i just wonder where you get your pets? do you buy them from pet shop or pick up them on the streets or having them as gift from others? i have my sheilla from pet shelther. i just wanted to visit pet shelter in my city then suddenly there was a cat which interested me to adopt her as my cat. in her ears there was tattoo from pet shelter which said A5, and then i named her sheilla. now she is already 4 years with me and very lovely cat. yesterday, i just want to have new cat. a persian cat which already upload in here. the color is grey and he is the one which sit down. i will have him as my cat after 2-3 months later cause he was just born in April 2008. i got him after searching from online forum and the cost of adoption quit cheaper than i buy cat persian in pet shop. i have not yet decided his name yet, and it will be nice if you recommend me about nice name to him. this persian cat is male

The only pets I buy from a shop are my tropical fish, frogs and shrimps, and it has to be a specialist aquarium shop not a general pet shop. You can't buy dogs and cats in most British pet shops and I wouldn't if I could. I usually adopt my dogs through a 'breed' rescue organisation (GSD's). The present 4 yr old girl Willow was from a Puppy farm, where she'd been bred and then kept as a 'breeder', it was closed down by the RSPCA! My cats are 18 and 4, the old male Bell was a kitten from the animal shelter and the young female Kia was from an 'accidental' mating when a woman who lived near us didn't get her cat spayed soon enough. The only grey cat I've had was called Smokey (my young daughter named her) and it's a very common name I've heard used for male or female dogs and cats who are grey. A lot of people use names associated with the colour and I know a dark grey cat called Ashley or Ash for short and a lighter grey one called Blue. You'll find the 'perfect' name for your cat and it will probably just suddenly come into your mind. Our dog was given the name Zara by the rescuers but I didn't like it so my daughter and I were coming up with different names and as soon as I said Willow I knew it was the right name for her.

The best thing I can think of is to put 'cat names' in the web search as there are lots of different sites that give names and meanings you could look at.

Hi plumwish, I adopted a cat recently and I got her from the SPCA. If I'm looking for a pet, that's where I always go first. Blessings.

Our two cats had been abandoned. We found them near the place where mom works, and brought them home.

I have picked them up. I've had them given to me after being picked up by someone else. I have gotten 4 from rescue groups - but didn't pay anything, one was supposed to be a foster, but we still have her 7 years later, one was dumped on the rescue and hadn't been processed and the other 2 we took with the understanding they would never be given away. I inherited 1, I got one from mylot, I've live trapped a few... I've had a bunch surrendered to me. Gee, I wonder how I ended up with 26...? A gray persian - how about Silver? Arjen? Argent? Storm?

They are all cats. Argent is another spelling of Arjen, and means silver. Yep, got Tony off of mylot! A friend told us right after Christmas that she found a kitten outside her place. Her landlord didn't allow pets (or atleast she couldn't afford pet deposit) so she was going to take him to Walmart and give him away. Well, she only lived in San Antonio (where we get the name Tony from) and I live in Austin, so I drove down and got him. He is a TOTAL sweetheart. And, we haven't had the heart to find him another home - and if we do it'll only be to someone really special like he is.

Our cats have a long story behind them. We moved on to a piece of land about 2 years ago and there was a very skinny very pregnate cat there already. We took her in and got her healthy. Then she had the babies. They were all very sweet and we had found homes for all of them but one. She looked just like her mom and was very tiny. Well momma got out and tried to get to the chicken coop next door and the owners shot her. The baby wasn't weened all of the way like her brothers so we kept her. Then she had her first litter. There was one baby that struggled at the birth and her legs didn't work quite right and so we kept her. So we have those 2 and a guinea pig that was given to my daughter for a birthday gift.

Most of my cats have been strays I've rescued or adopted at the shelter. My dogs however were purchased from a breeder, only because I wanted purebred. However any future dogs I have I'll adopt since there are too many shelter animals out there now.

I have bought my dogs from a pet shop. I have also bought them from a breeder. I have also bought them from an individual also. I would rather buy a pet that is AKC registered though. That is what my dog is now, that I own. He is pure bred and has papers on him. I would name the cat Smokey.

Hi there Plum Wish!We bought a pair of parakeets, Hyon and Silfy. They had two babies and then we bought another parakeet, Divine. We bought them from a pet shop in Kalibo. Later on, they had more babies and as of now, we already have ten parakeets in total.

My husband and I just got a new puppy (she is six and a half months old) about three months ago. We got her from someone that goes to my sister in laws church. She is such a great dog to have around and she really is fun. We are still trying to train her though. She doesn't listen very well. She is a chihuahua and really cute. I think that you're cat is just adorable.

Most of my pets were abandoned. One, a friend gave us. The rest we got from a local animal rescue group. I just started a discussion about our newest pet, Jasmine, whom was here at work when we arrived last Friday. She is a Rottie, trained, and a pure joy. And, yes, I did call around to see if anyone had reported her missing and no one had. I know your new kitty will be a joy. I have 6 kitties myself. All of them unique. Blessings, LLA

I would never pay big money for a pedigreed pet when there are so many pets of all kinds at the animal shelters that have to be euthanized daily because there is no room. We have adopted two cats from our local animal shelter and couldn't be happier with them.

Most of my pets came as gifts from others, except I do not know how we got our first dog because I was four at the time, but mostly when I grew older, it was either our friend had a dog or a cat, or someone at work's mother had a dog that had a litter. Where I lived if a cat had kittens, the children would go to house to house and the kittens disappeared right then. They were so cute and the same with the puppies, they were gone in no time. I have not a pet now, since the last one was with us so long that nothing can replace here.

Right now, I do not have pets with me, so it will be difficult to spell out which one would be better i.e. a pet from a shop or a street. I think, it largerly depends upon your dedication, if you bring up your pet, as your own, it will be a healthy one and will remain loyal to you.

i have three cats at home. none of them is bought with money. my girl was found lying on the street dying. my longhair boy was from the local shelter. my mixed breed boy was adopted from another cat owner who accidentally let his show cats breed. i guess i just fell in love with them without having the intention of getting cat.

The shelter. Sherbert and Missy came to us as strays. Don't fret about names. I feel that the RIGHT name will suddenly "come to you." It has with all of them that I've named. It took nearly 2 months for Angel's name to come to me, but when it did, it WAS jus the right name for him.
