I put a pizza in the oven and sat here and commented on a couple discussions and all of a sudden I looked and my whole kitchen was full of smoke. Actually, so was the room I'm sitting in, but I didn't even notice! Lol.
So I went in and the pizza wasn't done yet, so I took a spatula and scraped up the peice of cheese that fell onto the bottom of the oven and I thought that was causing the problem.
But I came back in here and it got worse!
I'm actaully eating the pizza now, and it didn't burn, but the house is all smoky and stinky!
Don't you hate it when that happens????!!!!!

I am always forgetting that I put something on the stove. I get busy and involved and then that is the end of ot! I do that with the washing machine too. Start it and then find something else to do and go back to put the clothes in the dryer to find none there. LOL.

Oh yea, I know what you mean. Clothes washing is a regular part of my daily multi-tasking routine. Lol.
I love to know that the washer is doing work in one room while I am doing something else in another room.
But lots of times I forget to go back...
and the next day, my son is looking for a certain shirt and I say 'Check the dryer' but we find it is still wet in the washer!
Sometimes I leave clothes in the washer too long and it makes them smell bad, so I have to wash them again!!

I had something similar happen just a couple of minutes ago. I was cooking beans and I checked them about 10 minutes ago and they were fine. After I wrote out my last response, I went to check on them again and the water was all boiled out and the beans were burning on the bottom or the pan. I was still able to salvage them, though, and will be eating them in the next fifteen minutes or so.

Lol, Isn't it funny when something happens to you at the same time it happens to someone else on Mylot?
That happened to me a couple times. Something happened to me and I came here to mylot and saw someone just posted a discussion about it!

Hi momalisa65,
The house may be a wreck with all the smoke and stuff, but the most important thing above all else is - you SAVED THE PIZZA!!!
So all's well that ends well, and it's a happy ending for all.
Seriously, even if the house burned down around your ears and you got engulfed by a plague of locusts, it really wouldn't be all that bad so long as you had your juicy pizza to munch on...

That is so annoying! I love pizza and cherish my weekly one. I'm so fussy about overdone pizza yet often end up answering the phone or running a bath or doing something just before my pizza burns to a crisp. At least your was still edible. Once when I was a student I got a real bargain pizza that looked delicious. While it was cooking I couldn't resist taking it out of the oven for a peek. Didn't i flip it over by accident and watch in dismay as it fell face down on the kitchen floor! I was so upset and went to bed hungry!

I did that once! Two of my friends were coming around and I made a pizza and garlic bread. When they got to my house I went outside to show them a litter of baby rabbits and totally for got about them being in the oven! Wen we got back into the house about 30 mintues later the garlic bread was toally burnt!! It was rock hard!!! hahaha!!

Awww...I hate to burn garlic bread! At least pizza I can usually eat even if it's burnt. But it doesn't work that way with garlic bread.

I have done similar to this a few times, it is easy to get carried away on here I think when this happens to us Mylot should compensate us by taking us out to dinner, what do you reckon...

That happened to me once.
I didn't have MyLot at the time.
You'd be surprised how easily tomato
sauce or cheese on the bottom of the
stove smokes up the place.
Now I just put my pizza on the George
Foreman machine and prop the lid.
Takes about ten minutes to get crispy,
day one tasting pizza.
Not soggy like microwave. Doesn't use
so much energy like oven.

I actually burn pizza everytime I cook it, everytime. I can check it and check it and it is fine and then by the time I go back a few minutes later, burnt. It has never smoked up the whole house though luckily, it does stink though when it is burnt.

Every time? That's too bad. Maybe there's something wrong with your oven?

Well yes if it was to happen. I hardly cook pizza when I am on the computer.. It does cook pretty fast, I will admit! Pizza in the oven usually is done by 30 minutes or a little less than that.. I do hate it when any food of mines burns up on the stove or oven.. I know that you planned on eating it.. What a bummer.. Well at least you were able to come back to myLot, to tell us this story..

I ate the pizza too! Somehow the pizza didn't burn too bad. It must have been some cheese that fell off and was burning on the bottom of the oven.
Whatever it was I couldn't find it, but it sure was smoking!

Oh that's quite funny! For a while I thought your pizza got burnt because you were so engrossed on myLot. Apparently, it's just the cheese. If I were you, I wouldn't even have bothered scraping off the burnt cheese. I don't mind letting it burn and causing lots of smoke as long as my pizza is delicious. :)

I love pizza and now am in the mood . Many times somehow my pizza cheese has ran and made the whole house smoke . I have done it with many other foods to and think , oh no , I have burnt it . The only thing I really do burn is cookies and one time a roast . ( first time cooked one never added juices or water , just did it once) What a dummy , but I was younger . Anyway , uggg !! I hate the smell it will leave . Makes me sick !

This is so funny! It really brings back memories. Just last night, my husband put on some bologna to fry for a sandwich and he walked outside to see something with the grandsons. Well, I walked out, too, forgetting the bologna. I came back in and he was taking out black bologna, burned to a crisp!
What caused your smoke if the pizza wasn't burned? I know I have let something boil over in the oven and it would smoke us out of the house.

Ohhh, man I feel your pain.
That's no fun, and no pizza.
Bummer
I tend to ruin things in the microwave and toaster.
I saw a comedy act by Eddie Izzard that I am remembering on this subject: "the toast has an attitude problem". He went on to tell how the toast lies about the "done" time. It's either under-done, or over-done. Grrrrrr.

Mmmmm pizza! LOL! That happens to me ALL the time! I go to do something for just a second and then stuff burns or spills, etc. I'm glad your pizza didn't get burned though! It is very easy to get wrapped up in stuff here on mylot that's for sure!

Yes I've had this done to me on both the stove top and the oven both a few times. It just turned out that there was stuff on the burner parts from previouse cooking times. Once I really cleaned it up good it didn't happen again. I know I had to lock the cat up in the bathroom and open all the windows wide open to let the smoke out. I went around spraying air fresher for the burning smokey smell bugged me. I'm glad that you caught it in time and you still got to eat your pizza.
