I am going to take Swimming lessons, am I too old? And I hear it is good excerise. I remember being in School we had to take Swimming lesson, I was so terrified of water, thought I would drown. I acually got a D in Gym. I do want to learn, I did learn how to breath under water. and I did the back strokes, that was all I knew.

No you are not too old for that... and you are not old as you think of yourself. Pls do try that swimming lesson because it is really a good and fun way to exercise. You know what, you are far more better than me. All I know is freestyle. No more and no less.

I can swim as long as I am in water that is not over my head, Get me in water over my head and I get scared. I almost drowned when I was a kid. I love to swim, it is great excercise. I do that back stroke lots better then I can swim face forward. I am not a strong swimmer neither, Marcie, you are never too old to learn anything. Good luck with the swim lessons, I think its a great idea.

Oh, I would also love to learn to swim myself. I grew up near the sea but I'm afraid of water. I have tried it several times to learn how to swim but 4 times I almost drowned and it was enough to scare me. Well, I haven't given up on it. I'm in my thirties and I'm still hoping or dreaming that one day I would be able to swim.

Marcia, No you are not too old to learn how to swim. You are never too old.I learned when I was a child, after I nearly drowned, it was very scarey for me too, but I so much wanted to swim.I am very glad I did. It is very good exercise for you, as a matter of fact it is the only exercise I can get at all right now because my back is so bad, the water takes the weight off of your body, there are a lot of exercises you can do in the water other than swimming. You can learn to swim in water that is really not even over your head. You will not drown, you will have instructer there. As hot as it is, the pool is so refreshing, and cool. It feels so very good it the pool.

I think that a human can't be too old for any kind of teaching. A lot of people are starting to learn swim in their 20-ties, 30-ties... once I've even saw an old man that was going on the swimming lessons. You shouldn't be afraid of water too, couse you are going to learn on the pool, right? There's lifeguards everywhere and you just can't drown even if you would like to. Swimming is really cool, especially when you finally know how. Cheers and be brave.

You are not to old to learn how to swim. Isn't that why they have adult swim classes? I can swim and have been since I was young. My parents signed me up for lessons. I have a 7 month old and can't wait to teach her.

I use to be an excellent swimmer when I was a teenager..I was a VERY active and healthy girl though (danced, walked, biked, swam, was a runner and so on) and I can still swim but not nearly as well as I use to by any means.. I dont think you are too old at all Marcia..I think that its a great thing for you to do for a few reasons..It IS very good exercise for starters, its fun and it is a great way to spend time plus it never hurts to know how to at least swim a little bit ya know.... good for you!! thats fabulous!

I say go for it! You're never too old to start learning something you're passionate about. Just take it one step at a time, and gradually move forward as you get more confident and less scared and see how you do. (And don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't do something just because of your age - many people who start things "late" go into it with that mentality and they never reach their full potential.) Best of luck to you!

I wish that I knew how to swim Marcia. I am very scared of the water and have never been able to learn how. I don't know why I'm so afraid of it, I have never had any type of traumatic experience to cause this. It is just one of my quirks I guess LOL. I'm proud of you for taking the lessons. :)

I've never learned. I took lessons about 3 times as a kid, but never completed the lessons because we'd go on vacation or something. When I was in high school, we moved and I had to take swimming. In fact, in order to graduate, I had to pass swimming. I learned, though, that I only had to make it from the deep end to the shallow. I didn't really have to swim - although that's what most people would do. :-) I jumped into the deep end (knowing that I would bounce back up), reached for the side of the pool and made my way to the shallow end. I got a D and was able to graduate. I don't think you're ever too old to learn...if you want to. I guess I never wanted to. Too scared after being thrown into a pool in the deep end when I was just a small kid.

Yes I can swim. From where I was 5 years old when my parents moved to new house that a medium sized swimming pool was already built. I first learned to swim at my own home right after I moved in. I swam like almost everyday because I like to throw myself into water. At 17, my parents moved again to a bigger house with even little bigger swimming pool. All excitement of swimming ended at 2007 when my father decided to sell that house and moved into medium sized house without a swimming pool. I guess I can call myself a lucky man that have lived in two houses with swimming pool.

No, I can't swim yet. But I am planning on taking lessons soon as I plan on buying a home that has a swimming pool. I once almost drowned at the beach when I was 8 years old. I made the mistake of turning my back on the ocean and it went over my head and dragged me in. All I could see what swirling water and the salt and sand got in my eyes. When I tried to scream the water went down my throat. That scared me so bad that for a long time I didn't want to be anywhere near water. But I think it is important to know how to swim - you never know when you will need to. I am over 40, but I think you can learn at any age if you have a good instructor. I just wonder how much the lessons cost. Does anyone here know? Thanks for sharing with us! :D

I can't swim and I will not learn how it's just too scary for me to deal with I panic SO much when I get into water that goes above my chest. I had some horrible swimming lessons when I was in elementary school. The teacher made me get up on the high dive and he put a pole out there for me to leap out and grab well just as I leaped out there he pulled the pole away! SPLASH!! right into the water one of my class mates had to save me all he did was sit on the side of the pool laughing at me. I hated that teacher he knew I was afraid of the water. Anyway I go "swimming" in the pool but I don't get deeper than 3 feet of water lol. ~~Amberina~~

Congratulations on having the resolve to "jump in"! It is one of the most beneficial exercises and is easy on the joints and muscles. You are never too old to learn, so don't even think that! I myself am also scared of the water and am not a very good swimmer, but I try to doggie paddle my way across a pool on occasion. Good luck!

No, I can't. I almost drowned when I was 10 or 11 years old. It was the most scary feeling that ever happened to me! I would never want to experience this ever again..
