It was said many times before but I will repeat it for you :).
Stars are increasing when someone hits this little "+" next to your post. When someone hits "-" it will go down. It's connected with earnings. 10 is the best star and 1 is the worst.
Cheers.
(you have + from me, hehe)

thanks for taking your time to explain zergonipal. I appreciate it. I guess then if you have a lot of friends here and join your discussions, they would help you improve your rating by hitting the + for you. Have a great day!

Of course the star rating is about the quality of your posts but I have to say that having friends who actively rates discussions and responses helps improve your star rating. I, for one, always rate all of the responses in my discussions positively. I also am starting to rate all discussions I respond to positively. So, I think it would depend on the type of friends you have.

I don't think it's the amount of friends that improved your raiting, rather it's the quality of the discussions you start, and te responses that you make. People rate you individually based on what they think of your writing, whether they're connected to you, or not.

Most of this has already been stated, but it is true. The number of friends doesn't improve your rating...but having lots of friends, particularly ones that will mark that plus sign does.
Every time I start a discussion, whether I agree with the responder or not, if they have given me a good opinion...they get a star.
I also rate those that comment with a star...it just takes a second and means so much!
Oh, and here is yours!

thanks ladyljs for that explanation. It would really help of you have a lot of friends but it will all depends on the quality of discussion and response that you make. Of course, a friend wouldn't just rate his/her friends response because he/she's a friend, but on the quality of response made. have a great day!

TO get a higher star rating you need to post quality posts and these quality posts should get rated. The higher the number of + ratings higher will be the rank.
Lot of friends in mylot maynot necessarily increase the ratings. I think everyone rates good posts whether the author is a friend or not.

Well I think is some sense it does help. If you have lots of friend they may increase your rating since they would always put a + on your post but in my experience it is not a foolproof but a theory only. I think just continue on posting and get more friends they may come in handy when you post and gets their attention.

It depends. I've seen so many weird things about the star sham, but I've been through enough. I have plenty of friends on list but my star rating has been destroyed three different times. Just having friends doesn't cut it. Having top quality responses and discussions doesn't do it either, keep that in mind too.
However, if you participate in mylot and participate well, your REAL reputation will improve and you'll get friends, allies, rivals, social and intellectual equals... all in time.
