How can you tell if your cat wants something?

My cats are generally more active when they are hungry. They keep bugging me and bugging me early in the morning until I get out of bed and feed them. Sometimes Columbus meows when he wants something. And I think I've got it in terms of how my cats want to be more comfortable. Waffles, for example, curls herself up against my back.
Does your cat let you know if he or she wants something, and if so, how does he or she do it?

My cat, Kitty (named by my son), will meow until I look at her, then she will meow and run to her bowl, if I don't follow, she keeps doing it until I fill her bowl with food. She also follows me everywhere and when she wants attention, she makes a squeeky noise and her tail shakes like a rattle snake. It's actually really weird, lol.
Karmen doesn't talk much. She will occasionally squeek when you startle her, but that's about it. I actually don't think I have heard anything but a squeek out of her.
Eve meows to announce to everyone that she has entered the room. And when you are petting her, she meows right in your face, if you are close enough.

Garfield, the orange tabby that adopted us when his family moved and left him makes sure I know he is hungry by loud MEOWS. Otherwise, he is content and sleeping somewhere in the back on the patio, under the carport or under a car. He's been staying out of the sun and I don't blame him! He's a smart kitty!

I get tapped. Josie will tap my shoulder, my leg or anything she can reach. This is usually an announcement of near starvation. She thinks it's dinner time; and, make no mistake about it, she wants to eat NOW.
Paisley usually says RAAAAAH as loudly as she can. This can mean anything from "you looked at me" to "do you want to touch me? Let me think about it."
Peaches says "meep" when she doesn't want you to look at her, touch her or think about her.
Arthur doesn't have so many opinions.
