I prefer email for most things. The reason is that if I'm busy right then, I can wait and give the item my full attention later on and give it the response it deserves. Having the email sitting in my inbox reminds me it needs to be responded to. If I'm talking back and forth to someone about something and it's an ongoing conversation that's going to last for a few minutes or neither one of us is busy and we both know it, I like IM for that, though.

Thanks for responding. It sounds like IM for personal and email for business. Did I get that right?

Email is better for going back and forth on ideas with business, stories, group assignments, family things, and especially when you're mad with someone and want to get it out. Email is a great barrier to social contact. IM is great for quick responses to questions or the "I'm really bored" feeling we get at work or school. I'd say I prefer email, because I tend to have a lot to say :)

That's right. I do find myself using email if I have a lot to say. In the past I've typed big long things in IM only to have it not go through.

I only use email generally if it's a lot of typing I have to do. Sometimes IM doesn't take long messages...depends on which one you're using.

Thanks for your response...so you feel IM rushes you too much? I just don't type until I know what I want to say...jmo. Thanks again.

IM it gets the message back and forth faster. Besides, at times I canbe impatient and lazy. I'd get bored waiting for a repsonse via email and I'd move on to something else.

I prefer IM because you can talk pretty much immediately to the other person. If that person is offline, certain IM programs let you leave them offline messages. I find it much easier than typing an email.

It depends on who. My best friend and I IM all day long, it is cheaper then calling on the phone. Family normally email.
