my children are aged 7 & 5 and they are always saying soem thing or the other, most of the time just to keep my atetnion they ask some non relevant queston to me, i still answer them, though absent mindedly, but when they are talking some thing serious like thier activity at the school or about their friends or their needs i give them full attention

I always try to listen when my kids are speaking b/c I want them to know that I think what they are saying is important and they are important to me. Sometimes their blabbering is just that-blabbering nonsense, but I still try to give it all the attention I can and not make them feel like I don't care. I do care. I like what they have to say. Sometimes I think, why am I wasting my time. But then another thought occurs to me: if I don't listen to them now, will they come to talk to me later, when they're older? So I perk up and give them my full attention--no matter what their topic of discussion is.

Hey I listen to my children all the the time. I admit sometimes they can get on my nerves, but sons are 2 years old and I think to myself the more that speak to me the more helpful it is in the long run.
