100 Mbps is the LAN speed, not the internet speed. The maximum speed possible now for household is I THINK roughly 5 mbps.

The speed you are experiencing is very fast. May i know how you calculated that speed. Do you used a program or website like "speedtest.net". Or you measured it by downloading a file?

I've got adsl (upgraded by the company i got it from, i think, cause i reguraly got speeds that adsl theoreticaly can't get).
my down is around 1400 kb/s and my up is around 370 kb/s .
I know i can be pretty happy about this, thinking about how much i pay for it in comparison with other people at other providers in my country.
But i'm used to a more regular and faster connection thanks to my university. I'm spoiled, you could say :) .

100 mbps that you read is not the internet speed. It is the LAN (Local Area Network) speed. I am using 4 mbps broadband internet. U can check your internet speed by calling your ISP (Internet Service Provider).

At my university they got a lan connection directly on to the internet. When you lived at a studenthome of this university, it was almost impossible to get to know the real speed of your internet connection. The only thing you could find was the 100 mbps from the lan connection.
The highest speed i ever got was almost 5 mb/s , but i surely don't know if that would be the limit of the internet connection or the limit of the uploadspeed from the server.

It is correct. There is no problem with your service provider. 256 kbps means 256kilobits per second. It is not kilobytes. (8 kilobits = 1 kilobyte). So 256 kilobits is 256/8 = 32 kilobytes. So if you get 30-40 kilobytes ps it is actually 240-320 kbps. It means you have a good connection. If you are still confused .....plz ask me

My broadband internet connection speed is 256kbps. I think 2 Mbps is the highest speed available.

There are 3 type of speed, the speed your lan can support, your ISP subscription speed or your plan speed and your effective speed or your actual speed which vary on the time of the day. My lan speed is 10Mbps, my plan speed is 384kbps and my effective speed is around 30kbps.
