Do you think that water should be free, where we don't have to pay for it?

Do you think that we should not get charged for this? What are your feelings on this subject?

It would be nice if water was free. I think one o the reasons why it is not is that if it was free people would waste it. It's such a shame that people like that spoil it for the rest of us.

Yes, it is a shame that others has made it so hard on others.. That is what is wrong with the world now. Foolish people making foolish decisions, that affect others.. This is so sad..

Personally, I feel water should be free because it is available easily from taps and under the sky :P However, I understand we should be charged because the water we bring are processed to ensure it is safe for drinking. For the case of restaurants, additional costs are incurred to wash the glass. The additional cost could come from hiring a person to do the washing, the detergent used etc. Some might argue this is part of service, but if a business cannot sustain, where comes the service. LOL.

Hello, cream!I am of the opinion that we should pay for the supplied water for two reasons.the first reason is that we will use water judiciously, and second reason is that the water supplying companies are incurring expenditures on treatment of water and machineries through which it is supplying to our homes and they are paying to there workers.so unless we pay certain amount how they will manage there company.thanx.

The water is free. What you are being charged for is the cup that the water goes in. I worked at Subway and people would complain when we charged for water but if you brought in your own cup the water was free if you used a paper one from the restaraunt you were charged for the price of the cup not the water. So water is free.

Well, it is great to have water for free. But now it is really difficult to have such without the fear of getting sick or some diseases. It hard to trust water from free sources nowadays. I guess, we are the ones to blame since people just take nature for granted. In our country you will see a lot of undisciplined people, throwing garbage anywhere. So what happens is water in some areas is no longer safe. Though at home, I have my own waterpump from a well. But if I tend to go out in other places, I usually don't mind paying for water as long as its safe.

Mine is but then I don't pay for treated water to dispose of toxic waste, sewage, and just plain crap. I guess I would mind paying but they would have to get it cleaner than they do now. Have you ever drawn a glass of tap water and let it set for 24 hrs. UCHHHHH!

water is free but because of the latest technology that make water free from any virus or germs, water now is with pay because it cost a lot of money in treating the water to purify it. in our place water is cheaper because the source are near to our are and fresh no need to treat it with expensive chemicals or machine.

Its free out of the tap, but other than that. Try telling the bottled water industry your idea, I don't think they would go for it.

Yes and no, we travel so a lot of our bills are paid by my wife's company. The water bill would pale in comparison if you bought bottled water, but out of the tap doesn't cost that much, your water bill is basically taxes for using the water system in your town or city. I don't think that will ever be free.

Actually, also it says on the bill that they charge for the 'water', the water itself is free. You pay for the service of having it cleaned and made suitable for drinking according to our standards and delivered to your house through the system of pipes, which is maintained by the water company until it reaches your house. If you don't want their water, you need to collect the rainwater, or take a bucket to the nearest stream, or dig for a well in your yard, if you have one. But in those cases it's a consume at your own risk, lol.

i think we should be charged for water... because in singapore, we have water shortage and will need every amount of water there is. if water is free, people will take them for granted and waste them. so if we are charged for water, we will be able to keep track on how mcuh water we are using and will be able to be more careful of our water useage... so in singapore, if we need to create a technology that cleans sewage water to new water, i feel that the water is really important and precious... and just think...if you are not charged, you will use all the water up within 50 years!!! interesting question...

I think in most cases, it's not the water itself that we get charged for but the service & coast that goes into getting the water to where it's going that we have to pay for... Apparently we can't just randomly goto any pond & get a cup full of water & drink it... Or even walk right up to the ocean & get a bucket full of water & cook with it... Cost that goes in to transferring water to treatment center, time & manpower that goes in to these plants, putting down & maintaining water line so those treated waters can get to our homes, they all cost money... And just like any other service, we have to pay for all that...

I do not understand why some places charge you for water. I think water should be for free unless it is bottled. I have been in a reastaurant that charged me for water, I was a little shocked

Yes, it should be free. But, at certain dine in places, water would be charged about 10 cents. Like at McDonald's or Burger King.. I believe that water should be free in this case..

They are not charging you for the water they are charging you for the cup that the water goes in. Those restaruants still have to pay for the cup so they pass the cost on to you the water is actaully free.

I do believe that there must be something for which no charges should be allowed. Water is life and comes in the top of my list of non-taxable items. I appreciate the costs involved towards its processing. But charging for it is still meaningless. Our Corporation has recently decided to impose taxes on domestic water supply. Nobody is happy about it.

Well what a lovely dream that would be. Of course we are paying for what I would call poor quality water. Ours has a distinct sulfar quality to it so we use a filter on our kitchen sink and the water is hard also so it leaves a film on things.

Dear friend, I do know that major part of this earth is water still we do find cerain times to get drinking water that too which is priced. I hope if water that too drinking water if given free it could be one of the bigest side were it is limited or unavailable. Still as water is one of the basic human need as air I wish it is given free. May be I fear the air we intake as oxygen too may be costed may after millions of years. May be all these happens due to pollution and other global warming parts. Lets hope for the better and may be new inventions may be found to get drinking water free or purified drinking water from sea water or other waste water.

No as there is already a shortage in most states, and if water werefree many more would waste it than already do. Our apartment rent includes the water, gas and electricity we must pay. But the water is not free, thats for sure as our rent is really steep.

Air and water are the most precious natural gifts given to us by God. We should value it and preserve it for tomorrow. It is the mentally of every human being that you value for things you pay for and just misuse things you get for no cost. I think the reason behind charging for water could be this.
