I tell my Mom I miss her food all of the time. We both have recipes that the other one can't cook right. She came to visit and I talked her into making me potato pancakes.Next time she promised me her homemade enchiladas. When I really miss her I make white rice with raisins, cinnamon, butter and sugar just like she used to make when we were kids ( tastes better hwen she makes it though). Mmmmm comfort food! If you read this I love you Mom.

wow! My mom also makes potato pancakes! They are very good! I hope you put sour cream on them and not sugar like some people do ! Today my mom is making Tacos, She doesn't make that too often, Making potato pancakes is a big job though, you need to grind the potatoes, mix it with the recipe stuff, and then pour the batter in the pan, Its a good 3+ job, but my mom always gave me the pancakes when she was still making them! she use to call me upstairs saying "Eric!, come pickup your coat on the floor, i went and she gave me the first pancake because i lived with my 2 sisters, Brings back memories!

Hello nupnats. Things I really miss my is the way she do care us. She always do her best to become a perfect mom, She is not a good cook, but one of her delicious recipes she always prepare for us is the spagetti. I really miss my mom, Living without your family especially without my mom beside me makes me feel sad. I am currently living now with my uncle for my schooling.I decided to live without them just for my studies.I cant wait to see my family again. Hope to see them very soon and to eat spagetti from my mom.

My mother made homemade bread and mashed potatoes that were better than any I have ever made. She made bread by memory, as never looked at a cookbook. We would make lots of loaves and put them in the freezer. She would make a large pan of potatoes and set trays in a row to make tv dinners for future quick meals.
The tv dinners were great, as you knew exactly what was in the meal. I'm really concerned about the frozen dinners in the grocery store, as they have a lot of long names that I can't say and don't know what it will do to me.

hi.. Well to tell you about me, I stay away from home. Infact i have been away from home for 7 years now and currently i live with my friends on a sharing basis where none of us know how to cook.
I really miss the food that my mother cooks. My mom is the best cook for me. Even if someone else cooks for me, I don't find it as tasty as my mom cooks. I belong to north India and i i work in hyderabad, so perhaps i don't find any kind of food good enough for me here.
I even asked her once to teach me cooking but after a while gave it up. I could not learn the steps and all those ingredients. I don't know how she manages. But she is surely the best cook. I love the food cooked by her and craving to have the food cooked by her.

Oh ya. Natively, I belong to U.P. and my grandparents are there in Mumbai.. i am here in hyderabad because of my job. It has been only 4 months of stay here.
I am planning to go for a vacation to my home. Hope i get some mom-made food now.
And will surely try to learn something this time. But the only problem i find is that i am too lazy to cook for myself..

I feel horrible just thinking this but I don't miss mom's cooking at all. Even though she believes that she is a great cook I have never thought so and prefer my own cooking...She had a tendancy to overcook everyone and almost everything was fried. I cook lighter, healthier meals-mostly from scratch.

I lives in a boarding school and thus I always have my meal in the dinning room. And now I do miss my mom's food. Sometimes we are wondering why we won't fed up with what mom makes for us. It's ordinary and not that many choice. But we just fall in love with it. Maybe just like what you said, mom add some love into the dishes to make it delicious.

Worlds No,1 person whom we all on this earth love is 'Mother'.Whatever way she cooks,it includes her affection in it and it tasts sound. The only ingredient she adds is her affection which will make the taste double.Ofcourse as I told you everyone, even an animal enjoys mothers company or milk or dishes etc.

I miss my moms food like hell and I don't think I can ever match her cooking skills. She has a special ingredient -LOVE whenever she cooks for me. After being married I have only cooked for others .Never has any one made me sit and served me food, forget things I like to eat. And I guess thats what makes me crave for her food even more. I love the way she cooks rice pudding for me as I have a sweet tooth. OH!! this topic makes me miss her like Hell.

My mom was never that much of a cook..she will admit to that. But there are quite a few recipes that I have tried to make and they just aren't as good as hers. She makes a tuna noodle casserole that I made with her standing right next to me telling me exactly what to do and it still didn't taste the same. My husband has told me of a couple of things his mother used to make, so I got the recipes. He was extremely pleased when I surprised him with one dish he hadn't had in over 10 years.

Can't say that I do really. I was taught to cook by my grandmother and most people think that I am a better cook than my mom. I was cooking the family meals by the time I was 12 years old. Actually she often asks that I cook certain things for her.

I have been missing the food made by mom. When i was young,i can eat them as possible as i want because we lived together. Now i am living in another city and go back home only one or two times a year,so it is hard for me to eat mom`food. You know, every mom always can made their special food which never can not been imitated by the ohters.Just like your words, you can not make food same to you mother, although you are a good chef.Maybe it is what we really miss .

I also miss my mother's cooking. I live away from my parents so I get another cooking from restaurants. Anyway, there really are foods that only our mother makes it right. I love how my mother cooks our native delicacies. She has this own taste of it which I don't like if someone does it.
Unfortunately I'm the only person in the family (except kids) that do not know how to cook without (almost) burning our house or cut by a knife. hehehe.. I'm really bad at cooking, i just don't have the skills no matter how I try.

I know what you mean nupats. I moved out several years ago and still miss my mother's food. I think her food plays a big role emotionally. It just reminds me of home and being with family - the good times and bad times. I don't usually call her to tell her I miss her food, but I will always call her and ask her how to make some of her dishes and that's how she knows I miss her food and I miss home. I try to recreate her dishes, but they still have never turned out exactly the same. My partner says my dishes taste good (as he should, heh!), but I know how the original tastes and it's still just not as good as how my mom makes it. One of my favorite dishes is actually a simple corned beef dish with rice. I definitely cannot cook as well as my mom. I'm still learning everyday and experiment with different ingredients and cooking techniques. It's actually quite fun! But nothing beats the original.

My mom's cooking was awful! She tried so hard... but hot dogs in cornbread is just not a meal... It's a corn dog cut up in a baking dish! I was fortunate enough to have a dad who is an EXCELLENT cook! He made pizza's from scratch, chinese food from scratch, soup from scratch. He would spend hours in the kitchen and every meal was fantastic. I'm going to use that as my excuse as to why I can't cook =)
