I am doing my articles again so not much time for this site, though I try to keep in touch by offering a discussion now and then,
Normally I hate the noise of honking horns, and there is actually a city bylaw here against them,
but every now and again I make an exception.
The car horns were honking like crazy yesterday and it put me in a good mood.
You see it meant somebody was getting married and they were coming down my street.
It has been years since I heard that sound and it felt good.
Do you hate the honking of car horns?
Is there a bylaw in your city about them?
Do you have the custom to honk horns after a couple just got married?
Did you do that when you got married (I don't think we did, to be honest I don't even remember).

I don't seem to hear horns honk as often as in the past. I also like to hear the horns honking when there is a happy occasion. Out here where I live it is usually when the high school football team wins a home game or the same with the baseball team. I don't like when someone pulls up to a house and sits out in the car honking trying to get someone to come out. I also don't like horns honking when someone is upset while driving.

Hiya Winterose....
No I don't honk cause why would i want to attract attention to myself..LOL...but i don't mind it since i usually get it from people cause i have a sticker on my car that says "Honk For Hemp"...now what i don't like is people who have sensitive car alarms and then leave after they are parked in front of my store and every time a loud truck goes by it goes off so I'm left to hear it with its whining irrating shriek..why even bother..they don't hear it..but i sure do...

Usually it annoys the heck out of me, especially if my baby is falling asleep and cars honk!! But if someone is getting married, or if a sports team has won and people are driving around and honking and screaming for their team with flags (we do that here for soccer such as the Euro cup or the Fifa World cup) then i don't mind, cuz i do it myself. As for when we got married, i don't remember even though it's not even 3 years now (it'll be in octobe) but i was soooooo exhausted and sick with a bronchitis on our wedding day, i was falling asleep in the limo after the church ceremony, so can't remember if they were honking, but i think they were.

This was a great discussion!!! Please start as many as your heart desires. I enjoy responding to them, and now hat I've got my notifications turned on, I can respond right when you tart them, if I'm infront of my computer, which I almot always am, during the day.
As for horns, I don't mind hearing them at all, provided I'm not tanding right next to them. Tey are annoying when I am standing at the bus stop, or when the students are out at night, or in a traffic jam, but under the cirumstanes that you metioned, I absolutely love them!

Hi!
No I don't dislike honking horns in the way you mentioned.
But, when I am driving and there is a traffic jam, then I hate the sound of honking horns.
Because the people are all irritated.
You cannot fly other the other cars.
This kind of honking makes me very nervous.
On the other hand , here in Berlin when the football matches are playing. Lots of people drive around, honking, screaming, but in a happy way. I like that.
When I hear it with a marriage, I get sad, and hope these people realize what they are doing. LOL!
Take care, Margajoe

Hi,
Ja, at that minute I am sad.
Because I have seen so many people change when
they get married.
Or they get divorced shortly after.
When befor they were together for years and all of a
sudden it's gone.
When I look around me, there are not many married people
that are happy.
I would like to see more of these happy couples.
But, unfortunately I cannot say I see many happy married
couples.
People who live together, seem to be more happy with each other. I think because they don't claim each other.
My BF, would like us to get married.
But I have been married before for 9 years. Those were
terrible years.
Maybe I am just afraid for these people.
Take care, Margajoe

Umm, I hate it when I am trying to sleep or concentrate on things or listn and can't cause the tooting of the horn. I don't think they are a noise horn ordinance where I live of course it is far from town where most ordinances are. My borther in law next door has a horn problem. it being he honks the thing alot especially if he forgot somehting and want someone to bring it to him, he will honk till they answer and goodness if they are in the bathroom and can't rush out to do his bidding because he honks and honks..Nope we didn't honk the horn when we were married. I don't know of anyone who did in my family but I hav seen it done with a whole line of cars following honking also..

your brother in law needs someone to honk their horn on purpose and bother him!

It really doesn't bother me, mainly because I don't hear them that often. I think I rather hear a honking of a horn, than someone going down my street with their music blaring, or the thumping of the bass. We don't have that custom of honking of horns when a couple gets married in my state, nor did we do it when I got married. Only time you hear horns honking around here, is when a driver makes another driver mad. It's like giving the other driver the finger, in a nicer fashion.

I've always been where people honk their horns. I have been married twice and both times we honked horns. Other passing vehicles have always honked back. It's supposed to be a happy day and this is just one way that makes people smile or perhaps laugh.

Once again i must say that i have found a good discussion. See Winterose, the Limit of our freedom is up to the tip of other person;s nose. You can wield your hand in fury or even threat the other person to hit his nose, but that does not matter. But once if it hits.. then the damn thing..
When once if it involves the liberty and freedom of another individual.. be it honking of horn or anything is a barbaric act.

What an interesting tradition.
I think I've heard of that one before.
Ordianarily I would mind honking horns, but
for such an occasion, I think it would
be fine.
What an interesting way to welcome a newlywed
couple into the state of matrimony!

The horn thing doesn't bother me. I'm not sure if there is a law against it in the state that I live in though. I will have to check and see about that. As far as horns hooking for a wedding after they have been married I knew nothing about. I have been to very few weddings so that is something new to me. Then next time I go to one I will see if they hook when they drive off together. Have a good one.

I don't remember about when we got married, it was 40 years ago, but when my son got married last December, we followed him for quite some distance honking the horn all of the way.. He later told me, "Mom, I thought you were going to follow us all the way to the honeymoon suite".. It is a happy honking, the ones that make me crazy are the ones that honk their horn 1/10th of a second after the light turns to green, now that makes me crazy.. Have a great evening winter..

When there a happy ocassion like a wedding, a ball game or some thing like that is is just fine, and if am in the area I go out and cheer with them also.
It annoys me when a car horn is stuck and makes noise continually, and sometimes in the midst of traffic when you cant budge, or if someone is honking for a senseless reason.

haha, when i read the subject of your discussion i thought u meant the guys who honk at girls on the street because i get this daily!!! and it really annoys me,even the bus driver honked at me,and the bus was full of people looool...so it makes me feel really uncomfortable.. and now that i think about it i will start a topic of my own on this subject,to hear some other girls experiences and opinions too:)
and now to answer your question, yes people here honk alot, every saturday there r weddings,if there is not about the weddings is about getting the girls attention on the street and if it's not that either then it is in traffic or at the traffic lights..
so i kind of got used to them:)

Hi there winterose, good thing that you can spend even a little of your time here...Anyway, about your topic, we don't have any law about that in our Country and that is very common especially in small cities here especially young ones. I don't really mind them as long as I am not near to them..We also don't have that custom during the wedding and I haven't experienced witnessing any of that..I am sure that is very exciting and lots of fun, since it will catch a lot of attention!

I don't exactly hate honking but car corns when blasted continuously really do irritate me. I can understand it if there are emergency situations or when someone suddenly crosses the street while you are driving, these sort of things.
what irritates me most are the honking cars when all cars are stopping due to traffic or when someone wants his gate opened by somebody else. I'm sure there is a much saner alternative to do rather than blow a horn in these cases.

Car horns are a lousy and irritating thing.
First of all the car alarms they have these days have the horns blaring out of control if a cat passes by a parked car.
In Port of Spain, just around 8.30 or 9.00 am there's a huge sounding of sirens coming through the city every single day as the police escort the prison vans carrying prisonners to court through the city.
There used to be a regulation that police officers cannot use their sirens unless it was an emergency.
Now they use them to get through traffic - all the time.
This morning I was travelling through heavy traffic to return to my office and there was this extremely loud and heavy sounding horn behind the taxi I was in as a trailer pulling a 40 ft container raced past to get in line ahead of us.
I truly believe no one knows how much of an oaf they are when they blow their horns at somebody.
Its like telling somebody on the street - " Get out of my way ! "
And its ridiculous !

I've never heard of that custom, and I don't think we have that kind of bi-law, but car horns do annoy me. It's especially annoying if they are very very loud or those wimpy little things. What is worse though, is that around my apartments, there are more than a few people with car alarms that are those ones that just make the sound of their horn honking perpetually. Man is that annoying! I can't stand it! The other day, something made like three car alarms go off and only one was a normal one, so I heard these two horns and the siren-like alarm going off all at the same time and it was really giving me a headache! Lol I don't blame you for feeling good about the wedding thing though. That is a special occasion.

I hate the honking when it is out of rudness when you are driving on the road .When I was in New York city I just got used to the sound ,but was in shock the first day I was there.
I usually never hear beeps when I am at home .Maybe sometimes late at night when the rest of the world is sleeping and my window is open I will hear all that noise.
Atleast once a week we have a teen who drives by and nonstop beeps till he gets to the house he is looking for and his friend will jump in the car .If his friend isnt there he will just keep beeping .This is usually in the evenin and at first it drove me crazy and now I just will laugh.
