My daughter ia almost three and her hair grows slow. It is only down to her shoulders. I have to put little pig tails in it so she looks like a girl. Their sure is not much there for that. When she was little she had a bald spot on the back of her head that I could not get rid of. It was from her head rubbing on the bed. She would sleep on her back and the little hairs would come in and she would rub them off in her sleep. It will grow with time. I would make sure she is not laying on the back of her head to much so the hair can grow. DId you mean 5 months the baby in the picture does not look 5yrs old?

Congratulation on your beautiful baby girl. She is very pretty. I take it that this is your first baby. Some babies are born with out any hair and some have a full head of hair. The custom of your husband's religion will not affect the growth of your daughters hair. As you have already read every babies hair grows at a different rate. Just be patient because there is nothing you can do to make her hair grow faster. When babies are this age they will rub the hair off when they lay in the same position all the time. But it will eventually grow when she starts sleeping in different positions as she gets older. Just be patient.

All of my babies were born with a full head of hair after a short time most if not all of it feel out. Then came back beautiful hair. Except my daughter, it took a long time for her hair to come back in. I too worried for her. Then it came in.
I know if a child spends much of their laying down time on the back then they tend to rub the head by turning it frequently. In this case they will not have hair in the back of their head. The only thing you can do is limit the timeon their back or in times when the have their head against something.
You have a beutiful baby and I think this may be the case, she's rubbing the back of her head too much on things, ie, the bed, car seat, etc.
The reason I say this is she has hair everywhere else and no problems there.

My little girl's hair started growing lots
when she turned two years old and we could
give her the Flintstones vitamins.
They really helped her hair grow.
But they are not for babies.
Sometimes, it's simply a lack of the right key
nutrient.
There are various nutrients that help the hair grow.
Can't remember what they are now.
Usually the body will put it's energy into hair and nail growth, LAST
and sustain the rest of the body first.
When her body feels as if it is getting an abundance of calories
from food, then it will grow the hair back and it will be beautiful!
Assured!
Be well.
Best of health for you and your baby!
Blessings!

Dear Ashley,
Have you tried giving her oil massage ?
just take a few drops of coconut oil, warm it and then massage on to her scalp very gently because her top of the head will not be strong as yet.
Daily massage her scalp, before giving bath. The hair will come back on its own. Don't worry. slight rubbing will create friction and the hair will start growing again. Do not shave her head every now and then, the growth will get delayed. All the best

Ok, after reading and learning she's 5 months instead of 5 years. This is normal, got to give it time. My oldest was born butt bald, it took her a long time to get hair. I don't want to scare you, but she really didn't get a lot of hair until she turned 4. Best thing is to just keep it clean, and trim around the ends of her hair to get rid of the split ends, and let it grow.
My neighbors little girl is 5 months as well, and she has a small amount of hair on her head, so your sweetie pie isn't the only one with no hair.

I would have refused to cut my baby's hair...that is a silly ritual/custom...it can have no meaning. When my daughter was about 6, she had long thick honey coloured hair that curled right around on the ends. I trimmed her hair one day and decided to cut the curls off as a marker....the curls never grew back!~

My baby is 9 months old and she is also bald but most of us were bald when we were babies so I don't worry that much. My eldest had her first haircut after a year. Traditionally, babies are balded at age 1 but I did not do it with my first born as I don't wanna wait for months to let the hair grow longer again. It does take time so just be patient.

hmm i have never heard of such a custom before hun but i totally understand that you did what your culture tells you to do.
on the other hand i had and stilhave the same problem, my daughter was born bald and her hair did not grow until about a few months back (she is 3 now) even now its very fine and she hardly has any of it, i have spoken to all the doctors about it and they just said it will come with time.
sometimes children differ and it should eventually come thru hun
if you are worried tho go and have a chat with your gp.

Five years? Do you mean five months? Babies sometimes will start losing the hair they were born with around that time anyway and it starts growing back in the way it will actually be. Also, if she lies on her back a lot, it might cause a bald spot on the back of her head, my daughter had one when she was an infant. It does go away when babies get older and no longer spend so much time sleeping or lying on their backs.
Don't worry, hair growth tends to be genetic. Some babies are born bald and don't have hardly any hair, even when they are two. Some babies are born with tons of hair and end up with enough to make six wigs with by the time they enter school. =)

When my oldest daughter was born she had a full head of red hair, then it all fell out and she was completely bald. I don't remember how long it was before the new hair grew in but it was blonde, instead of red. Don't worry so much about your baby's hair. If she is healthy it will grow in at it's own rate and she have a full head of hair.

Most babies will lose their hair shortly after birth. Also a factor in her hair not growing on the back of her head, if you follow the recommendation of putting your child to bed on her back then this would explain the lack of hair in the back. Most babies I see that are put down on their backs do not have hair on the back. My daughters hair felt like long razor stubble for a long time. They wear the hair off because they lay on their backs and can not turn over on their on. They will turn their heads from side to side wearing more of the hair off and keeping it from growing. Give her time and it will grow. I would think cutting it off to make it grow would only make it take that much longer to grow out.

Babies rub their little heads on the sheets of the bed. If the baby is not rotated occasionally then a bald spot will occur due to the breaking of the hair. Try placing the child in different positions durring the day while the child is napping. This should help.

My stepson was bald until he was maybe 6, and then his hair was blond and very fine so he still looked bald. Now he's 19 and has dark hair, still very fine, but at least it shows now. I can see your baby does have some hair. Unless your doctor is concerned, I wouldn't worry about it. Also, if your baby sleeps on her back, this would tend to rub the hair off when it's very fine. My son used to have bald places where his head rubbed the mattress but now at 17 he has a beautiful head of hair.

LOL, judging from the picture, and from the way you decribed her hair at birth...she has more hair then my 19 month old! I don't think I have a good picture at the moment that actually shows his hair at all...mostly because what he does have is super blond and hardly shows up in pictures. He's got a line of hair at the nape of his neck that get curly and a large tuft at his crown that has gotten quite long, but not long enough to cover the rest of his bare head. He does have fuzz on most of the other areas but not enough to call hair.
Your daughter sounds perfectly fine. All her energy is just going into growing her body right now and the hair grows more slowly.

Hi my mom used to pressure me to do the same.
However, my daughter was already born with very little hair
I resisisted and did not want to do so. I was afraid that she may not grow her hair. I was partially right, she is 5 now, and she has very little hair still.
I hope your daughter hair grow soon.

I think this is probably normal. Different children have different hair growth patterns. My so was probably about 9 mos old before he had much hair. He had hair around the sides and in the back, but on top at all.I called him my little bald man. But, it quickly grew in and he has a full head of thick hair that curls if it is very long at all. He's 40 now and still has that head of hair, but keeps it very short. So don't worry. Her hair will grow in soon. I've seen lots of girl babies whose hair didn't grow in early.
