My family has always wrapped gifts. My husband's family doesn't. We're lucky if they come in a paper sack. What do you think?

Ultimately, I guess it's the thought that counts, but it wouldn't seem like Christmas to me without the wrapping paper.

That's the way I feel. Sometimes I also feel like if they really cared about us they'd take the time to wrap the gift.

I think so too. When I give a gift I always hope to convey that I have made an effort to find a good gift and cared enough to wrap it. Otherwise, why bother.

Our family always wraps our gifts as well. I just love to buy wrapping paper and pretty bows and wrap packages fancy. There's nothing like looking at a package and wondering what could be in there. I love the element of surprise.

I've never heard of anyone not wrapping a present, they could at least put it in one of those gift bags for you if they don't like to wrap.

Yes, I like to wrap my gifts. It is fun to watch the grandkids tear off the paper to see what is inside. It doesn't matter how much the gift cost, it is the fun of opening something unknown.

That's true. So many times the kids get excited about ripping the gifts open better than they like the gifts themselves. And how often have you seen a little one play with the paper and bow and leave the gift lying on the floor?

I always wrap my presents because it is fun to open a package no matter what age you are. I buy new paper every year too so I always have 20 different kinds to choose from. I not only wrap all the presents for my husband, 3 children, and extended family, I also do all the shopping and wrapping for my elderly father. I easily wrap 100 presents each christmas! My husband is not allowed to wrap anymore because he is too picky about making the pattern match up. HAHA

One of the greatest joys I've ever had were the Christmas' when we attended a church that would go out into the community each year and wrap gifts for people for free. I remember their amazement that anyone would do this for them without any strings attached and their joy when they saw the wrapped gift. It was always funny, too, the look of relief men would get that they weren't going to have to wrap their gifts.

Yes, I love to wrap, although I'm not very good at it, my boyfriend however is an excellent gift wrapper and he's helped me become better at it!! It's funny because you wouldn't think a man would be good at something like that, but he is. There are no bumps, jagged edges, nothing like that, his wrapping always turns out so good. Very impressive...I don't think there is any fun in receiving a non wrapped gift. It takes away the effect. That's too bad they do that.......

Your situation is just the opposite of ours. I wrap most of the gifts because my husband can't quite get the hang of it. Of course, when our church used to sponsor free gift wrapping at the mall, he was always willing to pitch in. While wrapping a lady's gift one evening using much more energy and good will than skill, he jokingly offered to give her gift wrapping lessons. She hurried muttered, 'No thanks' and with her head down she scurried away taking her half-wrapped gift.

I prefer using Gift Bags if I can anymore for purchases. It is a lot less time consuming. Most of the people I know anymore do it this way also if they can.

That's just awful half the fun of getting gifts is opening them. you should explain this to them, and also that shows that they don't want to take the time to be nice. my hubby's family does ther christmas shopping all together and see their gifts before they're even wrapped and I think that is wrong also, but everyone has there own way of doing things; maybe his family was never able to afford wrapping paper and they got used to giving gifts as is.

Honestly, it depends on how much time I have. I TRY to wrap all my gifts, but in the end what counts is letting the person know I care about them. For the Holidays, I always set two days aside just to wrap and usually end up using 2 hours of those two days from 10pm-midnight and then another 4 hours in the am that I had not planned. :-)

I wrap all my presents...here and there I might put one in a gift bag (never a paper sack). Even when I put them in a gift bag, I tend to wrap what I can before putting it in the gift bag. I think its more a surprise and makes the other feel good if you take the time to wrap it.

I wrap them and place them under the tree as they are purchased and wrapped. Part of the fun is guessing what lies beneath the paper!

Some of the presents I wrapped myself, though I am a terrible wrapper and need wrapping lessons. LOL At least I tried, right? :-) If I order online, then I let them do the wrapping of the gifts.

Wow! My family always wrapped their gifts...even the BIG gifts that would take a whole roll or maybe 2 *lol* It just wouldn't be Christmas without gifts being wrapped. But I guess it is the thought that counts..thats just what I am used to I guess.

I think it's really just pomp and circumstance, although I DO wrap my gifts, even if I only wrap it in colored gift tissue with a bow stuck on it. (I'm weird, I think it looks pretty that way) Sometimes, if it's been crunch time, then my immediate family will get theirs just handed to them, but they're not fussy, either. To receive gifts, it doesn't matter to me, in fact, sometimes it just prolongs my embarrassment of receiving a gift. Receiving has never been one of my stronger points.
