Which medicine is best for headaches? Any natural pain relief remedies?

When you're in pain, do you wait for your body to kick in the endorphens? Do you believe that natural painkillers in the body are better for your health?
I'm a big believer in natural pain management techniques. But, when I get a headache, I have to take a pain reliever. I can't simply wait for the headache to go away. I wish that I could. For me, waiting just makes the pain worse.
I've tried other alternatives to Tylenol, like exercise and that doesn't seem to help. I'm a real homebody, so perhaps fresh air would help my headaches. Sometimes they are related to allergies and sometimes to eye strain. Others are real migraines.
I've heard that the best pain relievers are already in your body. The body manufactures natual pain killers that take away many of the pains we would otherwise feel.
Supposedly the pain killers are released during child birth, but I did not benefit from any such thing. The few hours of child birth that I experienced without manmade pain killers were intense and unbearable. Of course, that could have just been due to the fact that they wouldn't let me get up and move around the room. Movement usually helps pain. Or, so I've found.
How do you stimulate the natural painkillers to work? Would love suggestions.

I always drink a lot of water if i have a head ache as it can be a sign that your brain is dehydrated, If it doesn't start to help after 30mins then i grab a pain killer tablet

yup. that's true. it is usually a sign of dehydration. that's why i take a shower! just kidding. anyway, that's a simple advice from justadevil. drink plenty of water first and if possible, not cold but warm water. it works just fine, too.

I don't take any pain relief unless I have severe cramps. I find letting my body deal with pain more helpful. If I have a headache I just lie down with an eyemask, and drink plenty of water. Though I don't really get headaches very often!

That's a good point about the water.
Often dehydration causes headaches.d
Especially in our area.
Thanks for reminding me.
I'll give that a try.
Thanks!

It all depends on the type of headache. If it is really bad then I just take a couple of Exederin.
If I have a tension headache and my husband is around he does this thing where I lay on the floor on my back. He kneels behind me and holds my head in his hands. His fingers are pressing into the tendons at the base of my skull. As my tendons relax my head falls slowly into his palms.
Nine times out of ten, when I get up my headache is gone. It is a pretty cool technique.

I don't know any natural painkillers that work. But when I was younger I used to get migraines really bad. The only thing I could do was go to sleep, take some ibuprofen, and sleep it off. I know the other thing that I used to do was put Vick's vaporub on my forehead. I rubbed it all over my forehead, it would get cool on my head and I couldn't feel the pain that much. It sounds crazy but it worked for me, those headaches were terrible, and I would try anything to not feel it.

hey beautiqueen26 Really it is a very good topic. I have also bitter experience headache . There are so many reasons for headache and also it can be termed as migrain as far as medical terminology is concerned. After working in the office which is centrally airconditioned if you suddenly out from the office you will have to face atmospheric imbalance as outside of the office obviously hot and it is one of the reason for headache. I believe in headache natureopathy is the best solution as pain killers have their side effect which affect the body in the long run.. Due to cold and cough you can experience headache. Due to irregularities in sleeping you can suffer from headache. So avoid pain killers as far as possible and do natureopathy

At first let me tell to you about pain killers is that, these man made pain killers will just cut your sensory motor nerves which performs the sensing action, so that it prevents nerve impulse to reaching your brain , because this impulses carry the sensation of pain if u are being hurt. so if u use too much of these pain killers it will cause nervous disorders in your later part of life.so if u ever have a headache , in India we use green herbs as a bandage and keep it on our forehead by soaking it in herbs foam. i don't know which country u r from , but i hope u can switch to other methods , i mean natural methods like the Chinese acupuncture, and some herbal treatments. if u can buy some books about using herbal methods to prevent pain. in my advice never use this so called pain killers, as one of my relatives who used this lost the sensation about a half of his body. i hope u had understood me well

hi. Whenever I have a headache or migraine, and i can still take it (because I have high tolerance for pain), I would get one ply of tissue paper and roll it to become thin. I then insert it in one of my nostrils. The idea is to tickle my nose to achieve a sneeze. Then I would do it with the other nostril. When you sneeze, you'll feel a sudden release of pressure from your head. Just continue doing it until you will feel light headed. It means most of the pressure has been released. Just dont overdo sneezing or your eardrums will be damaged. Sometimes, when it's too painful for me and I cant even stand up, I'd get my chinese balm. It's composed of menthol-camphor ingredients. I'd put some in my temple, eyes and nose. A few minutes later, you'll feel it cooling down the pressure. If that still doesn't work, that's the time i'd drink a pain reliever. I'm not a fan of drinking medicines other than my diabetes maintenance..

I've tried Advil and it works for me. But I'd rather just rest or sleep it off. I only take meds when needed. Otherwise, I might be immune to it and when I'm in so much pain it won't help me anymore. I don't know if movement will simulate natural painkillers. I guess if they're really in our system then they should function whether or not you move.

I also suffer from headaches- more of the migraine type as well as sinus. I have found that the best pain releiver for me is Excedrine- it literally starts working in 15 minutes. Have you tried hot compresses over your eyes/ forehead?

hey beautyqueen! i am back!
anyway, i am a pharmacist but i don't usually take in pills whenever i am in pain. i am aware of their curing effects but i am also aware of their side effects. however, paracetamol are just light pain relievers and are safe in recommended doses. however, it's still better not to take in medicines since these stuffs are made from chemicals which later on in life might give us bad effects or might make us dependable on them from time to time.
so, whenever i have headaches, i have a long warm shower. usually helps me. i forget about the headache after.
when it's my boyfriend having headaches, i usually give him a back, neck and head massage until he starts snoring. hehe. yup. it works a lot!

I have migraines. One of the things that works for me is Excedrin Migraine. But asprin upsets my stomach, so it is usually trading one problem for another. So I opt for a nap in a darkened area. And then a strong cup of coffee.

Ooh sorry, I don't know much about natural painkillers. I am a big fan of Excedrin for headaches. Nine times out of 10, if I do not take something better for a headache, it will just get worse and worse until I feel sick. Excedrin works for me in about 10 minutes.
