This is for the ladies, the mom's or those in the medical know. My daughter hasnt had a period for the last 6 months, she went to the dr after 5 months and was put on harmone pills, she spotted for a day and that was it. She called the dr as instructed after 2 weeks to let him know and went back for a sonogram, both inside and out, all looked fine, the dr asked her if she had been experiencing any spells of being real hot, she says omg, I have been telling everyone I'm having hot flashes for the last 6 months and they think I'm crazy. She has to now go for more tests to find out if she is going thru menapause, omg, she is freaked called saying mom I may go thru menapause before you, does this mean I cant have kids. She is not doing well, so any words of wisdom, encouragement that I may share with her would be greatly appreciated. I have told her not to worry untill she knows all the facts, but that is not how she is. any help would be appreciated, thank you

We call amenorrhea the absence of menses for six months;it is impossible to be menopause at such early age.The youngest usually is 33.You can read Comprehensive gynecology, our textbook,if you want.what we do is give progestin for 10 days like Provera 10 mg once daily for tendays then wait for the menses to occur. Then on the first day of the menses, we start oral contraceptive pill to regulate menstrual cycle. This is granting that ultrasound result is normal. The hot flush is due to the Progestin pill that the doctor may have given her.

Her ultrasound was normal, she took the progestin and finally last week she started, it was a while after she was done w/ the pills, actually the day she was schedualed to go back to the dr for more tests, she and i were both so relieved. Thank you for you imput, i had told her of this and that alone relieved her. I believe alot of it was due to stress, she had just moved out of state and that was the first time we were not w/in an hour distance of eachother, that and many other stress factors I believe were the cause but she is to go back to the dr when she stops now for other tests, not sure what.
thank you :)

I had almost the exact same problems that your daughter had when I was about her age. It lasted about three or four years and then went back to normal. I would often not have a period for 6 months at a time, then I would have one or two very light ones. At that time, I had lost a lot of weight, was exercising a lot, and was under a lot of stress from college and work, so I am positive that my hormones were very unbalanced. I think that's what's going on with your daughter, she probably has some kind of hormonal imbalance, perhaps with her thyroid or adrenal glands. Once she gets that under control, she may go back to having periods.

I'm having thyroid problems that my doctor thinks are causing my periods to miss for months at a time. Do you know if her doctor has tested for that?
