Is the price of gas preventing you from taking as many trips or vacations?

I know that with the price of gas around and above $4 a gallon, it has affected our families decision on where to go and how far to drive to our family vacations this year. We are going closer to home and taking more local day and weekend trips. Gas for regular gas is from $4.07 to $4.24 here - It costs so much to fill up the gas tank now that it is leaving less money for other things, including vacations. How are the gas prices affecting your vacation plans?

Not yet.....I took the biggest part of my vacation a couple of weeks ago and had bought my airline ticket back in March. It won't affect my vacation.....I have worked to hard for that but I definately find myself cutting back on other things! Like not having the tv on when I am not downstairs as I heard that our utilities are supposed to raise by 20% too!

Yes, I heard that heating costs (like propane and oil) are going to be super high in the winter time. It was expensive to heat the house this year - I hate to think about the cost next winter.

I frequently travel between Pennsylvania and Maryland. Half a year ago, a plane ticket would have been around fifty dollars, now its more than doubled: my last flight was nearly $110. i guess i'll be making fewer trips then...

That's terrible! With less people being able to afford flights, the cost will probably rise to keep the companies in business. It's a bad cycle we are in.

The gas price certainly is having a huge impact on my travel plans, going to work, going shopping, going on vacation. I was planning to drive up to a friends place over the weekend, and I have cancelled that. To go to work, I am taking the bus these days.

I do not live where public transportation is an option, so have to drive to work or anywhere. I live out in the country. I hope the bus schedule is convenient for you! That can really add some time to your day if you have to catch at awkward times.

Yes the high price of gas is really affecting my vacation plans. I really was wanting to travel alot. But I live on social security disability, so money really is tight for me. I will take a trip to see my mother and the rest of my family back home with my sister, it is 1,000 miles away, We have not been able to go home foe 2 years, hard to tell when we will ever get back there again, gas is so high.I want to go see my sister but she lives 5 hours away.We do go to the amusement / water park every other week end it is about 45 minutes away, we have season passes there.

I understand - travel to see family is hard for us too. My husband's family lives about 190 miles from us -- for us to go now and see them costs us from $75 to $80 dollars just in gas - then you have tolls to deal with too. It is sad how the cost of gas has affected the country. Thanks for leaving a comment.

Yes, tremendously! Instead of going far we just content ourselves to the nearby resort and perhaps will be missing the beautiful far places we frequently visit for long till the gas price goes down again. But will it ever go down again?

I don't know, with people paying what they want now, do you think the companies will ever let the cost go way back down? I fear not.

Gas is expensive, and the people who sell it are the devil. Everyone will be suffering soon, because of how expensive it is, and the price will keep rising, increasing the injury.

Yes, it is hard on so many people. There are so many that hardly have enough money for the necessities and now to have to spend so much on gas to get to work, the store, etc. Thanks for your comment.

oh yes... i try my best to save the fuel by travelling less... we only go to places which is near to our house to do shopping or groceries... we also cut down on our travelling quite a bit as the gas price here has hit $1.70 per litre for unleaded premium and i fill my car with the premium which cost $0.10 more per litre... so i spend about $80 to $90 per week just for gas... it is ridiculous... but we can't really do anything about it... take care and have a nice day...

The prices have shot up so high ~ we went on summer vacation last year and while the cost was up it was no where as high as it is now. If I only go to work and home with an errand on the way I spend about $50 a week -- I have to drive about 22 miles to work one way. This is nuts! You too have a nice day.

hi ShadyGrove , well i think that in our country we use oil more than gas and it has also skyrocketed in the past few months and the increase is as steep as 18% and due to that reason all are now on a saving spree. so that definitely has a cut down on the vacations. it is not only the vacations but also on the drives that we go. anyways have a good day.

Hi! Yes, we are trying to combine trips now to and plan out when we will go here or there. After work I may run a few errands before going home to save on my other family members having to run out needlessly. Have a good week!

Yes. Gas is outragious. My family and I have been trying over the years to make or buy things to have to do around the home instead of travelling to some place for some enjoyments. We try to have fun here since gas is so high. We live in the country and everything is very far away from us anyway.

It is harder when you live in the country, but we try and go to local free events and that helps too. Our kids are now 12 and 14 and we seem to be the house their friends come to - so we always have some activity going on. Thanks for commenting.

To be honest we never took trips or vacations to begin hardly at all. I guess people are becoming more like us. I guess you could say things reached a boiling point because they passed laws to where you have to pay back your bankrupsey instead of just ruining your credit and not paying it back. Than came the foreclosures. Now people are having to learn to spend their money more wisely. I'm sure it will be a good thing later on after the economy gets better. Companies and people were definitly losing money because these rules were not corrected to begin with probably resulting in the higer prices were seeing right now. Once things start to balance out the right way things should be good.

Yes, we can all hope that things will get better for everyone. There are so many negative issues going on right now.

Vacation...Did you say vacation? I don't even have the money to go to work...the grocery store...or even really leave my house. What is this world coming to? It is rediculous!!!

I hope you are able to have a little relaxing time or fun time with your family or friends. We all need some of that time with all the stress of the world. I agree about things getting out of hand!
