Ah, what a glorious day. My five year old daughter begged me to take her training wheels off because "bubby" doesn't have his on. He's 8 now and we took his off at 3 years old. She's doing really well too, a few falls but she's got good balance and enjoys the feeling of being free. So do I. So when did the training wheels come off for you or your kids.

I still remember my son and his first bike,as he refused
training wheels so was balancing and going all over the town by the time he was six. I also even remember when I first learned to balance on my bike and I and my best friend would bikeall over the countryside,I was about eight. I never was chubby as a kid as I biked everywhere.

My daughter got her training wheels taken off last summer. It didn't take her very long to learn how to balance, but if did take some time for her to be ready to try. She was very nervous at first. Now I'm the one who gets nervous when she rides too fast. Thank God for helmets. My son still has his training wheels on. We just finally got him to start using the brakes on his bike instead of running into things (or me) to stop. So, it might be a while before we take his training wheels off b/c he's not really into listening just yet.

My daughter was4 when hers came off. She always wanted to do everything the "big person" way. She took a good slide across the road. Just made her mad and even more determined to do it.
I don't recall how old I was, but I do remember the day. We affectionately call it the day my brother tried to kill me...lol. He is 10 years older than me and was always willing to help me out. Like a good boy he didn't want me on asphalt or cement that I could get hurt on so he took me out to the backyard. A soggy backyard. It did not go well...lol. I got a handlebar to the throat. I did learn to ride, though.lol.

jeezzzzz..Think I was 4 or 5 when my training wheels came off. About the same age for my daughter as well. She was ready for them to come off and your daughter knew that. I remember my own daughter pestering me to take hers off. She fell a few times but it's hard to master balance and peddling at same time on a gravel driveway. She always wears her helmet as well. Mommy wears hers too.

It is an awesome thing to see your child riding his/her bike for the first time without the training wheels! I got so excited when my 5 year old son did that, it was just a month ago that he did. In fact it was on Mothers Day that he decided to try and ride his bike without his training wheels. He is so proud of himself, he rides that bike now every chance he gets and he seems to be getting faster on it too! lol
