I have seen this to be different from person to person. Some can't sleep with sound surrounding them - i, for example, if i want to sleep over the day i don't stand sounds especially if i am alone, but my girlfriend can't sleep without listening to music, the silence scares her.
How do you sleep ?

I can't say I sleeping complete silence. My dog snores. As does my hubby. So if it was completely quiet I may be lost.

I want to sleep silently, I don't want with music. I hate when I hear some noises. I get easily distracted when I heard some scratches or bark of my dog, I am very sensitive to noise and some times I am scared of hearing some strange noise in the middle of the night. I prefer listening to music before during my teenage years, maybe I've changed a lot. Well, I am adult now facing different world now, I don't know It just some thing might just change for a reasons.

I think that whether I listen to something or not all depends on how tired I am as well as the mood I am in. If I am scared I will cuddle with my fiance but if I am tired and can't sleep I will turn the t.v. on to something boring to lull me to sleep. I can sleep with a fan on, but I used to not be able to as I would get too cold. My fan is three small fans that can be set on low or medium. h

We turn it to the golf channel or to a music channel, it lulls us right to sleep. I've always been one to fall asleep to music, even though now it takes longer for me to fall asleep to music. Have you ever thought of getting those machines with sounds from the beach or thunderstorms? Have a Great day.

I can easily be disturbed because of a specific noise with that I need to sleep in silence. However when I am so tired, that is the time, that A particular sound will not distract me at all. But I really prefer to sleep in silence, sometimes quiet music helps.

I prefer quiet, or the sound of the ceiling fan, but my husband sometimes wants to fall asleep listening to music so he plays the walkman. As a teenager I used to like falling asleep to music but I'm a very light sleeper these days.

Silence is noise to me:))) if the room is too silent i wake up ..haha
I sleep with the tv turned on,since i was little.. if i didn't have a tv i needed the lights on .
I most enjoyed when neighbours played music ,gave parties..or stuff like that, so i could hear them from my appartment and i could easily fall asleep..it was a pleasant time for me.
I think it's also representative for my way of being, because even in a disco,i am not the kind of girl to be dancing on the bar, i would rather just be there, feel the atmosphere, but invisible if i could be:))

Being a mother I can sleep with noise or without it. If I close my eyes chances are that I am going to sleep regardless of what is going on around me. After almost 13 years of broken sleep I have the ability to sleep anywhere, any time, and with little noise or a marching band in the house. I feel sorry for my husband that can be talking to me and look over only to see me sound asleep sitting up on the couch LOL.

I really cannot sleep when the environment is very noisy so I usually sleep in silence. Just plain, ol' silence.

i like quiet and a very dark room to sleep..my BEST sleep.
it's so interesting that the silence scares her!
i have friends who have a fan or hair dryer running all night long.
i'm a single child. i guess i had quiet nights from the very beginning.

Before falling asleep,I need a complete silence. But after falling asleep,if there is any sound surrounding me,doesn't matters much, although I cannot stand talking of peoples or cell phone ringing.

an interesting topic, i have never noticed. But it's true.
After you said that, i noticed i usually sleep with some sound as TV...music or something, i don't know why i do that but i will...and always, i used to sleep with that sound.
Of cause, i didn't make the TV or radio running all night, heplfully, the TV and Radio could be timed.

I hate the sound of silence as well. I grew up in the city, hearing cars and ambulances. So now that I live in a small town, the silence annoys me. So now I just put the ceiling fan on and pretend it's the sound of traffic.
