My neighbor's dog is a pain!

My neighbor's dog is such a pain. We live out in the country and have no garbage pick up so when I go to work I just take it with me and dump it into the BFI bin and be done with it. Yesterday evening I was getting all the garbage prepared to take with me to work tonight and left it on my deck in the backyard. When I woke up, both my garbage bags were ripped open on their yard and dragged to where the dog is. It's very obvious it was their dog that did this mess. I ended up cleaning it by picking it up and putting it into a new garbage bag then threw it in my shed. Wow what a pain in the butt! Do you have a neighbor that has a dog that gets into your garbage? If so, what did you do about it.. complain to them? Or just cleaned it up and said nothing?

Spray the bags with ammonia when you take the trash out.

I would spray them with ammonia but I have to take my garbage with me to work and that's a 40 minute ride. It's bad enough it's smelly on it's own. Thanks for your advice

The way our yards are is like this.... It's all connected out in the country. My neighbors with the dog is my landlords. We can't tell them to put a fence up because it's their property. I don't like their dog that much either because he leave poop on our yard too. My hubby will shovel it and leave it by that hole where she sleeps. So they have somewhat of a poo war lol. What a way to say thanks for leaving your garbage out right? The dog looks older so maybe she won't live that much longer. Thanks for your comment

well, i will have a chat with my neighbour if i were in your position... you don't need that crap... not before you want to go to work... it will be really very annoying if it happens to me as well... hopefully you will be able to have a nice chat with your neighbour and sort things out... good luck and have a nice day...

I don't think my neighbor is going to do a thing about this. This dog is not an indoor dog and it sleeps under their house. They won't tie the dog up but next time she gets into the garbage I"m just going to leave it and let them clean it up. Thanks for your advice

my dad used to go to the pet store and buy a gallon bottle of "NO" and dump it on the bags.the dogs left it alone after that. for awhile we had a major dog problem in the neighborhood, neighbors didn't care, animal control called them "ghost dogs" (meaning they were too lazy to check out the complaint) so you were pretty much on your own to solve the problem.

No I do not have a dog problem as we are not allowed pets inour apt. complex, but do have a possum problem as he comes down from the hills in the middle of the night and tears open our garbage bag and scatters stuff 'all over. we have to store our garbage on our patio until'we can find an empty dumpster in our complex.we have five 'dumpsters for two hundred families so we do have problems' there and mr possum is not helping the situation any.

You should buy a trap and catch those possums. I'm not sure what you would do with it after you caught it. I"m sure if it's an ongoing problem the authorities are aware of this and when you catch them, call them and maybe they can get rid of it for you? Thanks for your comment

I think, if you haven't said anything about your neighbour's dog that ddoes really irritate you, you yourself will eventually just can't keep your temper anymore, exploded and get into a fight with your neighbour. I think having a good communication with your neighbour before that happens would be a better idea.

I am annoyed by this and I think it's pretty bad that I can't keep my garbage outside without my neighbors dog getting into it. Even if I leave it out for an hour and say we go to the store, she's into the garbage. Next time she does this I"m not going to clean it up, I"ll let the neighbors clean it then maybe they can realize what their dog is doing. Thanks for your comment

Say something to them... nicely. They may not know that their dog is being a pain. Once you have talked to them, you can use their reaction and solutions to decide what to do next. If they apologize and do something to keep their dog at home, then you know your neighbors care about what their dog does. If they go off on you, or offer an apology with no change in attitude or action.. well, then you know something also.

I was just thinking about leaving the garbage in their yard instead of cleaning it up just to get the message across? My neighbor's dog is huge and looks like a big black bear and she sleeps and lived under their house. They made a hole in the bottom of their house and she just crawls under and sleeps and stays in there but at night that's a different story! I"ll mention it to them and see what happens.. thanks for your advice

If their dog had ripped open the bags and left the trash on their lawn I would have left it there for them to clean up. It is not your problem that their dog ripped up your trash all over their yard. If the dog ripped it up all over my yard I would clean it up but then say something to them about it when I saw them next.

Yes, we do, several dogs in fact. We do have garbage pick-up, but if you leave a bag out of the can, you are doomed. There are cats and dogs in our neighborhood whose owners let them roam freely. And they apparently don't feed them regularly. So, you are almost guaranteed for your bag to be ripped open, especially if food left-overs are inside. It's terrible. But beware if you accidently hit their dog or cat with your car because they ran in front of it...

I deffinitely complain or talk to them about it.But i will clean it up the mess. And if the dog damage them i will show it to the owner. In the better way of talking ofcourse.I will tell them any suggestions on what they can do about it just like learn thier dog a proper manner. For example go to the training for the dogs.I have dog also so i know how difficult it must be to takecare of the dog specially when they are still puppy. My dog damaged a lot of furniture and i have to buy new furniture becouse of her.But its easy here.Becouse what you said is only small chance that is going to happened here.Thats not allowed by law to let your dog running around w/ out that your not around. Greetings from Che!

I got rid of my dog because I didn't need the hastle of replacing things as I"m renting a house and can't afford to surrender my damage deposit plus it's just like having a kid. Not to mention the mess in the backyard when the dog went to the bathroom. I just couldn't do it but now I have to put up with this other dog which I don't even own. She uses our backyard as a toilet as well and that irritates me as my son has no where to play when he's outside.. Just gross. Sorry I"m not a dog person and no offense to you or anyone who likes dogs. I think I'm going to take your advice and complain to them and suggest something. Thanks for your advice
