it was beef and that I would like it! I was young but not stupid. When something smells like it could come from the bottom of a dogs tongue, it is going to taste like it could come from the bottom of a dogs tongue. So, I put one piece in my mouth and, before I could even get done with one full chew, I gagged and, that was that! No more! Never again! I ate the veggies and my Mom wouldn't push the issue because forcing someone to gag their food down is torturous and wrong. And, the same thing happens with other less common meats like sheep, duck, elk and deer. If it isn't chicken, cow or pork, I can't stand it. All of those other meats have a gross taste like they were rolled in poo for seasoning! Nope! I'll eat my own feet before I eat that stuff ever again! LOL!

I am suffering from anaphylaxis now. I ate 2 little pieces of beef the day before yesterday, but the severe itch still continues. Similar to beef, whenever I eat lobster, shrimp, mango, anaphylaxis action will come up soon.

I've never had food poisoning, but there are some foods that I can't eat. I'm allergic (or at least can't tolerate) mayonaise or pineapples. I could care less about the mayo, but do I ever miss fresh pineapple. When I was pregnant everything made me sick, but the worst was the smell of broccoli cooking. Yuck and double yuck!

I don't avoid a lot of foods. I'm an eating freak and eating has become a passion for me. But I do avoid a drink though. I've avoided it since I was able to distinguish it from water. Milk. I hate milk! Drinking milk makes me feel sick with that icky taste while you let it go down in the throat! Not that its not healthy. I just really hate milk.
