I usually cook meals that are quick.
Or I will cook a whole chicken on my day off and then cut it up so it's ready for other quick meals the next few days of the week.
I don't really get out a cookbook and follow a long recipe.
Sometimes they look good, and I wish I could make them, but I know I never have the time or patience to make those kinds of things.
What about you?
Do you fix quick meals? Or do you take your time and follow long recipes?

I'm all about quick fixes....lol. Once in a while I will do something complicated, but for the most part it's quick and easy in my house. I don't like cooking, although I do get into baking. Every time I try something new there is someone in my family who does not like it so I tend to stick to the basics.

I try to go for quick or medium length meals. I haven't followed very many long, complicated recipes in my cooking experience. I have 4 children and I don't like to make them wait a long time, even though they are pretty patient. I prefer quick meals because of this reason. I usually spend about 45 minutes preparing and cooking a meal for dinner. If it is a special occasion or the weekend that is when the longer meals come into play.
Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

i don't usually cook for i am too busy as i have 2 jobs. sundays is the only time that i can cook and that would mean a special day for the kids, if i cook. i usually do the long way of cooking, as i said, i want it to be special for the family. but my wife do the cooking a lot for she stays home and do the chores. when she cook, she prefer the quick meals. that is to give her self more time to do other chores.

I make it a point to give my family a nutritious, healthy meal each day no matter how long it will take. I don't go for canned food, or the instant foods ready in the market because they are full of preservatives, additives and food coloring that are not good for the health. If ever I would go for quick cooking, I would make it a point that they are still done the healthy way, like steamed fish tossed with olive oil and veggies which could be done in 10 minutes or stir fry veggies with tofu. But normally, I am very patient in following recipes.

I'm not the huge cook type whenever I do because i don't know how to even if there's a recipe I'm following. In my new place, we're not allowed to cook so I get take-out meals everyday. But sometimes I buy food that needs boiled water so that how compicated I get in my place if I don't like eating outside.

We only cook simple things. We're not patient enough to follow really involved recipes. I guess we might if we were better cooks.

I love cooking meals that are quick, but look complicated
when done. I do lots of shrimp and chicken, but
no beef. For health reasons, we cut out the beef
and we've been much healthier ever since.
My best quick chicken recipe is simply three chicken
thighs, spices and cut up carrots and veggies
wrapped in foil on the grilling machine.
Cook for 35 minutes. Serve over rice!

I am not a good cook but I am not that bad either. I prefer making quick meals because I hate going through the complicated process of purchasing ingredients, chopping, etc. Most of the time, I would try new way of making the ingredients done faster like using food processors. I know its better tasting if meat are cooked or boiled the old-fashioned way (waiting for how many minutes, with all the spices mixed according to their proper order, etc) than using pressure cooker or other more advanced way of preparing them, still, I would go for quicker way of having them done and using instantly packed spices since I know I am not that good in mixtures.
I haven't had spaghetti cooked from scratch but I would gladly try doing it when I have enough time. I am proud to say that I do my carbonara from mixing cream of mushroom and Nestle cream and then add the spices to enhance the taste. That's for me is following a long recipe already :-)

The quicker the better for me! Tonight we had scrapple with fried potatoes and ready-made barbecued lima beans and whole wheat toast. I tossed a few new potatoes in the micro to mostly cook them and then cut them up and fried them. I also made myself a scrambled egg. Took about 45 minutes.
If I'm planning a bigger meal, I try to do something that "puts together" quickly, but can slow cook all day. Then, all the little things to go with it I can do at the last minute. I'm not the kitchen domestic my mother was. She'll start talking dinner when she gets up at 6AM. Sorry - I'm not even at breakfast yet. One step at a time. LOL

I'm a short order cook for an 8 and 5 year old. If I pulled out, and dusted off, the Betty Crocker cookbook my kids would poke me with forks! I do prepare ahead for meals though, I've often cooked my spaghetti (sp) sauce a day before and let the meat soak up the sauce and then I heat it up the next day while I'm boiling the pasta. That's about as far as I go.

If I'm too busy (that would be during weekdays), I prefer quick meals. During weekends, where I have more time in the kitchen, I open my recipe book and check out meals that I wanted to try or like to eat.

I prefer to cook things that are quick. I don't always have the time to stand around and follow a recipe to the letter. I have other things to do and some people I cook for just do not like waiting long periods of time for good food. So I just cook what is quick. If I have the chance, I'll cook foosd that have a bit of a recipe but I don't always have the time.

I tend to do medium cooking. I don't do alot of quick meals unless I've been gone all day or unless I'm really tired and then it's usually pizza. I also don't do long drawn out recipes b/c for some reason they rarely turn out for me. I tend to stay in the middle...things like lasagna, roasted chicken and potatoes, ect.

wow, Julyteen, you're bringing all of my old discussions back to the top again.
I forgot I asked some of these questions 2 months ago! Lol.
I wish I had more time to spend cooking at home. It saves so much money.
Sometimes I cook things when I have time and freeze them until I need them.
Thanks for your response!

Every once in a while I'll cook something complicated, but I'm really addicted to one pot meals. I love things like beans and rice, or hoppin' john, or a great big pot of spaghetti. Then we eat on the leftovers for a few days. There are only two people in my household so it's nice to cook once, and then eat for a while. I also really love Indian food some I'm constantly trying to perfect those recipes.

I know this is 5 month ago, but I just joined! [ well not long ago] anyway, well guess what! I work as a cook for a day care centre so I cook a lot in my day so when I get home Im tired, but after a while I prepare something nice and healthy for my family [ not complicated] mind you I leave that for weekends and even then a barbeque will do with salads of course, and sometimes make a big casserole and freezed in portions for the week ahead.
