I Thought I killed Sebastian

For those who do not know Sebatian is our one year old Maltese Puppy. He has been sleeping with Jenny since she came home from surgery. The night before last I was asleep and I rolled over and woke up because I felt something lumpy against my back. I rolled back over and sat up. Felt down to find a lifeless form of our puppy beside me. I picked him up and he was just limp. I shook him and said wake up oh please wake up. He did not respond. I woke Lori up and said I think Sebastian is dead. She grabbed him and he just lay limply in her hands. All of a sudden he jerked up, jumped out of her hands and ran to Jenny's room and jumped up with her and hid against the wall and glared at me with evil eyes saying "Why did you wake me up. I was sleeping so soundly.".... He had just been in a really deep sleep. I was so relieved that he was ok and had a hard time getting back to sleep. What a tragedy that would have been. Sigh!

Yikes! Are you re-thinking sleeping with him in your bed?

He usually does not sleep in our bed. I do not know when or why he decided to jump up on our bed that night. I know he hasn't since then.

Aw! What a trauma you went thru, just thinking that you smothered him. We once had a litter of kittens under our bed and for some reason one of them would climb up and try to sleep with us. I got so freaked out we would roll over on the fluffy ball of fur that I moved the whole lot of them to another romm! Glad your pup is okay Hugs The Imp

I would have to say that would have given me a scare in a half if that was me and the dog did that. I am an animal lover so any animal that would have done what your puppy did I would have been all nervious. It's good to know that he was ok and just in a deep sleep. I can see where your heart was pounding a mile a minute though.

I am an animal lover also and it did really have my heart going a thousand beats a minute. His obviously wasn't. He was so relaxed and calm.

Haha! I'd have probably been hysterical if that'd happened to me! I once freaked out because it looked like my dog wasn't breathing and didn't move when I shook her. When she woke up, she looked at me, moaned, and flopped back down into a lifeless state. I'm so glad your pup survived the roll! He probably didn't even notice.

That is funny that yours just looked up at you and then went right back to sleep.

I am so glad he is ok. I have had that happen many times in my life with various cats and a little pekingese/pug mix that used to get on my bed once in awhile too.

He is family. In fact we tell the girls if it was a choice between them and him he would win the race by a long shoot.

Oh my goodness, I bet you nearly had a heart attack when you thought Sebastian was a goner. I've had that happen with my cats...sometimes they sleep so soundly that I too think they're "gone", and I do the same thing....shake a bit, yell out their name..then bingo they wake up look at me like I'm nuts and saying "Hey, why did you wake me?"

lol this is really very funny. i'm sure sebastian is pulling a fast one on you. puppies are puppies and love to play. maybe he knew you are worried and decided to play along. for all you know he might be awake all these while. my cats do the same thing to me too. they'd pretend to be unconcious but actually peeking at my worried face under their eyelids. cheers :D

I do not think he was playing. He was surely in a very sound sleep. But he has done this type of thing when he does play. He is the funniest dog I have ever had.

Surprisingly he forgives me really fast. If any one else had done this to him he would avoid them for days. I guess he is used to me torchering him because I am the one who brushes him each day. Which is a challenge in itself.

It would have been devistating for every one in the family. And I would have been labeled a puppy killer for the rest of my life.

LOL! That is not funny. I am sure this was very scary for you. Maltese puppies are great. They make excellent dogs. I used to have a yorkie named Sebastian. I am really glad you did not kill your new puppy.

They are the greatest dogs. After having him I would not want any other bread. My Mom had a Yorky when I was growing up. That dog had it in for me for some reason. And yes it was really scary to think I almost killed our sweet dog.

Oh dear. That would have been terrible. I'm so relieved for you. I don't know if I would be able to forgive myself if I ever accidentally cause harm to my doggie.
