My new kitten died yesterday R.I.P Jinx

Hey everyone yesterday was a terrible day for me yesterday, and I'm still feeling the effects of it today.
My kitten Jinx ran away two days ago and after hollering and yelling his name he never returned at all. This weekend I had to work nightshifts so I wasn't able to do much of a search except just call out his name and go for short walks around the house to see if he was around.
Yesterday (Sunday) I woke up being still groggy, I sat down in the living room thinking where our little Jinx could be when I looked out on the road and seen something laying there. At first I thought it was mud as he is dark. I said to my hubby OMG was is that on the road? Immediately I put my shoes on and walked towards it. As I was closely approaching this lifeless lump on the road we realized it was our Jinx
We made our way to him and then knew it was really him. My face when three shades of white and the ground felt like it fell from under my feet.
I thought cats were suppose to have nine lives? Who was this idiot driving so fast and hit our Jinx?
I was so upset I didn't even realize my son was following us as we didn't want him to see Jinx this way but he did. He started asking questions as I was trying to answer my own. He's only 8 years old and still doesn't quite understand the concept of death yet.
My other older cat is back to his loveable self. For some reason he lost his loving feeling when the kitten was here. He's been staying by my side through it all and I think he knows something's wrong. I see him looking out the window quite frequently and I"m wondering if he's asking also where Jinx is?
Have you had a cat die and how did you properly greive this? I need some kind of explanation as I've never experienced this type of loss before.
Thanks all who respond

Awww, that is really sad for you. I do have a similar story.
My mom used to work at a place called Sigma 4. I forget what it was but I know she did saudering and her boss was Indian, as in from India. That is not meant as a racist remark, it's just part of the little bit I remember from that time. I think his name was Saresh or something like that. Anyway, she took me to work with her this one day and while we were there, we found this kittin outside the office. Now mind you there was no residences around and the kitten was very very young and out shivering on a cold day. We brought him in and wrapped him in a towel and put him in a box and I took care of him while they went back to work. Saresh wanted us to name him Sigma after the company and we did for a while. He seemed to get better as he got warmer and had something to drink. We took him home and gave him some milk and all. We changed his name later because we really hated Sigma. The Lion King had just recently came out so we decided to call him Simba. He only lived for about a day. I assume being out in that cold had gotten to him more than we thought. We were all very upset, even though we'd only had him a little while. We buried him on the side of the house we were living in at the time, where he still should be. I loved that little kitten and I'll never forget him, despite the fact that he was with us for such a short time. My advice is to try and explain the situation to your son in words that he will udnerstand, but don't sugar coat it too much. Eight is more than old enough to start understanding those things, unless he has some sort of mental condition or is immature for his age. But if he is your typical eight year old, he is old enough to handle it I think. I would say to bury the little kitten if you haven't already and keep him in your heart and thoughts. If you never forget him then he is never really gone.

hi zhuuraan,
Thanks for the lovely story. You are so kind to have looked after that hopeless little kitten. Simba is a nice name. Suprisingly my son took it alright and didn't cry at all. When our older cat killed our fish he cried, and he wasn't even close to that pet and that's why I'm wondering about how he is feeling. Is he bottling it up inside? We haven't buried the kitten yet but I want to do that beside our house. I just can't come to do that as I'm having a hard time accepting this whole thing. I'm going to get my hubby to do it after he gets home from work.
Thanks for your comment

Glad your son is taking it alright. How long ago did the fish die? Cuz if it was long enough ago, he may have matured a bit since then. Even if it wasn't all that long, kids mature a lot more quickly than adults so he may be beginning to understand it more. I don't know just a thought.

I can soo understand that because, believe it or not, i also had a kitten named Jinx, and he got ran over by some jerk. My step dad kicked us out, my mom's car engine blew up, and our kitten got ran over. I am still crying even though it was 5 weeks ago. I can understand! (And i'm 12!)

I'm sorry for you lose of you little one. I know that you were hoping to find Jinx but that was something that you could not prevent. One thing i have learned is that animals really don't know how to cross the street. Then you have drivers that drive and don't look until it's to late. I have had that happen to me. Driving late on night down a country road and hit a dog. The bad thing was I didn't have my highbeams on and the dog was black. I didn't see the dog until i got up on it. I felt bad about that the whole way home and after that I started driving slower on the road at night cause deers come out too and cross the road. Just know that Jinx is in a better place and when you feel better about it get another kitten. Not to replace Jinx but to keep your son happy from the lost of Jinx. As for yourself we all know that no one lives for ever and we have to go on no matter what.

hi twallace,
I don't think we're going to get another cat but we still have our older cat who has been a big help by just keeping me company and sitting nearby with me through this whole mess.
It's nice to hear a comment from someone who has actually hit an animal. It kind of helps me realize that all drivers aren't that bad, and actually have a feeling of that they did something wrong.
Thanks and nice to hear from you

This is soo sad. I been there. I had a cat who got hit by a car twice. 1st time he was 2 yrs old he was lucky and had a pin put in his leg and healed then he was 6 yrs old got hit by a car again. he had surgery to relocate his pee hole that went ok then month later his urine was eating his skin and he was stuffering. we had to put him to sleep. that time i was about 13 yrs old. oh I cried and missed him terribly for so long. he was once of the best cat. his name was 50. we would call him and he comes right to the door. how old was you little Jinx? I know it makes me made when people drive to fast. If i see any animal ahead, I try to avoid them and slow down. We had another cat blue then. then some how we got another cat named him "Dude" I know its hard but hang in there.

Thank you 48,
Jinx was only 4 months old. His curiosity got the best of him I guess and so did that driver. Your cat 50 sounded like he went through quite a time with getting hit a couple times. That is so sad and I can imagine what pain you must have felt. Sorry for your loss. It's nice to think about them though and what happiness they brought.

I feel really sorry for what happened with your kitten. May her soul rest in peace.
All the new Pet trainers, you should know the correct way of raising a kitten. Its very important to take care of your Kitten's food and regular routine basis. The way they eat, the way they walk, the way they spend the day, the way they do their works, the way they run after things, the way they play, its all important to be observed by a trainer. If any of the above are not observed correctly, it may lead to bad results. So take care of your cats and keep them healthy.

First I want to say I am so sorry for your loss. 3 years ago our beloved 2 year old cat Moe passed away. He was perfectly healthy the last time we had him to the vet, and he adored our daughter who was 8 months old. He was laying outside her bedroom door where he always slept when I got my daughter up. He didn't move which I thought was a little odd, but then he was a sound sleeper. I went to work and came home 5 hours later and took my daughter upstairs for a nap to find Moe still laying in hte same spot. I put my hand on him and I knew he was gone. I screamed and cried and was devastated. I called my FIL and he came over with a box to put Moe in and when my husband got home from work he buried him at my in laws house. To this day it still brings tears to my eyes to think about him. Each person grieves in their own way, so there is no right or wrong way.

I had one little kitten my kids found in the flood. They rescued it and I took care of it. I called her Miracle. It was still a baby. I cleaned her everyday and fed her and cleaned her basket. Then one day one of my kids put a cat powder on her and it was for big cats. I think she accidentally digested it. Before I slept she was still alive then when I woke up she was so hard already. I had to have her buried before I went to work and I was so sad. All my time and effort to keep this little kitten alive came out to nothing. I know my kids didn't mean to hurt the kitty but It really was a sad thing that happened. I am sorry for your loss. I hope you get over it soon.

Hi p3,
Thanks for your story and concern it means a lot. I can understand how you must have felt when your kids accidently killed the cat. I'm sure they didn't know better. That must have been a very sad thing and I'm sorry for your loss as well. I can tell you are a very kind person because you took that kitten under your wing and took care of it.

We have lost our cats a few of them and a few dogs as well. Since they were close, loving family...our babies it was extremely difficult losing them. We burried them and said words over their grave. I have some of their things that I keep. Favorite toy, scarf, the first toy of this or that, etc.
It takes time for the pain to be less. But it has never went away.

I am really sorry to hear of Jinx passing it is sad how drivers just run over an animal in front of a house and leave it there instead of coming to the door and asking if it was your pet. I had a kitty die once it was hard and it took m awhile to get over it, it just gets easier with time.

Hi luvstochat,
I'm also very sorry for your loss. It's very hard to get over something like that because to me, cats are my best friends and very trustworthy. When you need them they are there in someway and just love us unconditionally.
My other cat that got poisoned by our evil neighbor use to lay with me when I was sick with the flu as a kid everytime. He was so comforting. When he was sick and dying all I wanted to do is sit with him and just do what he did for me when I was sick but I could tell he didn't want anyone around as he would growl at us. Poor guy.
I agree with you and how time heals and thanks for your comment and concern

I am so sorry to hear that someone drove too fast and hit
your poor kitten Jinx. Some drivers should not be out on the
road,it could have been a child too, thats just dreadful.
I have never lost a kitten that way thank goodness. But grief is the same for a pet as for a family member and you just have
to muddle through one day at a timeand sooner or later it gets
much easier. but you have to take it one day at a time.

Im very sorry for the loss of your cat Jinx. I also had a cat called Sonic and she was hit by a car,the person driving was actually a vet but there was nothing she could do to save my cat. I wouldnt mind either i had only just let my cat out as she had just had kittens of her own and had been inside for 2 days looking after them. I think of her all the time and its the good times with her that gets me through, i know its hard and she will be looking over you.

I'm so sorry to hear of your cats passing. One thing I do is make sure my cats stay inside. But, accidents can happen I know. I've lost two cats to health/old age. I've had to put both to sleep and I was there with their last breath. Trust me, it isn't easy any way it happens. All you can do is remember the good feelings, and take it a day at a time.

Well today is a brand new day and I"m still feeling terrible about what happened but yesterday was worse I know that it's going to take some time and a lot of it to get through this. It's just that everytime I look out the window I can see the spot where we found him lying there. I think this just makes it a little harder to get over.. more of a challenge.
Sorry for your loss of your two cats too.
I really did try to keep Jinx inside most of the time and I would let him out when I went outside, he use to love climbing the trees and going crazy outside. awwe I miss that already.
Thanks for your comment

Yeah, i also had a kitten named Jinx, (believe it or not) and he got ran over by a truck. It all started because my step dad kicked us out, but we were going to leave anyways. My mom's car engine blew up about 100 miles from our destination, and we had our kitten with us. Well, we called the police to come pick us up, and pretty soon he came and we took Jinx with us. There was a park right behind the police station, so we went there and Jinx kept behind us. We had fun. Then we left after 5 hours because that's how long it was gonna take for my grandpa to pick us up. There was a tunnel and Jinx went in there, and we tried to get him out, and eventually he did. He jumped right into a puddle, and we laughed. He wouldn't let us hold him, so we put him down.We came to the road, and there was another tunnel, so i sat in front of it so he wouldn't go in there. So, he walked up next to the road, and a truck came by. He got freaked out, so he ran right across it. The truck started to slow down like he was gonna stop, but then the jerk sped up and ran over him. I yelled for Jinx, but he didn't stop. The lady said that she was so sorry when she saw me crying. I am only twelve, so that was a pretty bad experience for me to see. Jinx was flopping on the side of the road and he went down the ditch. My mom ran after and wouldn't let me see. It was so upsetting, and i find myself speaking to Jinx when i wake up. =(
