Do you plan too big of a day?

Well I do! I give myself way too many things to do in a day. I don't know why I do this to myself. When I am stressed I do this double and triple. I have a spiral notebook that I write my daily to do lists in and my goodness! I hardly ever get it all done, I just expect so much out of myself and I should know better by now but I have not learned yet. Then I stress out if I don't get it all done, but what is not done moved to the next day unhappily. How do you handle all you have to do in a day? God bless you!

Well for the past two months it's been absolutely insane for me but I've been managing it pretty well until tonight. I had my first break down after I got a phone call from dad tonight telling me that mom fell again. Hubby and I were at their house just yesterday and cleaned it from top to bottom and we came home. Now I feel terrible because my house needs cleaning some kind of bad but I was too tired to do it today so I slept some of the afternoon away then got that awful phone call. She's ok but it shook me to the core because of feeling guilty for not being there when I should have been. I can only do so much in a day and I know that but I wish I could be there and here at the same time but I can't. It's hard trying to live out my life as one should but knowing I should be there too for my aging parents doesn't sit well with me.

Bless your sweet heart! I have been there and done that and I do know how you feel. You just do what you have to do and remember it was not your fault your mama fell. She could have fallen even if you had been there and been in another room or something. So try not to be so hard on yourself and you do need all the rest you can get in order to keep your strength up. Take care of yourself but I know it is so hard and I do really understand. God bless you and I"m praying for all of you. God bless!

planing so much is not good, what we do should choose the most important thing that can determine your today failure or success, we are ordinary person that have not capability to make all thing best, but we know which one is the best beneficial to today, just like food, shower, brushing teeth, i think food is the best one, so, don't be sad for that ,man . god bless us always.

I don't plan too big. I know precisely what can I do and how many things i can do. the only thing i hate is when something unexpected happens and it ruins plans. on the other i plan big for my summer holidays. i am still a student and so i say to myself: "i have to read this book, and that book, and that book, and i have to learn that and that and that. but also i have to meet with my friends and maybe work a little for extra cash." it's hard, but i try getting over it step by step and focusing on the important stuff first :)

Hi mamacathie,
Good to see a new discussions from you again!I enjoy all of your disscussions. One or two years ago i planned everytime what i have to do in a day.But planning is making me stress, becouse i want to finish all the thing i write down on the list.Make me uncomportable and always have a bad mood.
Then one day i decided not to do planning just to try how it works no cellphone, no nothing, and i started to relax.after that, i decided to stop planning at all.
I just let the day go and enjoy the things that i am doing. Some people said before about me that i am becoming so perfectionist, i even arranged things in row and small to big, i like things clean and in order. But that kind of habits is stressing me.I am glad i change it.
Greetings from Che!

Hey, Che! Thanks for your encouraging words. I, too, get so stressed knowing all the things I want to get done. I am going to slow down and let things happen as they happen because if I have a big day planned and something causes me to have to change my plans I get so much more stressed and I am so tired of all that. Thanks for the encouraging words! God bless!

Not really because i dont really plan stuff ahead unless if its like a main event in the day.and if its like two things during the same time then i try to fit both in a possible as i can.

i think i am as well... sometimes... but i try to relax down a bit now and just do thing one thing at a time... i accomplish more by doing it that way rather than trying to hurry everything up... take care and have a nice day...

I wish I could slow myself down to get one thing done before starting another thing. I get so many projects started and work a little on all of them and really get overwhelmed! God bless and thanks for the post.

Right at this moment, I'm handling it by sitting here on myLot and thinking about it! But I know what you mean, I get overwhelmed at times so I try to take it in small stages.
I need to trim a bush outside. I'll probably start by finding the hedgeclippers and that will mean being distracted by the mess in the garage which I'll start cleaning up then remember the task at hand. I'll take the clippers and get a glass of water then decide I should do the dishes. After I do them I'll go get the clippers and start the bush but will see weeds that need pulled then need some more water and see that I need to sweep the floor. By then I'll see the stove is dirty and remember I forgot to make the bed. When I finish those things, I'll go to the bathroom and notice my sink needs cleaning.
You get the idea...I'll be lucky if that bush gets trimmed by the time I go to bed!

I used to thrive on making plans, and every night I would plan my next day, putting so many little jobs in on top of going to work .Then if I couldnt finsh all of the jobs tat i had given myself I used to get disappointed ..but the only thing that was gained from that was that I was always tired!!setting my sights too high was exhausting work...but these days im much less organised and I tend to just do a little bit when i choose rather than planning anything...and its much better...and lol im not continually letting myself down!!

I love your attitude. I am going to do that more often because I say so exhausted all the time because I know of all I need/want to get done. You just make the "light bulb" come on in my head. Thanks, ruby222, and God bless you!

You sound like me. I try to do as much as my energy allows. I find that if I take afew breaks now and then it helps. I try to stick to one room at a time if I'm cleaning. When I feel myself lagging behind, I push myself a little more, finish a little more and have a great feeling of accomplishment when I'm done. If I'm not done I try my best to not let it get to me, it's not worth the worry, life is too short, enjoy it!!!Go out and enjoy nature!!!

Yes, if we leave this old world tomorrow, we won't miss what we didn't get done any way. LOL And someone else would definitely do it totally different or re-do what we had done anyway. LOL Thanks for posting and God bless!

Yes, I do this. Not as much as I did before, but it still happens. I used to be able to go and go. Since I became disabled I have slowed down quite a bit. The better I do, the more optimistic my goals. Sometimes they are too optimistic...lol. So I try not to make solid plans for the day, that way I don't feel like it was a failure if I don't get to it all. Ill plan a couple of "must be done" tasks and the rest are "if I get to it" chores. Otherwise, as you said, I get stressed and it starts the following day off on the wrong foot.

I don't like my daily list to get messed up but I do know that it is apt to get all rearranged and I am trying to get used to not getting stressed if I didn't get it done that day. Thanks for posting and God bless.
