I have this habit of working out when I'm hungry. When I excersise right after I eat I get cramps and nausia so I try to seperate the two things as much as possible. Just so you know my motivation: I'm not trying to lose weight; I'm just trying to be fit. So, is it ok to work out even if your really hungry?

I think it is best to eat lightly, maybe some oatmeal and fruit! We need food for energy. If you eat an hour or two before exercising, it should not cause cramps or other problems!

Maybe a banana or two would be best?

It shouldn't, no. But I just have a finicky stomach.

I'm pretty certain that being properly hydrated is the main thing. You shouldn't exercise if you are so hungry that you get shaky, weak, or feel faint though. I believe you would burn more fat exercising when hungry because you don't have as much blood glucose to burn.

I always have my water bottle nearby. And don't worry, I'm kind of a sissy and don't do anything that makes me too uncomfortable so excersising while shaky, weak or faint isn't like me.

i don't think it is good at all to do that... exercise requires energy and if you exercise when you are really hungry and you exercise, you might faint... at least you have to have something in your stomach before you exercise even though you can't have a full stomach... take care and have a nice day...

I think it's perfectly fine to exercise before you eat or when you are hungry as long as you don't feel faint when you do so. I used to exercise before breakfast because I didn't have time and would eat breakfast on the road or at work when I got there. I know that some people would advise against it for various reasons, but if that works for you, I don't see anything wrong with it. In my opinion, though, if you are able to eat a small amount before you exercise it might be better. Or, you can bring some fruit along and eat it after you do your heavy cardio. I would suggest trying out several things and see what's the best.

Thanks, I'll try out some stuff. I don't think I'll be able to do the fruit thing though. If I injest anything except water any time before, during, or after my work out I get nausiated. I'll do some experiments and see what's best.

I doubt that you are doing any damage to yourself. But you might think about just having a piece of fruit before you exercise. It will give you some energy to burn to tone those muscles.

no as you are experiencing low blood sugar and the nausea and cramping are not from eating but just from eating the wrong things. have a small carb snack with some protein such as a tbsp of peanut butter and a banana nothing more,or some cheese and an apple. if youexercise when you are very' hungry and your blood glucose goes too low you will pass out. takeit from a person who is a diabetic. I never exercise if I am'very hungry without taking a light snack. not a meal not anything heavy. a light snack.
