Independence day is my favorite day of the year. I love the fireworks displays and the festivals that are always going on at this time of year. I usually go to a big festival close to home but am hoping one year to hit a big one at the capital or some place with the real American history like Boston. I am having a hard time finding my local information this year and hope they are still having the big celebrations like usual. I would love to hear stories of what you do for the 4th of July and some of the awesome things to see and do in your area

I will be sitting at home, probably online, trying to console my old dog while my idiot neighbors spend the evening setting off fireworks (they are illegal in my city). The poor dog gets so scared I am afraid he's going to have a heart attack!
Enjoy the fireworks :)

I hope that your neighbors don't drive you and your dog to crazy. Maybe you will get lucky this year and they will not shoot them off and if they do maybe they won't last to long. I hope you enjoy your Independence day.

Thanks :) I am okay with it all, I have lived in this house for fifteen years or so and even though the neighbors have changed the fireworks routines have not LOL
I just let the dog come in the house and let him stay close to me and he is okay. He's a large dog but he's also a big chicken LOL

It sounds like you have fun. Every $th of July my children and grandbabies in Mississippi come up for the week. We cook out and have tons of fireworks that least for a few hours. We are also close to the beach area that the air force base puts on their display along with all of the ones around my neighborhood at this time. They all conenside with each other and we watch all of the fireworks.
We ladies like the very colorfull fire works, so do the children.
The men of course like the loud ones. One year we had one of the tanks that goes on the road or a flat surface. It misfired and I left the road chasing everyone around the yard. That was freaky, lol.
We have a good old family get together for a week.

It sounds like you all have a great time during the fourth. I would love to be by the beach and see an air show on the fourth of July. I bet that is totally awesome. We just got back not to long ago from Pensacola beach and at Navarre they had a fireworks show we got to see it was so awesome. The Blue angels were out of town at that time so I did not get to see them. It sounds so cool getting to see your neighbors fireworks, your fireworks, and the air forces show during the fourth. There is nothing better than a great BBQ to go with it all. We all ohhh and awwwe over the colorful ones. My youngest ran off terrified at the Navarre ones this last time. The loud bangs scared him. I bet the tank thing was freaky. I Hope you and your family have a wonderful Independence day.

Thanks a lot travi. Yes, the tank thing was really freaky, we have not bought any more of them, lol.
I talked to my son today and asked him to get us some shrimp and fish freah from a boat and bring it up with him. He said he could do that. That will be great having seafood this year.
I hope you all have a wonderful Independence Day.

Oh man I love fresh fish. Shrimp on the barbie omg It is my favorite. Are you going to grill shrimp and fish? That is making my mouth water all ready. Man I know what I need to be doing at least for lunch that day lol. You may have talked into the cookout part of the fourth. I haven't done that in a long time on that day. My mouth is still watering.

I have to work that whole weekend, so I won't be doing anything. Normally I would have a BBQ and invite family and friends over, and we would have some fireworks.

Oh I am sorry you will have to work. BBQ, family, and fireworks are a great way to spend the fourth. It seems to be the main activity so far from what I have seen by my post. I hope that your work that weekend is easy and that your boss shows you some appreciation for working on that weekend.

Well this year we are staying at home. We are having my family come over to our house and do a big cookout. We are also having everyone buy a little bit of fireworks, including us. So hopefully we will have quite a bit of fireworks. We usually don't go out to anything because the traffic gets so bad on that day it is not worth it. One year I think we ended up spending like an hour or two just in traffic. The fireworks display was nice but it wasn't long at all. Plus from my house I can see a few of the ones from a fireworks display, some years more than others. So that is what we are doing this year, having a cookout and do some fireworks with our whole family. Hope you enjoy your 4th of July.

It sounds like you are going to have a great time spending it with family. You are right the traffic does take some of the fun out of going to the bigger shows in town. It is vvery cool that you will be able to see some of them from your house. I hope you have an awesome fourth of July as well, thank you.

Hi travibabiesgirl!
On independence day I will be celebrating my birthday! I will go to the city and visit my family and celebrate my birthday with them. You see here in the Philippines July 4 is Filipino -American Friendship Day (Fil-Am Day). June 12 is our Independence Day.

Well happy early birthday to you. What a grand day to have a birthday on. It sounds like you will have fun for sure on that day. Thank you for sharing the information on the Filipino-American friendship day. I did not know this. What do you do there for your Independence day on June 12th?

Thanks! We also had a celebration in our house last June 12. It's the birthday of my mom. But our country also celebrates June 12 with fireworks and a show somewhat like a drama recreating how the Philippines had its independence during the war. The event is televised nationwide and all government officials are there in the audience. All houses and establishments would hang the Philippine flag usually for the whole month of June to celebrate the Independence Day.

I'll probably be doing the same thing I've done the last two years. Since my s/o has the 4th off, we'll probably cook something on the grill, take the dog to the river, and just chill. Our fireworks here are not done until Saturday evening, and he has to work Saturday evening, at another fireworks show and festival, he's in law enforcement.....so, me and the dog sit outside and watch the fireworks, since we can see them clearly from our house.

That sounds like a great Fourth of July day. Spending time with your S/O grilling and a day at the river. I wish our festivities would be on the day after. My family always wants to have a get together and shoot off fireworks and then my in laws do as well but everyone wants to do it on the fourth and I want to go to the big festivities in town on that night. I can't be every where at once and they all want to pressure me into coming to theirs. I bet your S/O is busy for sure on the night of the festival. I would think that being in law enforcement you would really have to love your job in order to do it. You are lucky in being able to see the fireworks from your yard. We live out of town and are surrounded by hills and hollows with trees. I can hear lots of them going off around us but I can not see them. It drives me crazy lol. I go out and look but can only hear the loud booms. I hope that you have a wonderful time both on the fourth and fith.

Having cookouts with the family is always fun. I guess I didn't realize that you could watch fireworks on tv. I will have to see if I can find them and record them for later. Thanks for sharing and have a great fourth with your family.

Wow fireworks on a monday is really odd. Will you go watch them? Are you going to have your own during your cook out? Cook outs are always fun and even more so for the Fourth of July. I hope that you and your son have a great Independence day.

We will have the family over for a BBQ and our own fireworks. We live way out in the country, so we can shoot off fireworks without disturbing any neighbors. My sons (both in their 20's) really had a blast last year, making noise. Since we live in an earth sheltered home, they can go up on our grass roof and shoot the rockets off from there over the valley out in front of the house. Last year I was picking up bottle rocket sticks and bits of paper for months after the 4th! It was sure alot of fun though.

A family BBQ is always fun and shooting off your own fireworks is also a great fun thing to do. We might have to try to shoot some of our own off. The kids always seem to enjoy that more than anything else. Earth sheltered home sounds really cool. It sounds neat for someone to say they shot fireworks off their grass covered roof. My daughter loves bottle rockets as well but they sure do make a mess. You are right though it is a lot of fun. It sounds like you all will have a great holiday. I hope you have a wonderful time this Fourth of July.

We will be attending local festivities as well. Unfortunately the firework displays have been cut down to almost nothing. The local group that always put them on simply says the rising cost of the insurance makes them unable to do what they have in the years past. That and some greedy people wanted to sue them because they were afraid the vacant building behind the park might catch on fire due to the ashes. Even though it never has in 30 years, I guess these people were hoping to make a buck off the building they can't get rid of.
I think too many people just take the 4th of July for granted. I am not sure everyone truly appreciate what real independence we have. Thanks for the post.

Oh I am sorry to hear that the fireworks will be cut down this year. I hate that people get sue happy. Some people will sue over the most stupid reasons out of greed and laziness. It is true many people do take the fourth of July for granted these days just like some think Memorial day is a three day weekend to drink and party. I hope that you enjoy your festivities on the fourth and have a wonderful Independence day.
