Hum.. I really try not to open my eyes under the water because it is bad for the eyes.
I can open my eyes under the water if I want but after a while I start to feel that my eyes are burning and it is not so pleasing. Especially in swimming pools, when there is a lot of chlorine in the water it's not good to open your eyes because the chlorine might touch your eyes and make them red. In the sea too, maybe there is not chlorine in the sea but the salt in the water can make your eyes burn.
Have a wonderful day!

it depend on the kind of the water i am swimming. i never tried again opening my eyes under sea water because i tried when i was a kid and my eyes was irritated. i always open my eyes when i am under the river. since i am a kid my niece and nephew most often went to the river near our house. i learn to swim when i was still 5 years old.

I always open my eyes in the water. It feels greet! Its a wonderful experience. But I can see only a short distance in the water. You can do it, just do it. You wont lose anything, but will get a surprise^_^

I have tried it and it really bothers me. I dont know what it is but I just feel like I am going blind when I do that. My daughter opens hers all the time though and loves it....I cant even get her to wear goggles. I guess it just depends on the person.

Hello, liuqian. I used to open my eyes when I was learning to swim in the river. It made me uncomfortable because the water run into the eyes and it hurt somewhat. But I think if you wear a water-proof glass you can open my eyes willingly. The world underwater is really beautiful and wonderful.
Have a nice day and enjoy yourself!

I used to open them underwater when I was little all the time but now the chlorine hurts them to much. It even burns my eyes to have them closed under the water they will burn for a few days after I have gone swimming.

I can open my eyes under water.I wont do it often because it will burn my eyes. You can't really see either when you are under the water.

Yes, I can and do open my eyes under water, however it does irritate my eyes, so I try to wear goggles. I've never been afraid of anything getting in my eyes, reason being is that even if something does get in my eyes it's immediatly flushed out, unless of course it's an elbow or a finger, in which case I try to avoid those.

If the water is clean then yes, I can do this. Although I don't recommend doing this at the cheap pools. Chlorine isn't quite healthy for the eyes I think.
