Greyhound Lab mix

A couple I recently met had an unusual dog. It's a greyhound/lab mix. At first glance I just thought it was a small lab, but then I noticed that he carried his ears back, and tail low like the greyhound, and has a more stream-line head. He's a really sweet dog, but I found it odd that he doesn't bark, and would chatter his teeth when he was excited. He also seems really nervous.
Has anyone ever had a greyhound before? are these normal behaviors?
Have you encountered any other dogs you found strange?

I have a greyhound/shepherd mix and she does bark and doesn't chatter her teeth. She is really nervous though and was much more so when I first got her.
She is very odd looking. She has gigantic ears on a sort of slimmed down shepherd head, and a greyhound looking body with the big chest and high waist.
There was a gorgeous greyhound/catahoula leopord dog at the pound recently that I very much wanted to take home. He had the classic greyhound body and beautiful coloring from the catahoula side.
We used to have a greyhound track here so we still have a lot of greyhounds and greyhound mixes in the area. They are great dogs!

Thanks for your comment. They don't have greyhound tracks near where I grew up, so I'm very unfamiliar with the breed.

I have a blond lab/grey hound mix. He is seven years old and is very smart and very fast. He is also very beautiful. Fine featured with a grey hound swagger. I have two grand children and he has never been mean with them but does not want to play unless he is outside and my grandson throws him his ball. He does have a "baby" which he throws in my lap when he wants to play. He also opens the cupboard door when he needs to go outside. If he wants attention, he will close my laptop cover with his nose. He is the best dog we have ever had but sheds horribly.

Lady, a blonde lab/greyhound mix found us about 3 weeks ago. She had been abandoned in the country and was starving. She has beautiful graceful features with a long greyhound body, but lab coat. She loves the water and will push open the shower door to get in the water. She is incredibly smart and has developed a very large vocabulary within 3 weeks. She also is an escape artist and figured out how to open her pen gate. She can do it in about 5 minutes flat. She also can open the front door to get back in the house.
She would love to play with the cat, but is very energetic and the cat isn't willing - smart cat! Lady does like to chew and so we keep her with plenty of toys. She will run and chase the all over and over and will finally "retrieve". She does shed a lot, but a good brushing helps that. I never would have even thought of a lab/greyhound mix, but would have another one in a second. She is sweet, loyal, smart, trainable, obedient and adoring!

I found my mix a couple of months ago. He was all alone underneath a bush. I took him in and noticed very distinct features very quickly. Of course the physical features but also in his behaviour; very timid, loyal and very very protective of children. Example i am juvenille diabetic, i take insulin shots everyday. My son found my insulin pen with a needle attached. He is two years old at the time. Either way it us very dangerous for him. Anyways charlie (my dog) saw that my son was trying to play with my insulin, he immediately gently took it away from my son and covered it with his paws. And when my son tried to take it from charlie he started a warning bark. That's when i came in saw what was happening and charlie came over and dropped the insulin pen down by me. During this amazing circumstance i didn't hear my dog at all do a mean bark. Overall everything is the same he's very energetic, funny but also loves to cuddle. By far the best dog i will ever except in my family. I just hope for the future that this type of mix breed will continue.

I have never had a greyhound, that is definitely unusual behavior for a lab, labs are usually quite outgoing, at least the labs I have had always are...

Greyhouds are edgey energetic dogs. Labs are toned down energetic dogs that like chewing to release energy. Maybe the mix caused a chatter psychosis (is there such a thing?).

Greyhounds as a rule are very mellow, laid back dogs. The young pups are super energetic (like all pups) but as they age they mellow considerably. Not sure where you got the idea they are "edgey". Some can be have a more nervous temperment than others, but those few are not representative of the breed.
Socialization build confidence and rescued former racing dogs are socialized in a fairly consistent, but limited environment. When/if they ever get adopted, they are thrust into new circumstances they've never been exposed to such as living in a home, walking up flights of stairs, etc. Despite that, almost all adjust rapidly and well to their new lives. Those greyhounds that experienced great trauma, abuse or who were born differently wired may or may not ever "come around". Like people, some have heavy baggage. The more dedicated the owner to training and socializing the better.
Teeth chattering in greyhounds is a sign of a happy or contented dog. I remember receiving an email from a confused adopter who had placed several blankets on her newly adopted greyhound dog she though he was cold (!)...Melani

I have a greyhound/lab mix who looks very much like this puppy. He's a great dog - sweet, eager to please, and smart, smart, smart.. He does bark, and shakes in any situation that makes him uncomfortable. He's an old guy now, but acts like a puppy.
I'd be very interested in learning how this puppy's personality has evolved - and where he's from.
Just started researching the mix, that's the reason for the delayed reply.

I have the most gorgeous greyhound/black lab mix and I love him! He has the greyhound body. quickness, shyness and lots of energy. Shakes when he is anxious also. Very picky eater. Chases balls constantly, no one can catch him. Will only go into the water when he is after the ball. Hates water but very fast swimmer when he does. ( probably just to get out !) Very very smart. Easily follows commands, easily taught. The only lab in him I guess is his black look. Everything else seems to be greyhound. LOVE THIS MIX!
