Is rice fattening?

I am beginning to think it is because I never really ate that much rice until I moved out on my own. My mom doesn't make a lot of rice and she is thin. I think I have gotten bigger since I have made rice part of my diet. What do you think?

I know that rice, and bread as well, tend to be starchy and raise your blood sugar fast. So, your blood sugar will rise fast and then crash, making you hungry and want to eat more. But, this depends on the kind of rice that you eat. If you eat the sticky white rice, then it's more fattening than the wild rices. But, gaining weight is mostly about calories in vs calories out. What else has changed since you moved out on your own? Do you exercise less? Are you stressed out more therefore eating more? That might be more of a cause than just eating the rice.

Not really sugar, but starch which turns into sugar in your body pretty easily. It's a little different than straight sugar.

No, I do not think it is fattening at all. But you can remove the most fattening part. Just make sure you rinse it well with warm water to remove the starch. That's what I have always done after par-boiling it. Then it also stores in the fridge easily without being so sticky and clumpy.

Oh and one more thing. If you are trying to lose weight, make sure you eat lots of veggies with it instead of lots of meat. That will help, I think. Some days, I mostly eat vegetarian with minimal meat and those days I know I lose some weight, not gain it.

Well ever since changing my lifestyle and the way that I eat my new philosophy is that nothing is fattening if you know how to eat it. You don't have to take a big plate of rice to enjoy it. I rarely eat too much rice anymore and now that it's really expensive I'll be eating less I guess.

My husband eat a lot of rice but he's thin, so I think rice is not fattening itself, but if you take too much of it your sugar level will get impacted and thus reducing your metabolism.
